    I'm really liking this videos. I wish I had learned how to play with this, it would've been easier.

    As someone who played casually 5 years ago, and is now getting back into clix, you are an amazing resource of information. Thank you!

    Amazing video's, started playing heroclix because my girlfriend loves TMNT and wanted to play when they came out with a set. Sadly people were feeding her incorrect rules which lead to me and her squabbling over what I thought were basic understandings. Point being I wish we both had these videos to learn off, now that she has a proper understanding she will enjoy the game that much more. Thank you and please keep up the great work!

      Thank you very much. I plan to continue making the videos... It's a little tricky with the new rules coming up, so I might publish a tad more unboxings and reviews until the official 2017 rules come out. Thanks for watching and commenting and also for bringning a new player to the game!

    You are seriously a great teacher. spoke clearly and easily understood with step by step instructions. I see that you give examples in different scenarios and that's great!! actually simulating it made visually easier as well. Thank you so much for your time creating these. It would be great to play with you if you are located in Southern California haha.

      Thank you very much; you're too kind! I'm glad you're enjoying the videos. I'd love to live in San Diego actually, but it's not the case right now. I'm 3,000 miles away ;o).

    Great format to your channel! Outwit is the only power of the game I really don't like and believe to be far too common on character dials.

    Another hit. Would you do a simple match playthrough style video in the future as a kind of recap/see everything in action with your explanations, annotations and of course the neat animations?

    • @TheTabletopTeacher
      @TheTabletopTeacher  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you very much! That's a good idea indeed; a match playthrough that focuses on a handful of powers... I like it!

    I like using outwit with team abilities some combinations allow you to outwit thru stealth or stealth itself outwit with the Superman team ability or the Ultimates team ability with outwit you can turn off their defense power, attack power or even stealth while they are in stealth.

    I really love all the videos you put it really helps me my kids be able to play better I do have a curious question do you have a favorite piece, and why?

    • @TheTabletopTeacher
      @TheTabletopTeacher  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      A favorite piece? I've never thought about it that way... I have favorite characters for different reasons. I love Mr. Mxyzptlk for the chaos he can bring (especially turning opposing standard-size character to colossal size so my colossal retaliator can attack it). Something as simple as the Starter Set Justice League The Flash (came out with Elseworlds) is so much fun (great for getting Probability Control in just the right position), but it's not a competitive piece like a Chase Green Arrow from the same set (that essentially ignores map for targeting purposes)... I Love'em both. I'm more of a casual player... I like the underdog flavorful characters that are fun to build around. You don't necessarily win with those, but you have fun.

    I like E.V.A. from WXM because she could Outwit and then attack for 1 damage if the were adjacent, then if she pushed to KO to do that if Fantomex had one action token he could immediately create a new E.V.A. who could then use Outwit as well.
    The best Outwit piece I know of is the super rare Beast from UXM who can outwit a different power on every opposing character within 4 squares!

    With my joker team i like to use combinations of outwit and poison. Much like the rest of my play style, it is Mostly inspired by this channel.

    I know a lot of people love Scrambler for an offensive Outwit, but TMNT021 Shredder will always be my favorite. Retro Mutagen Ray not only Outwits, but gives Earthbound/Neutralized. I find it especially hilarious trying to use it on those colossal gods, who might not be good to Outwit (except learning now that I can try a combat ability), but CAN be brought down to regular size! I can take advantage of it being giant to attack it, and then bring it down to size so it can't see over things. I have a friend that intends on using Solaris against me soon. Knowing that I can Outwit the Improved Targeting with Shredder, this thing just got seriously better, especially that it's no longer colossal for Colossal Stamina.
    One question, though. It's kind of bugged me, but let's say in this example of Shredder vs. Solaris, I target it over outdoor blocking terrain. It is no longer giant, and thus can't be seen by Shredder. Does the Outwit still work? For that matter, if Solaris moves outside of Shredder's range, does Outwit stop?

    • @TheTabletopTeacher
      @TheTabletopTeacher  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You need line of fire (within range) to use Outwit, but it doesn't get cancelled because the outwitting character loses LoF. If Shredder lost Outwit due to pushing (from clicks 3 to 4), that would "cancel" the Outwit, but I'm not entirely sure the Earthbound/Neutralized would remain until the next turn (would have to check the WizKids forum to make sure). I'm guessing that, since it's attached to the Retro Mutagen Ray, it might "cancel" as well. BTW, if you know your friend's going to play Solaris, you might want to give him a heads up on your Shredder as well (seems only fair ;o). Thanks for watching and commenting.

    For Outwitting improved movement, does that mean a character can counter all of the improved movement or just one part of the improved movement?

