- Decided to try to beat 50 fights in a row on one coin. The gameplay is pretty sloppy on parts, but I pulled it off and rolled over the score in the process. On fight 51 (Sandman 12), I obviously gave up intentionally since I was pretty convinced at that point that I have this game down to where I could marathon it if I wanted to.

Since Disco Kid was intended to be Kid Quick, you probably do remember him, just a different version.
One of my all time favorite arcade games! I'd love to have back all the quarters I fed this machine.

Fist time seeing the original arcade version of punch out. I'm surprised at how different this is than MTPO, and also at how similar a lot of it is to Super Punch out. You can tell super punch out was designed to be closer to the style of this original arcade punch out (I thought Super Punch Out was originally only a SNES release at first), whereas punch out wii was designed to be closer in style to MTPO. Very interesting.
I can't BELIEVE you THREW the last fight! You will never outlive the infamy of that disgraceful fight!

The top ranked fights can be different with each iteration of challenger, as the AI can fluctuate and counter with variance.
Just added an original Punch-Out arcade cabinet to my game room today. Absolutely love it, awesome memories from the 80's.
I crunched the numbers. fight 255 would be glass joe
fight 256 would be mr.sandman.
whether or not sandman is beatable in that match is a mystery.
The fight counter resets at fight 99 but technically the 3rd set 55-56 fights you would be right

I beat him in that match. I went 272 straight without a loss. 5-6 hrs of playing. Even at age 17 I couldn’t hold the piss in any longer & had to turn the game over to a 10 yr old or so kid.
I used to look at glass joe and think I might have a chance against this guy hopefully. Love this game. Some great times

was always one of my favorites 6:44 when they go into flurry and you keep popping the left and snapping their head back before they can lay a glove on ya ..you can get the same action with pizza pasta .. i must have gave him a dozen shot to the forehead before he went down . it almost looked like he was dancing ...funny shit
If anyone can get evidence or footage that a Kid Quick Top Ranked exists, id love to see it.
His only appearance is fight #4. Since his AI is given to Glass Joe later on this makes sense. Same thing for Pizza Pasta (only one more appearance) and Piston Hurricane.

zallard1 is right about being sloppy once in awhile...but he knows the patterns and has the reflexes to get a punch in just before the opponent's punch lands which is GOLD in this game. I never played that way when I was rolling this game back in the 80s and early 90s in the arcades but I'm going to incorporate it moving forward on my home Legends Ultimate Arcade...good stuff zallard1!
I was never able to get this far so it's interesting to see how the boxers increased in difficulty

I wish I still had the reflexes to throw that right cross more often when the opponent is about to punch me. I'll have to practice it more. I had a system that enabled me to play indefinitely over 30 years ago (4-5 hours on one quarter no rematches). I know we only have to face Kid Quick once but I would recommend just throwing rights at Kid Quick....knocks him out faster most times.

Some parts of their patterns are meant to take those kind of stuns. Other parts are when he’s punching during their punching animations, and his faster hook is getting through.
2:09 I swear Zallard Knocked Bald Bull down 2 times before that so the commentator shouldn’t have to count and just say TKO because in a lot of the Punch out games you have to TKO him
I flipped it on one quarter back in the 80s. I lost to Piston Hurricane around the 50th fight. So a few thousand over a million but not 1.3 million
My Best Arcade Game Ever!!! i used to skip last lesson at school to go play this back in 86....
I pissed this game back in 1985, high score of around 2,7 million, I gave up after about 100++ fights and let some kid take over, he lost in about 30 seconds

You only fight Kid Quick once and Pizza Pasta twice. After that the other four boxers are it from third time through and on from what I remember on the original arcade game at whatever difficulty setting it was set at.

Thanks! Yeah, it seemed like the hardest 2 fights are Hurricane/Bull in the later loops imo. Bull you can exploit the ear-rub pattern for pretty easy hits, and Hurricane is just dodging those 2 hooks, unloading a max damage uppercut, get hit, rinse & repeat.
210-pound Kid Quick is a palette/head swap of 112-pound Glass Joe. His afro weighs 98 pounds?
The only thing secrets about Glass Joe's win is he defeat is Nick Brusier

I did this particular run on MAME. I didn't have an arcade board of this at the time, so I did it on the only platform available to me at the time.

Kid Quick has an AI overlap with Glass Joe so he’s the first to go. After the next cycle Pizza Pasta gives way to a buffed up Piston Hurricane.

I made it to fight 52, it took at least 2 hrs, piston hurricane is the only real threat once you get the red gloves

Playing this game in SoCal, it was all about the settings.
At MCB Camp Pendleton, the settings at the base bowling center were HARD. Wanted to get max coins from the macho men.

No, Mike Tyson was only on punch out for NES as a special guest.
Tyson could have had multiple titles in this franchise, but he got upset in Tokyo midway through the first production run of the NES port of this game.

It does increase in difficulty, but it feels like it might level off at the 4th or 5th loop through the game. The rest seems to just be an endurance.

Not sure myself, but the game just gradually drops characters from the lineup until it loops Hurricane, Bull, Joe, and Sandman indefinitely.

Game must be set to easy mode? I've played this game in the past and one couldn't knock them out that easy....
It is set to the easiest dip switch settings since they are default settings, yes, but these strategies work on the harder settings too, although their health refills are slightly higher on those higher difficulties.
You may have not been good at the game at six flags and my local laundry game room I played using only the left punch until ko was available and played for hours at a time
