      Except it would have been 100% unnecessary if he a) had a compatible computer or 2) ran the compatibility tool which would have said you have underpowered USB ports. We all had the same problems with both Developer Rifts, thats why they made the system checking tool for the CV1. But I don't think he has anything to be embarassed about either, as all these things everyone has to learn once! (AND this video likely helped countless others) _It just kind of irked me when he blamed THEM and the DEVICE3, when he didn't seem to check his computers compatibility beforehand. 100% Not the Rifts problem, evidenced by the fact he got it working.

    I used to love my Oculus Rift S, then they had an update 8 months ago and me and all my friends got black screens, haven't been able to play since and oculus support really didn't help. I'm not even gonna bother with a quest or quest 2, I'm going straight to the Valve Index now lol.

    • @TheMadface80

      I've heard about that, and I was scared that I had that problem at first. My budget wasn't great, so I went with the Oculus Rift S. But if you can get a Valve Index, then that's definitely the best choice.
      The Oculus would be so much better if they actually fixed the software, but the software sucks so much!

    I bought a rift S and had a small tracking problem where it would jitter constantly when I turned. Video recording was fine. It was just tracking, but it could track my hands perfectly. Eventually found out it was that the device is a power hog, and the USB port I was using wasn't supplying enough power. This is why a powered USB 3.0 hub is suggested. The one closest to the board and power supply worked perfectly for me though, apparently they are daisy chained power wise and experience power drop the further out you go? I don't know. It seems weird that they tried to power so much off of usb 3 alone. Nobody would have complained if a third power cable came out at the end for a wall plugin. God knows your computer must be near one.

    So, my Dad absolutely loves rally sims and for years he's been wanting to try a VR experience but has never had the chance/money. I recently started making a fair bit of money and I had some savings so I thought, fuck it, I'll just treat him to a Rift S. His PC just about fits into the "VR ready" category so I thought I'd just send it and see what happens.
    Utter disappointment ensued, the same trawling through the exact forum posts and "solutions" as you did and still no luck.
    Finally giving in about 6 hours of troubleshooting later I thought hey I'll watch one more video...
    It was your video, and boy did it make me laugh and give me a slither of hope. I've ordered the exact same PCIe USB card as you got here and I'm hoping it works tomorrow.
    I'll report back if it's successful and thank you once again!
    Thank you dude, smashing video and really cheered me up after all the BS.
    Hope you enjoy your VR times, you deserve it!
    P.s. a small suggestion would be to include a more "how to fix" title to this video so it reaches those in need a little faster. But hey... it might not even be the miracle solution but helps people quickly explore a perhaps common fix.

I know everyone cant get their hands on expensive things. There's always a solution its just if you're willing to look for it and if you're willing to potentially invest in a new little higher tier GPU or CPU. UPDATE: I finally made it work! Just power off your pc then unplug the oculus. Then power on the pc and open the oculus app to the set up page and you can remove your oculus or keep it but I suggest removing it and adding it back. Then plug in the usb to a different 3.0 and if you don’t have one then just try the same port again. Once you reconnect it, you are good to go. When you are finished with your oculus unplug the usb and then when you are ready to play plug it back in where you had it before

    So, I have had the Rift S for about half a year now or like 6 - 8 month and they have been fun when it has been working but I had issues with the set up. First I had trouble making a oculus account, then i had the sensores issue wich you also had. After I had managed to get past those two problems I did not face as many problems for a while. But the I got tracking issues with my right hand, where it would stop tracking when moving it fast and move to a randomspot in-game where my hand definetively was not. I fixed it by just taking the battery out and put it back in. And that was the only issue i would encounter until Yesterday. Yesterday first the sound stopped working. and I know it was the headset and not the game because as soon as I switch to a diferent out put for my audio it works fine. But like 1 minute after the audio was gone, my headsets tracking (Like the stuff responsible for how my head moves) moved as if I was moving my head when i was standing compleatly still. And this makes the games unplayable. I have tried restarting the PC, setting up the headset again (Like the first time) And the thing is I have changed nothing since last time it worked fine. The only diferance is that I have a new keyboard. But I still use the same USB 3 port and the same Display Port as before for the headset.

  • @Guds777
    @Guds777 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I had, and still have this USB problem, i even bought Rift S because it only need 1 USB 3.0 port. And i have Z590, with nothing but USB 3.2, RTX 2080, I7-1170k, 32GB of RAM and 500Gb + 1Tb NVMe drives, and i have USB problem. I know this is not my hardware because i can play Crysis on max settings and STAR WARS Battlefront II with out any problems. Also everything except Oculus works perfectly on my PC. I think that Oculus is phasing out Rift and Rift S and spending all their resources on the Quest, and the Rift simply can't cope with newer machinery. Just try to charge your Phone or a tablet with your USB port and see if it can charge it with out problems. That test will tell you if it is performing right. Also i bought a powered USB 3.0 and it did help somewhat after i did move it from PCIe 1x slot into PCIe 16x slot...