  • @nintendo917
    @nintendo917 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Powerslave from the Iron Maiden set can not only Outwit, but he can also Mind Control 3 targets at once while only taking a max of 1 damage, and then giving his Attack value +1 for each character he MInd Controlled. He's pretty OP

    • @TheTabletopTeacher
      @TheTabletopTeacher  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow... And those Slave Tokens are never removed augmenting his attack value permanently, am I right? If he uses it on all his turns (he's indomitable, so that's 2 out of 3 turns), I'm guessing he would pretty much have a +3 modifier to his attack in every game. Interesting.

    • @nintendo917
      @nintendo917 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The downside is that he costs 175 points, which makes it hard to make a viable 300 point Iron Maiden team. 400 points is possible if you throw in The Trooper, Iron Maiden and Somewhere in Time

    Just trying to get back into this game. I think this is using the older rules (which to me are still new). If it is invalid are you able to remove this vid and make a new one please?
    Your vids are awesome but just trying to learn the rights bits.

    Quick question...a friend is trying to tell me you can use outwit when being attacked (not his turn) and take away attacking ability’s until his next turn. Don’t think he’s right and if he is can you explain? Thanks! Love your videos!

    • @TheTabletopTeacher
      @TheTabletopTeacher  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No can do. Outwit is a FREE action and any action must be given on the controlling player's turn. There's no way to give an action to one of your characters on your opponent's turn. It's why powers like Probability Control are worded in way that doesn't involve an action being given, but Outwit is an action. It doesn't matter if the action is FREE or not; you can only give actions on your turn. That's probably where the confusion stems from (the fact that Outwit is a FREE action).

    In a little debate. Wonder if someone could help me out. Can Dr. Doom 005 use his special outwit, "Few men are as subtle as Dr. Doom" on Title character Abilities. Specifically could Doom stop Strange's Sorcerer Supreme ability?

    I'm looking for support figs. Ones with things like support outwit or prob all the time. Or who have traits that buff my team or debuff my opponent.

    If there's a hindering terrain obstructing the line of fire, will outwit work?

    • @TheTabletopTeacher
      @TheTabletopTeacher  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      yup, the line of fire is hindered, not blocked (unless the target has stealth).

  • @bcarraway1
    @bcarraway1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    So can Outwit negate combat abilities that are granted from a trait? I am thinking no, but the phrasing is a little confusing.

    • @TheTabletopTeacher
      @TheTabletopTeacher  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This video was published before the updated rules. Outwit says that a target opposing character can't use a certain power (standard or special), so if a trait has a standard power embedded in it, you can very well outwit it.

  • @2mirandir
    @2mirandir 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Power Cosmic & Quintessence only prevents powers from being countered.
    The combat abilities may still be countered as normal.

    • @TheTabletopTeacher
      @TheTabletopTeacher  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are quite right... Don't know why I said that. I will add an annotation to the video. Thank you for picking up on that!

    how about Scarlet Witch from the AvX set? Can her trait counter Quintessence and the Power Cosmic team ability?

    • @TheTabletopTeacher
      @TheTabletopTeacher  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that would work (only once per game).... Granted the opposing player with that team ability doesn't roll a 6. It's the "can't use" phrase that makes it possible. In Heroclix terminology, making it so a character "can't use" a power or an ability is not the same as "countering" it. Power Cosmic cannot be "countered", but it's not protected from a "can't be used" worded power or trait. Furthermore, Quintessence/Power Cosmic says that *powers* can't be countered (a team ability is not a power, so you need something really special to prevent team abilities from being used... Catwoman (JLTW002) also has a trait along those lines (adjacent opposing characters can't use team abilities). So does Lois Lane (SMWW047) and others.
      For easy reference, here's Scarlet Witch's trait:
      NO MORE MUTANTS: Once per game, give Scarlet Witch a double power action and choose a team ability. Any other character that can use that team ability must roll a d6 that can't be rerolled and if the result is 1 - 5, that character can't use the chosen team ability for the rest of the game.

    Can a character with 3 bolts target 3 different characters with Outwit?

    • @TheTabletopTeacher
      @TheTabletopTeacher  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, because Outwit makes you choose *a* power and *a* target opposing character. Hope that helps.

    Platinum SR from WF Set able to use Outwit Twice as long as theres a friendly Metle Men character with in 3 Square's of her

    • @TheTabletopTeacher
      @TheTabletopTeacher  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a cool Outwit character indeed... At only 50 points, if I recall. All the Metal Men together must be pretty interesting to play. I had Alloy on my team once, but never got to the point where he would disassemble into the Metal Men.
