- When we are calling out to relocate snakes from homes, the most common question we are asked is "How did you get into this?"
Follow Bryan, Marissa, Jeff, Nick, and Bryce as they share their "origin stories" as the relocate rattlesnakes, pull snakes from patio furniture, and get vomited on.

Steve Irwin...Still dearly missed by so many of us! Great video, maybe my favorite - Thanks, Jeff!
♥️’d Marissa’s back story-you can tell how much she loves her job
Thank you 😊
It’s amazing how an individual can influence so many people. Tiger Woods influenced a generation of young golfers of which many became professionals. Like Tiger, it is Steve Irwin who has influenced many young people to have an interest in reptiles, of which many got into wildlife conservation as a career. Truly, two remarkable examples of how people’s trajectory in life can change when they see the world around them differently.
Oh, my, I am VERY excited to hear how my favorite snake rescue/relocation/research team members each got started!!
Marissa's gorgeous, XL, extra spicy gopher snake is so cute!!!
Hey, if I am comfortably resting in nice, soft cushions, & you disturb me, even gently, I'ma gonna get grumpy!!
Ive been waiting to hear these origin stories. Great video. Thanks Jeff for putting this together.
Jeff you did an awesome job putting this together. I loved hearing everyone’s stories on how we ended up with the coolest job ever!
Thanks Marissa!
@yupyupyup4444 I agree, too
Just want to say the same thing, Jeff you did a great job putting this together. Having followed this channel for a few years now I never get tired of you guys finding and relocating snakes. Here in Montreal area, there were not many snakes when I was growing up. We find a few garter snakes That was about it. Mike from Montreal.
@@jeffmartineau8479 Thanks, Jeff, for all the work you do in putting stories like this together and also for the editing you do.
Marissa that was a great story you said
I can certainly relate to young Marissa's tale. I also had thoughts of one day being the next Irwin or Corwin. At least Marissa still gets to be one of the stars of a cool TH-cam show!
I can also relate to Bryan's "military brat who loves dinosaurs" bit, and I imagine there are a ton of other folks who could say the same ('cause dinosaurs are cool!).
That a very cool and interesting video. Knowing your background and seing pictures of the younger you.
That first gofer snake was really not having it 😂.
Interesting how many parallels there are in your stories! You are all fortunate to have found your passion early in life.💜
Loved hearing your backstories. Thanks!
This was a very fun episode and I enjoyed hearing everybody’s background stories. ❤ 🐍
That gopher snake was cheeky!
Something I have wondered for a while is if you only hire people who already know how to properly handle hot snakes, or if you give that specific training.
Aww, that was a fun episode and hopefully encouraging to others who love wildlife. Saw a big gopher snake down by the bridge this morning (SW Montana). We are very protective of “our” farm snakes.
I loved this video. Marissa as a little girl is about what I’d imagined, ball cap and all, running around catching stuff. Cool backstories from everyone, but it seems clear they’re all doing exactly what they’re meant for. A nice peek behind the scenes.
😂 I was little tomboy always playing in the dirt.
@@yupyupyup4444 Awwww... 🙂
Great idea for a video! Nice edit, Jeff. Cool to hear all the "How did I get here?" stories.
What a great topic. How many young herpetologists out there. Great job.
20:17 - Well, if that ain't fortuitous, then I don't know what is! XD
Thank you for the wonderful video.
I love Marissa, she's so sweet to all the danger noodles outside ❤
Thank you ☺️
That was so interesting to see you all have such a love for what you do, and that it developed from such a young age. Thank you for sharing your backstories. ❤
This was such a fun episode! I love all of the backstories. Thanks for sharing them.
Thanks for sharing how yall started in this profession. Glad there's people like you who can do this job. ❤
BEST RSS VIDEO EVERY (with the exception of any video with a Gila monster or 3).
I am old enough to be mom to most of you (including Bryan, if I'd been a relatively young mom ❤).
I grew up on Jacques Cousteau, Rachel Carson (kid's version of Silent Sea).
Was in the kids' Ecology Class, Saturdays at Caltech.
I am NOT smart enough to attend school there, even though I was encouraged to apply when I was in HS).
I did a summer school biology program when I was 13 or almost 14.
AM in regular HS summer school biology -- which I REALLY enjoyed -- got an A+.
Afternoons spent at Caltech, lab tours, different grad students & sometimes prof's, explaining their research.
Several hours every evening, studying biology for next days quiz in the HS class.
I was tired but very, very happy.
Wanted to be Jacques Cousteau.
Lacked resources & family support/help of any kind to pursue marine work.