    I related to this video and great job on editing! This is my situation:
    Just got an oculus rift s after my rift stopped working and support couldn't help. From the first day on I've had to plug in both wires, unplug them, and plug them back into different ports every time I want to use it. Recently it's decided to crash either my oculus or my whole computer in games. I consult some friends and bought a new USB 3 card, it didn't fit. I now have to buy a new computer and the rift s has started giving me a black screen when I put on the headset.

    Dude I'm literally dying physically at this point, but my problem started completely different all the checks are green and "working", but the pass-through and tracking doesn't work at all!!! Did exactly the same shit like you, but the support still suggests the same shit for the 12th time and they have like 5 logs from me... I'm tired, really really tired. But one thing I didn't do was change the driver I'll try that tomorrow and if that doesn't work I'll get a pcie card and after that, I will just return this shit or I'll break it

  • @yump8179
    @yump8179 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I couldn’t use my rift s for multiple months because the controllers didn’t give any output and they wouldn’t track. I only just fixed this today. I hate that lizard man.

    I know its old but let me tell you, the oculus quest makes far more headaches, because your GPU needs to compress and decompress the image and press it through an usb type c cable, and that requires much more gpu power.

    The hardware for oculus is good but the Oculus app is just crappy. I had a warping thing and I thought it was the cpu or cable. Nope it was a synchronous space warp setting that you can't disable. So I am just using virtual desktop. I had a kiwi link cable and that was good, it's just oculus software unfortunately

  • @WoodysAR

    I assume you ran the COMPATIBILITY TOOL? That should have told you if you had underpowered ports... We have all known this since CV1. This is not a prboem with the headset... There is nothing to fix except for people to have modern computers... They assumed people would use the compatibility tool... They DID WARN YOU by supplying a compatibility checking tool.. friend.

    • @TheMadface80
      @TheMadface80  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The compatibility tool hasn't been supported since 2019, and Oculus no longer offers a download link to it officially. The only way to get it is through shady websites, which I just did. When I got it, it still says all my USB aren't compatible even though it works well now. And the Oculus representative never once mentioned the tool, which would've been an obvious thing to talk about. So no, they didn't warn me until I was like 5 days into the support emails.

    just bought my bf the Rift S and tried to install the oculus app last night, i ran into the "repair software" loop where no matter how many times you restart pc or uninstall the software it wouldn't repair.. I had to go through my files and delete all oculus files & logs, run a cleaning software, then restart pc and try installing again. The app is currently installing right now, so we'll see if this shit actually works 😫

    We moved back home last Saturday, 6th March 2021, so about 2 months later.
    The rift s worked perfectly at the temporary property but since coming home it's giving me a display port error.

    I did get Rift S Today, cost me 300€. So... I really have about top-performance computer... Ok, might have couple of years old CPU Ryzen 2700x but otherwise... Ok AMD x5700 8GB card... But really... MSI MPG X570 Gaming Edge WIFI motherboard, AMD Ryzen 2700x 8 cores / 16 Threads, 64Gb DDR4 3200Mhz mem, AMD RX5700 8GB, 2x 1 TB M.2, Logitech G15 keyboard, Naga TRINITY Mouse, Bluecloud W104 4K Web Camera, Oculus Rift S VR headset... And couple of monitors... You think that this setup is just plug&play with Rift S... Ok... I had no problems with USB 3 because I have USB 3.2 so it is green... I have plenty of display ports on my card but the Oculus DisplayPort thing just rolls and rolls in setup and don't find a port... Yea, I have update AMD drivers, change ports, and so on... Dada... So I understand if some older hardware has problems :)

    so for Christmas 2020 I got the Oculus Rift S and then I forgot I didn't have a HDMI port or display port thingy so I had to buy a new graphics card , wait like 4 days or 5 days for it to arrive, then it took another day actually inserting the graphics card , although then VR was working perfectly, no issues until a few days later when the VR headset wouldn't connect, so now a few days of just pain I finally came to the conclusion and brought something that had a USB 3.0 , Although when the headset was working perfectly I had a USB 3.0 so here I am waiting for the t h I n g to arrive tomorrow. I am very tired, I want to play hotdogs horseshoes and hand grenades, and plus a few days ago when I had gotten medal of honour above and beyond, so I loaded Steam VR and then that's when the VR headset wouldn't connect. the USB 3.0 thing is arriving tomorrow, please jersey post/royal mail, I just want to play medal of honour VR.

    My Ouclus Rift S keeps stuttering anywhere I play. Even in the Oculus home and Valve home I keep having this extrushiating lag effect and seeing the black lines whenever I look around. It is so hard to play a game with so much intense stutter and render difficulties. I tried everything myself and others on the internet could think of. Even going into the Oculus debug tool and Nvidea Geforce settings the games still lag! I just cannot find a way to stop it and my headset just turned a year old!
