    The risk comes from single loading without the stripper clip. If the round is too far back, it will push the bolt capture pin down releasing the bolt on your thumb. The stripper clip keeps the rounds forward and away from the bolt capture pin.

    I have one of these. you should always have the safety on when reloading cause when a round is in the magazine the dust cover just has to slide 1/8" forward for you to lose a finger. the bolt realease is like a hair point trigger you just have to shake the gun or tap it against a table for the bolt to come crashing forward. That's the best feature of this gun though is how fast you can reload it.

    Putting the rifle on SAFE guarantees the bolt won’t drop whether the mag is in or out the rifle. A 7 or 8mm forged steel bar keeps it locked to the inside the dust cover. Encourage people to keep their weapon on safe when not firing.

    Really nice and initiated video! I did my basic military service (conscripts) in Sweden back in 1980 as a squad leader for a Anti tank squad, we used a 90mm anti tank gun, mounted on a terrain vehicle. This anti tank gun used a converted Ljungman AG42 as a tracer range finding gun for the main 90mm gun.
    We were very well drilled in handling the guns, but in the beginning it did happen some mistakes, not applying the safety (we always changed the magazine, not reloading with strips).

      If you capture the bolt in the dust cover by pushing forward before loading, best to set the safety as the bolt will close if you bump it back after the first round is in. I don't set the safety either, but I do not push forward on the dust cover until after I finished loading. Then push forward to capture the bolt, releasing the capture pin. Then pull back to close the bolt. Love the Hakim. Make sure your gas valve is properly set to your ammo to avoid damage to your rifle. This feature is only on the Hakims and Rasheeds.

    Milsurp World, I have one of these AG42Bs and its weird. I'll load the magazine full with PPU made 6.5x55 mm swede. It'll fire the first two rounds and then fail to chamber so I have to recharge it... but the remaining rounds chamber and fire fine. This happens every single time. Have you had an issue like that? 2 rounds fire, then a failure to feed, then you rack it, and then the rest fire and feed fine. Always after the 2nd round.

    • @Bird76Mojo76
      @Bird76Mojo76 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It has to do with the burn rate of the powder. This rifle cannot have slow burning powders used. Several people seem to agree that Privi ammo is ok, but Norma or Federal Fusion may blow up in the rifle, possibly firing out of battery. Also, any ammo originally designed for a bolt action rifle such as the Mauser should NOT be used in this rifle, as they used the slower burning powder to get the maximum velocity out of a bolt action rifle. I reviewed the info again last night after posting my comment. Handloaders all seem to agree..

    Thanks for clearing this up. I too have gotten tired of hearing people regurgitate the same information they heard from someone else when they have never even handled the gun. I've never handled a Ljungman to get to know its mechanics. I did get to handle a Hakim but it had the action zip-tied and magazine removed.
    I was under the impression that if the bolt cycles on an empty magazine, the magazine follower would catch the bolt. Thus, if you attempted to press rounds into the magazine straight away, it would send the bolt home and crush your thumb. Thus, the proper reloading procedure is to first put the gun on safe and push the dust cover forward to catch the bolt. I don't know if this applies to only the Hakim or both the Hakim and the Ljungman. Do you know if the Hakim has the same bolt catch as the Ljungman?
    Also, I rewatched TFB TV''s run-and-gun, and his rifle wasn't locking back on the last round. Missing the bolt catch perhaps?

    I agree very much in what you said about this military rifle. Like I was 32 years ago I was an Infantry Basic Recruit. The Drill Sergeants who are very well versed in the weapons system will take every recruit step by step before going to the firing range. In my case was the M16A1 rifle. Every military in the world will teach its recruits everything about their issued rifles either by retraining or giving boots to their asses. Specific issue weapons or all, soldiers will be taught how to use them. By training automatic responses will kick in unless human stupidity causes it.

And once you load the first 5 rd clip the hold open is disabled while your loading the second 5 rd clip. So please, use the safety when loading. But if you don't, at least get yourself mangling your finger on video so we can all enjoy your suffering.

