You are lucky he did you right. I spent wayyy too much on a bass I had him build. He used garbage parts from temu. But I bought Italian pickups and American made tuners that are worth more than everything else on the guitar combined.
This is cool to see. You’re both at very different ends of the guitar spectrum. I like Scarred for their stance on messing with everything but hard against false attribution. Good on them for having a go.
I totally love this! From the weight, to the look, the body chamfer, the thickness of it and the headstock design! I prefer a somewhat thinner neck with a darker board like this as well. If they're still around in a couple of months when I'll have the $, I definitely want a purple one! I love my Les Pauls, but this would be great for my favorite doom/stoner metal riffs! Thanks for featuring it, Trogly!
I like the way the horns are lined up vertically when standing, aesthetically it looks unique. Belly cut makes it comfortable to play sitting down. The headstock design will help tuning stability and a $5.00 Floyd Rose string retainer bar solves the string height issue at the nut. It's a solid design in my view, I like it.
The custom pickups sound great and, while I didn't like the shape initially, it did grow on me throughout the video. And now that I know that it's effectively the Gibson version of a Jagstang, it makes a lot more sense.
Nice review. Been following Sean for a long time super happy for him. I remember when he built the other guitar. I was going to get one of these, but had to wait. First batch all sold out.
It should have short tuners since they are locking with no angle. That would solve any issues with the nut. But then I bet that would have cost way too much.
@@Trog yes - but - I still agree with adjusting the neck angle as the permanent solution. Using short-shaft tuners is a work-around and could limit tuner options if someone wants to change them out.
I like Sean and his channel, it's definitely fun to watch. This guitar is hideous though, and for the prices posted on eBay, $75 more you could buy a Studio from the Demo Shop. But I guess if you have to have a weird wacky body shape, then whatever. lol I'm sure it's a good guitar, definitely not for me.
I like the prototype better and if I could change anything on the production model the thickness of the body is the 1st thing. I'd also like it scaled down a little. Maybe 95% of it's current length. A slight angle to the headstock and I'd rather have a set of custom P-90s and no push pulls.
I have a Vietnamese made Agile AL3200. Very, very well made. At the time I bought it Rondo music said they were being made in Korea. Had they said Vietnam I probably would have passed on it. I grew up in the 60's early 70's. I really wanted to find flaws so I could justify returning it. There just weren't any. It was Rondo's top of the line guitar at the time and ran $600. U.S., I think. I do hope your new Scarred Reaper is as well made. Yes I do still have & play it. It is also, like your Reaper, rather heavy
Yeah I was disappointed a channel I enjoyed teaching people to have a go at setting up and repairing cheaper guitars is advertising a guitar for just under $1k with shipping. And if he sent this one to Trogley to review with all those flaws, we are getting pure garbage. And I won't be buying his wife's pickups wound with fridge magnets either.
I'm a player and picky.. I have one and can guarantee that this guitar keeps up and plays well. On top of supporting local businesses. Quality and price range are right on point.
I have a black Reaper that I bought from Scared s/n 000003. The guitar is a awesome playing guitar and is well built. Its as good or better than all 4 of my Les Paul's. I was glad I pulled the trigger on this one. Great job Sean and Cathy on your first run of guitars.
If they make those horns symmetrical. This guitar would look really good. Those pickups are great sounding. Especially the neck split. Sounds kinda strat/tele!
I only discovered Seans show in the last week watching him do a fret job and then noticed he had his own range. I love the sounds and colours he's chosen. I wish him the best.
Totally want one now! WOW! Those pickups sound awesome and the guitar looks excellent. They should make one that has the holographic green top from the prototype, maybe even make another version that more closely matches that one. Either way I know I want one now. Good playing, too, Trogly!
Ha! I literally just said the same thing as I watched the closeups. My son’s IYV Les Paul has the same type of finish flaws, without the wood repairs, and I paid $100 for it. I would have serious buyers remorse if I paid a grand and got this on my doorstep.
