I was going to say, the whole reason Bass is the way he is, (the vanity, the edge, etc), is because he KNOWS Zero is being built. Beating Megaman isn’t about serving Wily, or even anything against Rock himself, it’s Bass proving the validity of his own existence. To show the world he wasn’t obsolete. The SECOND, that Zero gets finished, Bass would put his entire soul into destroying him. I don’t buy that Zero killed all of the classic characters, but I know that Bass spent the last of his energy on Zero.
In Power Fighters, Bass saw that Wily created Zero but the silhouette was Zero being rebuilt like in X2 instead of his X1 look. After that Bass feared that Zero could help Wily achieve world domination or destroy everything.

🎧 OMG this is a perfect idea for a story in the Mega Man X Franchise! Listening to this, I imagine the story behind this song would be that Bass has overpowered X (except I imagine him to have a power granted by Sigma to give him a phase similar to when he was fused with Treble) and now Zero must step in and save X while he regains his energy. As a robot who hated Dr. Wily, it would make perfect sense if he somehow figured out Zero's background and try to destroy him out of spite. In X's case, it would make sense for Bass to want to defeat him as well, because he is a spitting image of Mega Man in the Classic Franchise. For Bass himself in the X series, I imagine his remains would have been found by Sigma and he'd upgrade him into a powerful Reploid with his core personality and some of his memories being the only things left of him to be fully intact after centuries past. Sigma, upon learning of Bass's background, would manipulate him into thinking X is the same mortal enemy he's been fighting since the days of Dr. Light and Dr. Wily. What do you guys think of that? Pretty cool or what?
