  • Few designers and makers have achieved the level of art, function and effectiveness of Bastinelli. Having designed many folders and fixed blade "tactical tools," Bastien Coves continues to be one of the most prolific forces in the knife world. This Rappto L fixed blade also appeared in the 2014 movie, "Lucy," in the hands of Scarlett Johansson. She terrorized the bad guys with a twin set of Bastinelli Raptor L blades!

    This is must get for me sometime. They upgraded the steel from D2 to M390. And it's just so damn unique! Bastien Coves knows his stuff! This and the Chopper are on my "To Get" list! Incidentally I love Fred Perrin's stuff too! I have a handmade Perrin combat Bowie.

      I love the chopper but can't spend $300 on a small fixed blade that I can live without

      If you like both Bastinelli and Fred Perrin take a look at the Harpy 😊

    Ergos are superb on this one, and that lovely long blade reaches out. Light and fast is the key! Can easily be adapted for carry inverted in a shoulder rig.

    I love this blade. I have a handful of bastinelli blades. I don't own one of these , but I have held it in hand before. Unfortunately, I don't have funds in the budget for a purchase. Love the review.

    I made an adjustable shoulder rig out of some paracord and a toggle. Tie a knot roughly halfway in a length of folded paracord and put the toggle at the end to make a figure eight and use the toggle to adjust the tension. You’ll probably have to move the knots position to your size also. Then get some more cord to attach the top of the sheath to your belt or use the sheath belt loop if it works. Worked well, it’s cheap and universal.

      Similar to what I put together years ago, that you really only need a large loop that goes under one arm and over the shoulder of the other and down the chest and secure on the belt and you have a stellar rig on the cheap! 👍🗡️👊

    Bastien often uses convex grind on his custom knives. Nice to see Lionsteel adapted it for this blade.

    My raptor has a taco kydex sheath. i wonder if this one you bought from ebay was a custom order from Bastien with the covex edge

    • @OGBladeReviews
      @OGBladeReviews  ปีที่แล้ว

      No, this didn't come from eBay. It was from Knifecenter. I did buy the Red V2 from eBay, however. And looking at my Bastinelli collection, the only two with convex edges are the Raptor L and a newly acquired Assaucalypse Compact. Sheaths seem to be a mix of taco and two piece.

    The screws have torx in the middle of it,the rest is just bling or flare;-)) lots of outdoors knives have a convex edge or a full convex grind. The European sword also have a convex edge,but are usally called a apple seed edge and cuts better than a katana because the katana is very thick in the blade. It only cuts that good because of the stifness. But many European swords are also quite stiff but just as sharp.

    Such a cool knife! Still think a tougher steel would suit it considering it's meant for impact. Steels like 3V, 4V, Cruwear, etc. But honestly who really uses it like that 🤣

    • @OGBladeReviews
      @OGBladeReviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Consider that tactical knives are "meat cutters," in essence. A tough knife steel is one that is going to be encountering cutting substances like wood, rope, plastics and maybe leather. M390 has some very good characteristics and I'm going to copy paste from knife steels composition below at the risk of creating a very long reply, so forgive me for that in advance! 😆
      M390 - Bohler-Uddeholm martensitic Chromium steel, made using their 3rd generation PM process. M390 features very high wear and corrosion resistance. Fine grained alloy, popular choice for high end folders and small fixed blades. working hardness up to 62HRC. Excellent performance with both, coarse and high polished edges. You still need about 15° per side edge to get the best performance and edge holding. Thinner than that, and you will run into the issue with the thin edge not being able to support all those carbides to make the edge perform. Working hardness can reach 62HRC, and most of the production knives I've seen are in 60-62HRC range. Overall, it is of the best performers as far as corrosion and wear resistance go, and because of that it is a popular choice for high end, and the limited edition knives. Aside from very good edge holding ability, maintaining the edge is very easy. And one more thing worth noticing, there's no stubborn burr forming during sharpening, therefore, there's no risk to form a wire edge either.

      @@OGBladeReviews I was thinking of tougher steels for when it hits bone 😅

    • @OGBladeReviews
      @OGBladeReviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah any steel can ship on bone, in the end it's all hypothetical. In a real encounter by that time things will be decided one way or the other... 😎🗡️👍

      @@OGBladeReviews Bastien told me that he peronally prefers carbon steel, but people want the latest steel, so for the knives to sell. He needs to use these kinds of steel. They also wanted no marks or patina on the blades,because most people dont like that today and most just collects them, so no signs of age is what people want.The toughness in many carbon steels are fantastic,they really can take a beating,that is also the reason for using them in swords,bowies,kukris etc. The 5160 springsteel1070 to 1095 the ball bering steel is fantastic and i have a knife on the table that are made by the Russian, Wolf Age, it's a Wharncliffe knife made in the exelent PGK steel. It holds 63HRC and are tougher than 3v, even at 63HRC . So nothing wrong with high carbon steels, and nothing wrong with m390. I was just making a point for the good old hc steels.

    The original Bowie Knife was a butcher knife.
