  • What a monster bike!
Honda gave you value for money in the eighties, this thing has more metal in it than a mondeo. Once on the move it sheds its weight and is actually a lovely ride. Fast back then and still no slouch today, this bike will sit on big speeds all day long. A bit droney in the engine note on the move, although it’s smooth and sophisticated. Tonnes of grunt as you’d expect from 1000cc V4 making it fab for minimal gear prodding and nice shove out of corners. Excellent fairing, better than the BMW RS that came earlier. The seat let it down slightly, a bit too soft causing the numb bum to set in after a few hours. With screw and lock nut valve adjustment it’s relatively easy home mechanic friendly maintenance. Cam chains are the usual problem area, not to be neglected. Its heavy, not gold wing levels of mass, but too heavy for quick spins. Now it makes a fine gentleman’s classic tourer. Very rare to see on the road these days, a real talking point. Especially when you factor in the TT production class win.
I thoroughly enjoyed owning this bike but returned to the safety of bmw airheads for touring duties.

From an era when Honda engineers had lots of new ideas and actually built them. Hondas were built really nicely in those days, unique bikes.

I owned the VF 1000 86 in light blue and the dark blue 🔵💙 from new they were 5500$ in Australia back in the mid 80s very smooth and stable after that they made the CBR 1000 in around 89 with much better and stiffer suspension and the VFR 750 which was a very very reliable and great motorcycle 🏍️ followed by the VFR 800 V4 another beautiful bike 🚲

I was always drawn to Honda back in the 80s. There bikes were just more stylish and interesting than most others to me at the time. The CBX range were also very cool. Honda is now a shadow of its former self in my opinion.

Its a Micron system, fitted way back when. I don’t think the company exists anymore! British made with SS down pipes and carbon end can. Nice sound and much lighter than originals.

I am getting possessed by trying to find a video of the Bol Dor that I rode and enjoyed, was told it was imported by a British soldier and only six were built, nearest so far is this bike, although a 750, a gold cup on te tank ?, any ifo ?
