Yes sir, I am the unlucky one I own a 3 grade on the barrel. I just purchased a numbers matching in excellent condition. The barrel grade has a arrow on both the 2 and 3 . So as you stated really a 3 on the disk . The bore is excellent, bright and shinny. My buddy is a very picky gunsmith and told me the barrel looks almost new. As you say the Swedish grade these rifle hard. Thank you for the video it was excellent.
Thank you. Very good explanation. I am looking at a rifle on gunbroker and it has the disk so now I can ascertain the bore condition when it left the refurb factory. I used to know this but had forgotten.
Thank you, mine was a 1941 rifle and the medallion was a bit different but that was great. I have the T on the front sight and two triangles I do have are over the number 1 so that's good. There is also a number 1 the "overslag" and Str stamping. Great reference. Thanks again.
Thank you for the tutorial. You can’t assume that the disk was original to the rifle as it left the arsenal. Some shady individuals will swap them out on rifles that have a “3” bore condition and replace it with a disk that has a lower bore number. Buyer beware.
Hello, and thank you for the video. I just got my Mauser stamped with a "3" on bore condition. it's from 1919. should I be worried about bore integrity? got it from a reputable gun store, just thought i would ask. thanks
In 1973 I took my dad's M-94 out with 5 Rounds of Norma Ammo. As Far as I remember it was the 156 Gr. Round Nose bullets. I didn't know anything about the Rifles being sighted in for 300 yds. So I just aimed Dead Center on a Pull Top Pepsi can. Gravel from above knocked down the can 2 times. It was getting late and the Sun was going down. So I aimed about 6 Inches Low in the Standing Position and Fired the last 3 Rounds. When I walked up the Pop Top Opening was at between 1 & 2-o-clock position and there wasn't a mark on the top of the can. The can was canted a bit away from me. When I picked it up there were 2 Tears that merged together and a 3rd. just an 1/8" to the side of the first 2. That's Just How Good These Rifles can Shoot. Spitzer Rounds don't shoot as well for me in this M-94.
Excellent 👍. I've always wanted to know how to read these disk. I've been thinking about getting the swedish Mauser especially if I can find one with the diopter sight. I'm trying to decide between the 96 and the 38? I would also love to find a CG 63. Are you familiar with the CG 63? Thanks for sharing
Yes, when I was on Facebook,a good friend ran a group dedicated to only those. I personally like the 96 the best but for a shooter, like real comp shooting, 63 outclasses all standard milsurp 96
th-cam.com/video/SrHYK7PKSeA/w-d-xo.html Heres mine I've sincce purchased a Vortex 6.5-24 scope for it. I plan on doing the 1km milk jug change with it.
@@scottbuckley6578 the 63 will most likely be able to expose all your bad shooting habits. I'm an retired military member, shot the MacMillan Tac 50 over 1.5 km, but these are in a league of their own.
Mine has a bore size stamp of 6.40, but with a 3 stamped condition (you said a 3 is practicallyunheard of because they rebarrel then at that point?) For context, mine is an 1899 production all matching rifle and still had its original import tag when I bought it at a gun shop, which seems to indicate it was a safe queen. The rifling seems to be in excellent shape and is not too dark, despite the 3 stamp. Edit: My god, mine has no T on the front sight, but has a range adjustments sticker on the stock.... what the hell did I buy??? 1899, all matching numbers, including the butt plate, has a 6.40 bore size, a 3 stamped condition, yet it looks like a 1 or MAYBE a 2 AND still has the original front sight for the heavier bullet.....
@@jeffreyreardon7487 My 1915 vintage M96 swedish mauser is stamped 3 bore condition. And i can shoot 80mm (3") 5 shot groupes @ 100 meter with cheap S&B 140 grain factory ammo. I checked my barrel (matching number) with my bore scope, and my throat´s fire cracking looks like about 500 rounds, yes small rust pitted but i do not care it shoots great. Better than i can with iron sights. All the best from Austria ! (That little country in Europe where Glock, Kahles, Swarovski, Vöre and Steyr is made ;) )
What does a bore diameter 6,50 say about my m38? It's stamped as a condition 3, same style plate as yours. Should I switch out my barrel or is it okay? I expect this newly bought beauty to by my future hunting rifle once I get it cleaned up and zeroed 🤔
Also - my cleaning rod doesn't fit my barrel? It has the original crown stamping on it and fits in length and drilling, but a head too large to enter? Am I doing something wrong or is it a replacement from another type of Swedish mauser? What do you think?
Swedish 6.5x55mm is my pick why ? But, you see, the 6.5x55 actually has more case capacity than the others but because there are so many very old rifles built and chambered for this cartridge, most of the USA manufacturers are NOT willing to load this cartridge to its potential. Instead of labeling the ammo "modern firearm use only" they have decided to handicap everyone using the 6.5x55. In Europe, this is not a problem so Lapua, Norma and others load it to much higher velocities. HSM in the USA is also working on a hot version of the 6.5x55 with the sierra 142 SMK as well and that should be out very soon and readily available for the USA shooters. The 6.5 has long been known for its excellent accuracy and absurdly high ballistic coefficients. With some of the European loads available and with HSM introducing a full capacity load, the 6.5 can be seriously considered for sniping. www.snipercentral.com/6-5x55mm-6-5-swedish/
th-cam.com/video/SrHYK7PKSeA/w-d-xo.html I was a sniper, my CG63 shames my issued TAC-50. I easily shoot about 1 MOA at 500m with mine, with handloaded 140 grain bullets. I found 200 (2bx) 6.5 160 grain bullets to try loading. This is the original bullet weight, so it's worth a try. My goal is to grand slam the milk jug challenge. 1000, 1200, 1500 & 1760 yards. 914.4, 1097.28, 1371.6, 1609.344 m attempt , my not succeed but I'll try.

Thanks! Very well explained. I got two Swedish rifles coming, one short, one long. Can’t wait to shoot them.
Good ttutorial and nice rifle.
I am looking at one and the mark for bore condition is between the 1 and 3 ??????

If you can shoot that, then yes, all day

My swedish m96 rate 1 Disk, is that means to be a decent bore?
What does a bore diameter 6,50 say about my m38? It's stamped as a condition 3, same style plate as yours. Should I switch out my barrel or is it okay? I expect this newly bought beauty to by my future hunting rifle once I get it cleaned up and zeroed 🤔

The condition is only a gauge of rust. I suspect, after you shoot it, and clean with a pull through, you'll be golden, mate
The cleaning rod head is a “handle” and not for running through the barrel. That’s why it doesn’t fit the bore.
How do you establish the fact that the disk is original to the riffle? Especially if the stock # doesn't match?
There's no way that I know of.
If the stock doesn't match, then that disk does NOT represent that rifle, for sure

I think the "handicapping" is due to the norwegian krags in circulation. Krags weren't known for their strength last I knew

No, unfortunately. And if very the past years it's become a known thing that unscrupulous"sellers" will switch out disks for "better" ones
