I think they have a treaty with America, Australia has a very long coastline but a very small population, so their military particularly their navy is small to patrol their coastline, so they usually aligned with the nation with the biggest navy, it was the British empire first, now it's America, every war, Americans get involved, aussies will join them, again both nations could refuse but they feared the US government actions, I remember Bush administration was threatening every country back then 😅
I was really hoping the release of this report would have been akin to the release of the final Harry Potter book, i.e. people queueing up overnight in order to be the first to get their hands on a copy, with some even going as far as to dress up as key figures in the Iraq war.