So, continued to study hard in HS.
Full scholarship (including books, room & board) to 1st year at UC Santa Barbara.
Discovered experimental psychology.
Always loved sciences, animals of ALL kinds.
Plants, too, now that I think about it!
I SO LOVE the RSS Team!!!
Bryan, your creativity shines through in your work.
I admire you all so much.
I actually found a profession I was passionate about for 40 years.
Only retired early due to poor health.
Still am passionate about conservation, respecting Mother Earth -- participaed actively in the very first Earth Day.
Oh, my passion turned out to be. . . . mental health nursing !?!
Practiced 40 years as an RN.
Passed along love for the earth to our sons.
And we live in a semj-arid part of Southern California, neighborhood built in early 1960's. We are very blessed to live next door to permanent open space in the Simi Hills part of the Santa Monica Mountain Range.
Check out the world's largest wildlife crossing, the Annis Wallenberg (sp?) Wildlife Crossing, near Agoura, CA
Is well under way, all girders in place.
SO exciting!! A safe corridor over TEN freeway lanes!!!
Connects 2 key habitats!!!
Blessings, all!!
Gila Monsters Rule!
(The critters are all precious, though.)
DANG, Jeff, that's a LARGE snek!! Hoo whee!
Funny how he is mellow, while Marissa's gopher snake is a wannabe viper, ❤️
Great to hear so many people doing a job they love
The secret to life, I think. We can spend ~40 years being miserable, bitching and dreading the alarm in the morning, or we figure out a way to make a living doing what we love, don't get tired of or burned out on. This bunch seems to have, and that's awesome!
This was a perfect video for my daughter who loves snakes and loves to herp with me. She wants to be a herpetologist and while I can tell her how to do it, the message coming from someone else may have a bigger impact on her teenage brain.
That’s awesome we need more females in the field!!
Grumpy gopher snake 😮
That was a VERY grumpy gopher snake. I wonder what torqued him off?
@@LadyLithias Well, he was all comfy in that nice veranda seat 😆
This was such a great episode, and it was really cool to find out how all of you ended up here 😄
So many stories, so different, yet similar.
When I first saw this video I said "my Biology students are going to see this one". Our new school year has begun and on day 2 of Biology my students were given the question "How do you find your dream job?", followed by this video. 'Boots on the ground' made a distinct impression.
You're all so lucky to be able to work doing what you love!
I adore snakes.
I have a pet garter snake named Snek. I'm 68 years old and my Daughter in law thinks I'm nuts.
😁😁
Thank you guys! That was among your best videos ever. Telling these stories and providing us with an identity reference that definitely resonates with my childhood was PRICELESS!!! Rattlesnake Solutions are Rattlesnake rock stars! Thank you guys for what you do!
I love you guys! I was a kid who was always catching snakes and lizards and frogs and hung out in the herp lab in college. I loved all animals, and was a bio major. Fed the rattlesnake once, and she was poetry in motion. My best friend, who was another reptile enthusiast, went to work for the San Diego Zoo, and later became a ranger. Somehow, I ended up in tech, but I still love reptiles and nature in general, so your videos are a treat for me!
Great video ❤ This is very important work. If I were 45 years younger this would be my dream job. Shout out to Bryce; I’m from San Diego. I had a pet SD gopher snake for my first snake in 1964..10th birthday/get well gift from hospital.
I love this channel and hope it continues to grow in subscribers.
Thanks for the back stories
Love everyone’s back story ♥️😊
Love the history! Thanks for all you do.
This was very interesting. I loved hearing about how all of you got into catching snakes. Keep up the great work!
Marissa, It was great to hear you are from Buckeye, Arizona. I was recently out in the Phoenix metro area with my family to visit my sister and her family. We stopped in Buckeye to get a photo with the Buckeye, Arizona sign. I was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio and I'm a graduate of The Ohio State University. Go Buckeyes!
I imagine the snakes probably have more questions than the humans. 16:36
Just curious what does a rattlesnake relocator make? Whatever it is it’s not enough haha. Love the channel
Love seeing you guys when you were young. Great stories and best video on you guys. Great idea Jeff.
That's a good story Marissa, thank you for sharing 😊
Thank you. You’re welcome it was fun to make 😊
@@yupyupyup4444 it looks like it was fun to make, 😊
Marissa rescued the grumpiest gopher snake I have ever seen in these videos !! Hissing and striking. Most of the gopher snakes seem very chill compared to this one. He may have been taking a nap and Marissa woke him up !?!?
