Because Tony Blair did not have to join America in their fight in Iraq. The united states felt that they were already at war due to 9/11. Tony Blair wanted to involve himself and his country in to a war which had nothing do with him. Which costs the lives of our British troops which then created terrorist attacks in our UK home land.

I honestly don't think that is what he has suggested as such; rather, he has always said that the intelligence reports he received at the time led him to believe there was at least a very good chance that Saddam posed an existential threat to the UK, due to his apparent weapons capabilities and links with Al Qaida (both of which we now know to have been exaggerated or non-existent) and that to have not responded to this perceived threat would have been a dereliction of duty. One may argue about the manner of the response, but that has always been my understanding of his defence.

    • @Tommy2shoe811
      @Tommy2shoe811 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Court Reporter the intelligence forces are the main reason the whole thing went bad. Both country’s intelligence agencies were at fault for most of the errors that Bush and Blair are now roasted for and I can almost guarantee they both blame the whole screw up on them. Also another thing that’s almost never mentioned is the fact the whole Iraq war had been brewing long before 9/11 (even before 98 when he kicked out the UN overseers) and the Afghanistan war. The decision was made easier by 9/11 and the new terrorist threat bc Saddam was a psychopath and hated both the US & UK and was very likely to give/sell WMDs to those terrorists to get revenge for Desert Storm and all the interference and sanctions we gave him.
The one gripe the UK citizens do have that I agree with is how under equipped the UK forces were and how it made their life much more difficult than it needed to be over there. They had nowhere near the resources the US forces had even down to the kit they wore I was shocked at how much more we had than them. There were even countries that had a fraction of their number that were better equipped (Danes come to mind). Now that I agree is completely inexcusable.

Tony Blair's denial of lying to the House of Commons regarding the Iraq invasion is itself a falsehood. Throughout his addresses to Parliament, Blair consistently presented information and details with a feigned certainty, lending an illusion of truth where none existed. His words were meticulously crafted to sway support, yet concealed the ambiguity inherent in his claims. His admission of "critical mission errors" is carefully couched in collective terms, deflecting personal accountability for decisions that led to disastrous outcomes. The press conference he convened serves as a calculated ploy, a preemptive strike against the Chilcot report, aimed at diluting its findings and preempting potential legal repercussions for war crimes and deception to the House of Commons. Moreover, when answering the journalist's question: "look me in the eyes...", in Blair's response he markedly increased his blink rate 16 times more than the previous 5 minutes, a subconscious acknowledgement of falsehood, rendering his denial self evident, he knew what he was doing period.

The most arrogant and dishonest politician Britain has ever had to suffer. I cannot grasp how is still walking free, or why he is not far too embarrassed to appear in public. I conclude he is not right in the head. It is unsurprising that he's next in line for leading the WEF. He has all the right qualifications.

Twisted logic. Blair basically acknowledges today that the invasion was a disaster but refuses to say the invasion was wrong. He says the decision to invade was good and sound but acknowledges the consequences were unforeseen and tragic. This disconnect in his reasoning is quite frankly ludicrous. He simply isn't accepting responsibility for the consequences of his actions. Pathetic. The saddest political legacy for him.

There is no agony of broken limbs, bullet through the heart or families
torn apart in Iraq - millions and in the UK who bore the brunt of this
ill fated adventure. There were more bombs even more devastating that
those dropped in Vietnam. Have they not learned? The only agony he now
faces is the ill gotten wealth that he has accumulated that could be
subject to sequestration. There is no agony in his face, only fear that
his worst nightmares are about to begin.

Not true. He is a human being who has to live with a controversial decision that he made that led to millions of deaths. His own wealth and freedom is not at risk at all, only his conscience and reputation. People need to stop talking about politicians as if they are different to every other person on the planet. It's not fair, and even more importantly, not true.

I think he made a terrible mistake ‘ he’s own vanity got the better of him “
I’ll never forget Blair and Bush walking in that garden together ‘ poor old Tony couldn’t believe he was rubbing shoulders with the most powerful man on Earth 🌍. He just sold he’s soul on that day, for a pocket full of gold ‘ so look at him now “
An old greying man ‘ roaming the planet giving speeches to rich fools like himself.

Academically speaking, removing Saddam Hussein was probably justified, but the practical handling in the aftermath was appalling. Unleashed millennia-old tribal, religious divides... and that's what killed so many, not Western forces per se. The religious lunatics who mutilated Iraq must also take some responsibility.

Nuclear program did not exist, according to Collin Powell 24th February 2001 said in Cairo, Eygpt. "We had a good discussion, the Foreign Minister and I and the President and I, had a good discussion about the nature of the sanctions -- the fact that the sanctions exist -- not for the purpose of hurting the Iraqi people, but for the purpose of keeping in check Saddam Hussein's ambitions toward developing weapons of mass destruction. We should constantly be reviewing our policies, constantly be looking at those sanctions to make sure that they are directed toward that purpose. That purpose is every bit as important now as it was ten years ago when we began it. And frankly they have worked. He has not developed any significant capability with respect to weapons of mass destruction. He is unable to project conventional power against his neighbors. So in effect, our policies have strengthened the security of the neighbors of Iraq...
