      hey Alan, have you ever seen/heard the Reloop Grooveblaster BT speaker? im seeing it on sale at B&H, Adorama, Amazon etc. crazy specs for the price and size, basically a 4.4 kg. baby DJ/PA speaker that *might* be amazing...but the only coverage i find is in German.
      would love to catch your reaction to them. TBH, your comparison of the Soundcore Boom x2 vs the 2.2 Minirig Mk3 rocked my world, i cant upgrade to them now...i need HiFi, Deep Bass, AND light (enough) weight.
      i suspect id need a 4.8 Minirigs Mk 3, split into a 2.4 x 2 stereo setup, using the low gain inputs with a giant 12-18 db bass shelf starting at 65hz, but that brings everything to 8.5 kilos and $2000. so the Reloop speaker pair at $450 plus another $200 for good 12volt batteries is looking smarter for Deep Bass On The Beach.

      still sticking currently to my pair of TDK Q35's with 19v/3A external batteries, but the 360 degree design means i had to create parabolic reflecting jackets for each out of hard plastic. paid about $250 for both back in 2013, and they do well as outdoor semi-hifi, but eager to upgrade.

    in terms of sheer size and weight (leaving sound completely out of it) i'd be curious how it compares to the UE Hyperboom for four times as much lol. these types of "party speakers" really blur the line with the hype of name brands and things like that when you can get something this big (the t9) for $100. videos are always outstanding Alan, just bought a motion boom last week after people pointed me here. completely changed my mind from a JBL flip and UE Megaboom. the motion boom rocks. thank you!

      In a party speaker I would appreciate a warmer sound with deep bass over a sparkly sound with upper bass. I've recently seen in a video of two Neo's playing together in stereo and it blew me away. I felt the bass hits very deep and the issue of sound seperation is resolved by playing them in stereo.

    The T9 is a very popular model in Thailand, next to the W-King T8 which is the king of deep bass in the whole W-King lineup. You should try to get your hands on the T8 Alan, its known as the more affordable Onyx 5, with proper mids and highs.

    I just got the T9 in the mail 3 days ago. I was extremely shocked at the weight of it, in a good way. I'm 240lbs so I'm not a little dude but the T9 had a pleasantly heafty build that I was not anticipating. On top of that it sounds great. I mixed some music on it and watched a movie on my projector with it and was very surprised how well it did. I'm going to buy a second one to keep in the car for BBQ season here in Chicago. Great little speaker to pull out and get some tunes going.

    I've been breaking these in at moderate to low volume via TWS and they sound more like HiFi home speakers and of course I did load the cavity. Overall room bass sounds really good I think and not exaggerated. Been playing a variety of stuff and have been enjoying it. I never much liked the outdoor mode as was harsh to me but they weren't broke in either. I'd like if they'd offer 2 different bass modes and forget that outdoor mode.

  • @_-Z-
    @_-Z- 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    T9 sounds pretty good but, for me, the lack of lower bass and any kind of ip rating prevents it from being one I would consider. Seems kind of fundamental to have some sort of liquid protection on a "party" speaker. I have heard rumors that W-King may release an updated T9 in the future with at least some ip rating so everyone considering this speaker may want to do some further research (and possibly hold off from buying this one if it's true). Awesome review, as always, Alan! 👍😁

    • @alanrossreviews
      @alanrossreviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      remember its rear bottom ported so it wont fair quite so well in these comparisons where i keep them away from a wall and recordings are fully on axis. i might re-visit this.

    • @Msantor1605
      @Msantor1605 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You can't have the bass the T9 has with an IP rating. That's the compromise. Either you want less bass and an IP rating or a giant open bass port, big bass, but zero water protection. Take your pick.

    • @_-Z-
      @_-Z- 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think it's impossible to have the bass of the T9 without having an open port. Not saying it will sound exactly the same. Very likely the motion boom has more lower bass than the t9. It just can't match the volume 1 on 1. 2 in stereo vs 1 t9 would likely be a different story.

    • @Msantor1605
      @Msantor1605 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@_-Z- I Just ment from a shear power standpoint, it is a fact that you get the most SPL from a ported system. That's not debatable. So if we are talking everything being properly tuned, you physically can't get the same SPL with sealed/radiated (IP rating) that you can with a ported speaker.
      Who knows how much engineering went into the T9 though. I would like to think they had a sound engineer actually spec a tuned port for it but who knows.
      You can definitely have a sealed/radiated speaker that is properly built with more SPL than a ported speaker that has no engineering put into the port design.

    • @_-Z-
      @_-Z- 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Personally, I just like having the peace of mind some sort of ip rating can provide. As a party speaker I can only imagine it's only a matter of time before someone spills a beverage on it, it takes a dunk in the pool, or even gets rained on if it's used at an outdoor event.