Wasn’t having it 😂 it liked that couch
Really great episode. Loved hearing your stories about your passion for reptiles.
That first snake was spicy 😮
So cool you get paid!
There's a snake wrangler in my area that's pure donations
I really enjoyed this video. Thank you!
Yay! That was the best episode ever - love the extra details of how you all got into this life!
Didn’t Jeff come from a channel named “catch it”? What a great video and then finding out how everybody got into this.
Yes sir I did! That’s also what lead to this channel starting as it is now.
Thank you for sharing your journey (all of you) ....I used to dislike snakes...now i totally respect them and let them be when i see them in trails, I get to see them every now and then when I'm in the field, i work for the local power company and south mountain is my area...from rattlers to Chuck wallas...they are pretty cool....Thank you for all the education you teach.
So great to hear!
I really enjoyed this episode, It's pretty cool of all of your guys passion of love for the reptiles. Thank You for sharing.
Everyone has a purpose of what we love to do as for a career. Mine was as a kid I loved trucks semi trucks especially logging & dump trucks. A+++ video!! Thanks for sharing your stories!!!
❤ your stories 👍🏻👍🏻
Great video!
This was so great!!!
Iam 50 now i have had a life long love affair with snakes since i was probably 5 or 6 was my summer job catching removing snakes in Indiana mainly copper heads but i gotta say when i found my first side winder it has been my favorite snake for 30 yrs now
You are the star of the show.
Okay, now I have to ask Marissa a question. She says she grew up in Buckeye. I have to ask if she went to BUHS? And When. Because she's always seemed super familiar to me, and my husband I both taught at BUHS from 2001 through 2015. I have to wonder if it's not just that she resembles someone I know, it could be that she took a class from me. I had snakes in my classroom until I was told that math teachers don't need pets in their classroom. Mrs. Kurfman!
I did go to BUHS! I graduated in 07. That’s so cool I wasn’t in your math class I was in Mrs. Nash but also wasn’t good at math so definitely wouldn’t of stood out there lol. I’m sure we did cross paths. Small world.
@@yupyupyup4444 Mrs. Nash and I had classrooms right next to one another. I was the fat teacher. :) That's cool that you know my old haunting grounds. My husband taught Science at BUHS also, Mr. Kurfman.
@@LadyLithias oh my gosh that’s so cool. I do remember seeing you. I have to bust out the old year book now. Buckeye was a fun places to grow up for sure.
@@yupyupyup4444 Absolutely it was. Finding ground snakes crawling around the school was step one in getting addicted to snakes. Now it's sheep, goats, and chickens. But I do have a lovely bull snake, and the cats bring home three or four snakes a year. Snakes are smarter than mice. They play dead, and the cats get bored. Then I relocate the snakes to the far side of the property. After watching this channel a bunch, I now take the snakes to the many packrat nests on our property, and let them go there. Our packrat nests are about 4 to 8 feet tall here in Oregon.
@@LadyLithias Oregon is quite the change from here but such a beautiful place as well. I’m sad I never saw any snakes at school lol. Happy you still get some cool snakes at your new place.
That was the spiciest gopher that I have ever seen.
Bryan, you didn't mention being lead guitarist in the band Rising Conviction.
what a rad video, been so wondering how this all started and how all the rad folks started working at Rattlesnake Solutions. If I was in Phoenix I'd intern and hope to get hired on!!
Awesome!!
1:00 That's a SPICY MEAT-A-BALL!
FIESTY Gopher!! Wonder if he was raised by Rattlesnakes 🤣😂
great video!
Wow! What a bratty gopher snake Marissa. Glad it didn’t bite you. lol
Nearly missed 😂
Gophers are so sick. I have a northern pine and he's WAY more chill than the average gopher or bull. But I love them, even when they're extra-spicy.
I've watched a lot of your videos. When you find a nice home for the snake in a pack rat nest, how do the pack rats feal about this?
Thanks!
Thank you so much!!
I hope they let you rinse your hands or wash them after the gopher snake slightly regurgitated on your hands.
As a 90s kid i also thought id grow up to be Eliza thornberry not realising her cool life was because of her parents and she was my age 😅
Yesss the Thornberrys another great show. I also wanted to be her lol
When are we going to get a video of the thrilling world of the fencing team..?
24:20 - Nice-lookin' cribo there!
That was a spicy Gopher snake
👍🙏
👍🏽❤️🐍
So, what was that gopher snakes type? It was nasty pissed?❤
That might have been the most grumpy gopher snake ive ever seen
Have any of been or close to being bitten by rattlers?
Poor snake, being in a bucket for 15 hours
