It's always fun watching how your projects come out. Keep it up and never stay bored. If you guys ever have trouble painting gold on your models, put a light brown as your base coat for where you want to be gold. Let the base dry and then paint your gold. It turns out pretty cool.
I’d love to see the same mini painted twice, and painted once this way and once with a standard slapchop, for a side by side comparison! Maybe also a comparison of the amount of time each took?
Some excellent stuff on your channel. I’m now a slap chop convert but with a sort of Zenithal hybrid. Completed my space Hulk minis after the game had been sitting on my shelf since it was released back in 2009… now onto Zombicide 1st edition. It isn’t a magic bullet and there are lessons to be learned to get the absolute best out the technique but boy are the results impressive. Most importantly it’s fast. When you have game with over 70 minis you just cannot spend hours and hours blending and shading not the mention the skill that’s required to blend and shade well. Speed paints… I’m a total convert.
That’s why I have also primed in medium gray, and then sprayed (or brushed) from above using a slightly grayish white. I did this for decades before “zenithal” was even a thing. And so far, so good! Never prime in black, unless you are creating an extremely dark subterranean look that is meant to have loads of depressing shadows. :)
If you do ever find 'entry level' painting competitions then i'd love to know about them. I see big painting competitions like golden daemon or MPO and find them super intimidating
Personally I liked the the green skin as it made it stand out instead of blending in more with the brown furs and leather. But love the channel and Iv purchased my first lot of apeedpaints today so I’m looking forward to many hours of painting . Hopefully More enjoyable than how I normally paint 😂
I often combine both slap chop and zenithol HOWEVER using the colours that you have here I would prime black then use the tan brown at 45 degrees as the zenithol. Then do a much more subtle white brush focusing on the top down. Then proceed as you do!! Have fun
Hey about the Contest question, OPR (one page rules) is doing a "mostly" monthly mini painting contest, just enter a specific "rules set" and paint away. You just win some discount codes for thier MMF shop but i mean its a beginning
I think i explained my process in one of your facebook posts but i don't recall if it was yours or not. I use damp dry brushing, the kind artis opus teaches, black primer, mid grey, white. then i use white ink through the airbrush with a light zenithal and then in specific spots to bring up the brightness where it's needed like shoulder pauldrons, the face, a raised knee. from there i undershade and over spray with a general shadow tone and highlight also using inks through my airbrush. colors chosen for the shade and over spray depend on what color tones i'm going to use. then i apply contrast paints, mostly thinned 1:1 with contrast medium over top. the thinned contrast paints let the pre-shade/highlight show through more. if i need more color saturation i go over the area again. then i dry brush on any other highlights that i think are needed and then edge highlight and i call it done.
use your airbrush for your zeniths, you can eveb use it to spray up i to areas facing downwards with a shade cokour ( say purple) and then do your slapchop style inks or contrast paints over that, it will be the nice next step for you
Have you seen Ninjon latest video ? It's like zenithal and speedpaint on roïds. Since you've improved so much, it should be a style that's in your range !
Have you had any problems with the wash reactivating your speed paints? I've heard that is an issue to be aware of, and you applied your wash fairly generously. Just curious. Love the channel!
Your white drybrush made me ghasp for air. its more a wetbrush, isnt it? :D You can see the brush has made many thick strokes instead of a real edge highlight. that makes the overall look a little more dirty on wide areas like the skin. I think if you use a paper towel to whipe the brush and then whipe it a little more, the white will come out way better. give it a try and see if its to your taste. Just thinking that may be a very easy improvement. at least if you want to enter a competition at least. love the technique and its name btw ;)
Way more than tenfold! Your older vids tended to not highlight your painting. Now you paint beautifully.. wine gets better with age, rare that painting skills do at our age.
Can you please write if they are speedpaints or normal please 🙏. I think you did in previous videos. I'm following and doing your slapchop method atm. Can you also please print an ork walkinator and paint it pretty please 🙏 keep up the amazing videos geeza
