    Great video. Im finishing school so around march/may i was applying to jobs and i think a mistake i made was using a generic resume template found on design sites. I thought this would be cooler but i got barely any replies.
    When i sobered up my resume and structured content in a very similar way to how u two described it, it made a huge impact and contributed greatly to the job i just got!

      I used a resume template I found online, and then I modified it to fit better to the content they described in the video. It got quite nice feedback. So I guess using template is fine, but you have to make sure your content is good.

    I do a lot of freelance work and have been looking to get back into the office environment. Matthew, I would love to see more content from you. Be it art direction, tools, projects. I really like how you use rigged 3D models for storyboarding, visualizing concepts. On storyboarding, do you guys use a particular software or a template? What do you recommend.

    • @rgt2358
      @rgt2358 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matthew Encina that's great, love the 'roses are dead' series.. screenshot-wallpaper-ed..thanks:)
      Yeah.. I've also been using a custom template that I made in photoshop for storyboarding, it's has been fine, just that it's a bit labor-intensive when you have to change or add frames, then I need to move each and every frame with the copy after it. It can be a nightmare. Haha. Wanted something more efficient.

    So what I'm looking for in these resume videos that I'm not hearing is how to word the resume better. for the jobs. I find that my portfolio is strong and my resume is weak because of verbiage. The Structure of how to describe the job task. Especially because it's not the same kinda work each week. I have trouble articling and describing
    what I've done for the job

    I know this is already written down in the chapters section of TH-cam, but I am typing this out for myself here, maybe it helps someone,
    use it or lose it.
    STEP 01 @0:20 HAVE YOUR MOST RECENT WORK FIRST [reverse chronological order]
    STEP 02 @0:28 BE CONSISTENT
    STEP 03 @1:32 ADD AWARDS RECOGNITION
    STEP 04 @2:52 DO'S AND DONTS
    STEP 05 @3:40 DON'T BE OVERLY CREATIVE (ADDING TOO MANY DINGBATS AND INFOGRAPHICS) DON'T RATE SKILLS:
    - e.g. Don't do this rating thing: Photoshop- - - - - 90% (who's to say you have 90% knowledge of PS?)
    STEP 06 @4:04 THE MAIN OBJECTIVE OF YOUR RESUME IS:
    01: SIMPLE "KEEP IT SIMPLE"
    02: KEEP IT CONSISTENT
    03: LEGIBLE (MAKE SURE IT'S LEGIBLE)

    Hi guys, love your video. I was wondering in the UK, companies often ask for a cover letter. I always struggle for content, how to sound interested/passionate about the company without being cheesy?

    • @Disco0x
      @Disco0x 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      M with cover letters you can get creative.
      1. You can address the letter formally to their company showing you've taken the time to understand where they are located
      2. You can research the companies on their about page on their website and tailor your word choice to their ethos
      3. You give information about yourself, not the company, show how you as a person are interested in the work the company does on a day to day basis. How close are you to the source? Are you really a good fit?
      4. Actually sign the letter. Take the time to put the personal touch on it. This can even be done digitally with the same signature.
      5. Cover letter can stylistically match your resume in terms of typography, color, logos, ect. Created a whole crafted experience.

    I have a question.
    Should I design my own layout and produce a “designed resume “? As opposed to the standard general practice of a “Microsoft office template quote.
    So here’s my thing I’ve graduated school over a year ago. I’ve had three job offers but nobody responded to me after the job offer I was effectively ghosted. Since then I have started working with resume writers recruiters another job coaches. They all tell me to not use a design resume and just stick with the standard general Microsoft office template style of resume. Because when you start changing the layout it will trip up the applicant tracking software.

    What if I don't have enough fitting projects to show to my potential employer? I'm a product design graduate and I just included my projects that I've done during my study, which are all from different product design fields like sports gear, furniture, or medical equipment.
    Should I leave in all of them, even if they're not actually "relevant" ?
    Can I include projects with my own design brief, that weren't supervised by anyone?

    • @thefutur
      @thefutur  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Pull together the most relevant, even if they are from different industries. You can think of skills and responsibilities that carry over can apply.

      It probably means too many effects tricks like bright colours and custom order of things it doesn't look like resume from a far away glance text hierarchy turns off to see it. so keeping it clean and simple

    if a person makes a cv a little too "colourful" it doesn't necessary mean that they don't do the job right. you say that a cv must be consistent and simple. what if someone who doesn't have good skills in graphic programmes, does a simple design just because they do not have experience? I think that it is ridiculous how most employers think. somebody should test all those employers to see how bad they are and have too many unreal expectations

    Don't show proficiency or skills, really? Personally, when reviewing a resume that has this, it gives me an insight on how confident the applicant is with "said" environment/code. You don't take it literal, but rather as a gauge on how confident they are w/"said" skill. I'll actually base some of my interview questions on how they rate themselves - I've called a lot of BS on applicants... so don't lie people - be honest.