    I have the Soundcore Trance and i absolutely love it. I always play with my mp3 equalizer and i increased the mid and highs and the bass is great. After watching your video, i noticed the Trance has too much deep bass and not enough mid and highs and thats why the T9 always sounds better. Like i said before, i was able to increase the mids and highs and the speaker sounded so much better and louder. I don't have the T9 to compare but the Soundcore Trance is also an excellent Bluetooth speaker with great bass. Just play with the equalizer.

    I bought the last 2 I assume as Amazon is posting "currently unavailable" to date with no indication of restocking expectation. Perhaps after your review everyone bought them. I took mine apart (photos on Amazon US as the first reviewer and it doesn't have passive radiators) and loaded the cavity with some fiber padding which likely leveled out those dips because a port can cause that dipping affect. Test it again after plugging the port if you get bored. One of mine was "defective" however the internal ribbon wire was crooked and I unplugged it and straightened it out. Works fine now. You have to remove 12 Allen wrench screws and it's pretty easy if you're so inclined to mess with stuff. The woofers are about 1/4" larger on the T9 over the D9. Remember that ported speakers behave more like monitors so placement near walls or other surfaces is critical being ported in the rear.

    • @alanrossreviews
      @alanrossreviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      ha! i dont think my numbers would cause an amazon run 😁 thanks for the info. i thought it was weird they claim passive radiators along with a port.
      yeah you are right, i record away from walls trying to keep everything simple and just hear what the speaker alone does. this will always favour some speakers and not others. so how did the dampening help?

    • @davlippo7
      @davlippo7 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alanrossreviews I think the dampening worked to some degree (I don't think it can ever hurt) but it's likely slight tuning improvements since the light ABS material isn't great for high end speakers plus it's not rigid or dense enough. I've always noticed high end speakers have some degree of internal material added called "preloaded". I saw this guy
      at Erin's Audio Corner analyze the Neumi BS5 Bookshelf Speaker that had similar dips and he stuffed the port with a sock and it reduced the dips and flattened the curve. It obviously won't improve the bass boominess but in his case it was the double ports causing the resonance. Might be a similar situation. True that adding internal material and/or plugging the port to varying degrees will have different impacts but since these are so close to flat it's worth some simple experimentation. I have a video posted where I cut out the D9 passive radiator and added a port. It impacts the punchiness depending on the port style and size. I've always thought that the passive radiator was a rather synthetic way to create bass but obviously needed for water-proofing on outdoor speakers. The T9 at maximum which I haven't tested myself sounded like I heard distortion in your video but might have been your mic too since these are really loud. Adding materials would likely help if the drivers need more air resistance support due to the open cavity. Don't forget drivers need to get well broken-in to start sounding their best. A stiff driver could sound poor or distorted at the beginning.

    I have (2) WKing T9s in TWS on the floor angled up (about 35 degrees) on the left and right of my office chair. The volume is moderate and if I closed my eyes I'd swear I had a $600 system playing around me. Great sound, clean authentic bass, well balanced with good imaging and sound stage. The bass is good on the floor. I'm don't mean booming, wall shaking sub woofer bass but clean and well balanced bass. The toms are so clean and clear. Voices are clear and authentic and believable. These are not great outdoor speakers. Might not be great at full volume but for critical and non-fatiguing sounds they are fantastic. I did load them with fiber to control any strange resonances. Seriously WKing if you are reading this, move the guts of the T9 into a classy wooden cabinet and sell these in a pair as powered bookshelf speakers. Keep the dual drivers too. Don't change it much. Brace the cabinet internally to stiffen it and remove any port resonance. It's a new market for you.

They are all pretty good and a great value so it depends on the individual's personal taste and how they want to use the speaker. Thus far they have not separated the internal air space L vs R channels so each driver shares the same cavity. It seems like separate cavities makes more sense so the speakers don't influence one another. In TWS paring mode that goes away.

    No single enclosure speaker, even if it has L/R stereo drivers, provides a good stereo field unless it's within 24 inches of your face. The T9 has nestled its tweeters in close proximity and in the center which doesn't help matters. Probably because they want it to sit upright most of the time. When it's on the side the tweeter separation is zero or on a vertical axis while the mid-low drivers are on a horizontal axis. Said all of that to say that (2) in TWS is the way to go with the T9.

      I’m just an adolescence who gets high all the time. So I love music. And usually indoors. I was considering the Anker motion boom. Or the W-king x10. And also the charge 5. I love bass.

      i would get the motion boom if you prefer deep bass or x10 if you want more volume and more upper bass,. High all the time sounds good to me 😁😁

      @@alanrossreviews That W-King sounds a bit treble heavy...?? bit silly that it’s not water resistant. Can you pair two in TWS?

      yeah its very clear but not overly bright unless you have very bright recordings. yes you can stereo pair them 👍