Hey Austin, that was awesome that you reviewed his guitar. I love Sean,‘s channel him and his wife are awesome. I think you’re on point with your suggestions. I would love to have one of his guitars and I’m probably going to buy one. It is just so different and cool thanks for the review.
I like the prototype a lot more. The P90 was a little too angled to me. I would probably want a straight across 90 in the bridge and one in the neck. Possibly even two humbuckers with split coils. Then there's the idea of three singes as well.
Reaper Scarred unique design stands out from the import pack. Pups sound great. Nice to see Vietnam produced guitars. Congrats to Sean and Cathy for launching this line!
Trey from Straight out the Box (one of the founders of Scar My Guitar) played some Metal licks and was shredding on this thing in his review! \m/ This guitar is a pretty cool new design, like a classic shape modified for heavier genres! \m/
I watch the unboxing of their first guitar on the Scarred video , thought it was interesting , a bit weird looking , kinda ' Pure Salem ' looking , I agree with others that the prototype is more desired , it'd be cool to see a LP Special type set up with two P-90's , Thanks Trogness !!
i actually like the skinnier prototype look more minus the neck, very nice though, i think the headstock shape is a bit weird and i feel they could find another design similar that pops a bit more with that bodyshape. very cool guitar on the whole though.
I actually like it. It separates itself from the SG and the Les Paul. Plus the horn was even bigger on some models I saw on the channel. I'd still be better if they made more metal oriented guitars with this shape, but it's clearly not a one trick pony.
Called his channel and company Scarred guitar because of his finishes. He admitted to flaws with his finish. He has overcome his finish problems. Sean is a fun dude. His confidence inspires me with my instrument repairs. He can build a guitar from scratch.
Add a few more wraps on those tuner posts before snugging the locks (be certain the string winds down as it coils). That'll increase the strings' break angle by a few thousandths at the nut. It won't be much, but it'll make a significant difference and be more secure.
I really appreciate new designs, but IMHO extremly ugly. Id recommend going back to drawing board, especially on the headstock. Pickups sounded extremly weak
I actually never thought I would see a volute that was uncool. It almost seems as if there is no understanding of the purpose of a volute - that it just looks cool so "lets add one of those"...
You should check out the Reverend set necks, the Roundhouse is a carved maple top singlecut, while the Sensei is the more SG type, but both have offset waists, body contours and nice neck heels. Sometimes the Sensei gets a maple veneer, sometimes both will have Ebony fretboards, but it’s otherwise just all Korina.
Reminds me of Westcreek. You gotta br a BIG fan of scarred to pay $800 for this. Nothing here that isn't on most Amazon sub $300 imports. Edit: also the amp sounds far dif then when it's a Gibson. Actually sounds as good as any other solid body to me probably even more diverse because of the coil split. It’s all in the player not the guitar anyways
Has a lot of different tonal voices to it, very marked. And it has personality, you know where it came from. Kinda have to admit that although i'm not a very traditional kind of player, his guitar assessment and reviewing is just great and this is proof of it.

That headstock shape on a smaller body and this would be great. Huge first effort.
Nice improvement over the prototype. Cool to see something different on the market
To many better options on the market in this price range, you would really have to be a loyal fan,to want one of these, the weight alone is a big nope.

Love the design! Very refreshing to see a new idea.
The sound is the best thing about it IMO. I do like the colour too. The weight and the upper horn would put me off to be honest.
Nice specs but my OCD is triggered by that oversized horn on the upper bout
I love the shape 3:20 I just don't necessarily think the headstock matches the body what's adds up to interpretation to each their own 3:25

That’s an unfortunate shape.
It’s like the top horn is melting. If they reduced it by 30% it wouldn’t be nearly as goofy.

They could always do the headstock similar to that of a Telecaster or Stratocaster where it scoops downward .
Headstock doesn't vibe with that body shape, but would look killer on a V-style guitar.
It sounds freaking awesome! Can't wait to see your version of a tele...

It would look much better if he shrunk or lowered the height of the top horn to look more like a dunable cyclops or Yamaha sg.
Dude, that looks fantastic. I'm genuinely interested in one.
the collab id never in a millionyears id guess to see
Good ergonomics but maybe make the body more like the prototype in shape and slightly thinner.
