A deep umbrella with a difuser makes the same light like a shallow umbrella with difuser.Without difuser its other story

im not a big user of umbrella lighting, perse, as I find there is too much spill. The deep dish tends to narrow the beam of light with far less spill, from what I have learned. Id love to do a video to compare both!

why not close aperture all the way till the picture you'd take would be completely black and have the lights are your only light source ? when i use speedlights and strobes i use to take pictures like this.

Thanks for the observation! What f-stop would you be using by 'closing it up ? F22 ?

How find the best exposure for both light without a light meter?

if you dont have a light meter, you can your in-camera meter as well for ambient exposure. For strobes , without a dedicated flash meter, youd have to 'eye ball' it, and continually change the power setting of each flash until you are satisfied with the results. Trial by error , and its tedious especially when using 3 or more strobes!
