  • Having visited the brick city of Ferrara a while ago, it took time to come up with an homonymous pavana and a galliarda.
These were published in "Premiere Livre de Danseries" by Pierre Phalèse in Louvain, Brabant in 1571.
It is unclear whether Phalèse was the author, composer or just publisher.
Interestingly, there is another pavane, La Venissienne, published by Claude Gervaise 20 years earlier, which sounds almost identical to the Ferrareze.
Of course, I own many more photos from Venice to illustrate the soundtrack... but alas: La Venissienne doesn't have a galliard.
Ferrareze DOES have its galliard: don't miss it. It's much shorter.
    The instruments I used:
    soprano recorder: Mollenhauer 1003d
    alto recorder: Mollenhauer Waldorf 19242
    tenor recorder: Jupiter (DDR)
    bass recorder: Yamaha YRB 302-BII
    guitar: Fender CD60-S
    bass guitar: Ibanez AEB10-BK1202
    bongos: PP