  • @stevenwg2360
    @stevenwg2360 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The problem is that if you load it with a stripper clip but forget to flip the safety on, it can eat your thumb.
    Edit - I checked, and this only happens if the bolt carrier group is being retained by the receiver cover rather than the bolt catch when you load the stripper clip. If you take the mag out of the rifle for transport like I do, you should insert the empty mag, lock the bolt back, and then proceed to load it with a stripper clip. Don't lock the bolt back first and then insert the empty mag, or it will bite as soon as rearward pressure is applied to the receiver cover by your stripper clip or hand.

    • @MilsurpWorld
      @MilsurpWorld  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You ever own one?

    • @stevenwg2360
      @stevenwg2360 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MilsurpWorld Yes, I currently own a couple dozen because I build them on Hakim receivers. Having said that, I don't shoot them a whole lot. When I do, I remove the magazine to load. My understanding is that if the safety is left off, exerting rearward pressure on the receiver cover after the first cartridge has been loaded into the magazine will release the bolt carrier group. Do correct me if I'm wrong.
      facebook.com/108725283871120/photos/a.150546779688970/150856186324696/?type=3&av=108725283871120&eav=AfZITGGdK6dg9XaZ4u5ldLEKCgcAP9Kydr-YozyJM-buFHs47aHns4T1vwoWtMDzqBk&theater¬if_t=page_post_reaction¬if_id=1597255103939604
      Edit - I had to go check one out after writing this. When the gun runs empty, the bolt carrier group is held by the bolt catch. Even after the first cartridge is loaded into the mag, the forward pressure of the bolt on the bolt catch keeps the catch from retracting. The bolt carrier is not being held by the receiver cover until you push the receiver cover forward a little bit to catch the bolt carrier, and that's when the bolt catch retracts. Only then does the bolt carrier group slam home if the receiver cover is pulled back against the safety block with the safety off. This is what you described in your video. No issues there.
      I think my fear of the AG42's bolt carrier has to do with how I have handle them. When I go test-fire an AG42 I've built, I take it to the range with the magazine removed (per MA's nanny-state rules). When I arrive at the range, I lock the bolt back and put the rifle in a rack (per my range's safety rules). When I go to fire the rifle, I take it from the rack with the bolt locked back and insert the loaded mag. If I inserted an empty mag instead and tried to immediately load it with a stripper clip and the safety off, I would smash my thumb because the bolt carrier is being retained by the receiver cover rather than the bolt catch. I now understand that I can avoid this by letting the bolt close on the bolt catch, which is being held up by the empty magazine, before trying to load it with a stripper clip. Thanks for the demo!
      If you always leave the magazine in the rifle, as the designers had intended, you have to make a deliberate motion forward and then back for the bolt to slam home. If you have to remove the magazine for transport like I do, then you can avoid any potential issues by inserting the mag with the bolt closed as shown in the video. My issue is that I had been inserting the magazine with the bolt locked to the rear out of habit, because that's the manual of arms that the Army taught me for the AR platform.
      Just learned something!

      I had one in the eighties. Cost me $75Aus. Loved it. Used it for pigs. Fun days. Handed it back after Port Arthur

    Its not a mauser rifle, it just uses the same cartridge as a mauser rifle, which is a bolt action rifle used in sweden many years ago.
    I used an ag42 (which is the name used in Sweden, only americans call it Ljungman, its just made in a factory called "Ljungman pump AB") during my time in the army back in 1961, we were the unlucky ones, the lucky ones got to carry the lighter and much easier k-pist m/45 (which americans call the "Carl Gustaf", once again, thats just the name of the factory that produced it "Carl Gustafs gevärsfaktori")
    Funny how you americans always uses another name for our stuff, than we do, haha

      I didn't mean to say "all the other Mausers", I just meant "like Mausers". I know the AG42 is not a Mauser.
