Except it's in my head now. Seriously, I embarrassed myself recently at my favorite Mexican grocery store when I saw the huge jackfruit for sale. Another lady was laughing at it, and I started singing the "Fruity fruity FRUIT!" song before I could stop myself. Then there was like 4-5 of us standing around, laughing at fruit! Yeah, those folks are probably still talking about this weird lady. I wanted to explain dear Emmy to them, but I felt silly enough!

We don't eat gac by itself, we make a dish called xoi gac, which is basically sticky rice wih gac as the main ingredient. I never actually had gac by itself, but xoi gac is sweet and has a coconut taste because they do add sugar and coconut juice while cooking the rice.

Hey Emmy! You should try out a balsam apple! You can also find them by searching Momordica balsamina. I used to live in Haiti for a few years and these things grew in our yard. This baby jackfruit reminds me of a giant version of the balsam apple. The balsam apple is a small little spiky looking orange fruit, when you open it, it just has a bunch of little seeds which are coated with a soft and mushy membrane which is colored bright red. It's almost exactly like the baby jack fruit, just much smaller! If you've ever had a balsam apple before, or if you'd be willing to try one out in a new video, I'd be happy to hear if they're similar in taste or texture!

Emmy, you are the only person that I'll watch do any kind of food or fruit reviews and that's only because you always give such accurate reviews. You're not like other people who drastically over exaggerate and by the time you're done watching the other people's reviews, you still have absolutely no idea what it tastes like or how it is. But with you, you give such great reviews, you describe the taste, texture, flavor and just everything about it. You never over exaggerate your reviews and you describe it so well, I feel like I just ate it with you. My point is is that you are so great at doing these kinds of reviews and I genuinely enjoy watching you. Also, how you say at the end of every video that I hope you guys learned something, Emmy, I always do learn something new because not only do you do a review of what you're eating but you also give the history of it and tell us where it came from and give us a bit of back story about whatever you may be reviewing that day. But I really enjoy watching your videos. You are such a great and positive person and your positivity is incredibly infectious and contagious. But yeah, thank you for always teaching us something new and doing such great reviews that I feel like I've just got done tasting it with you. You're a very special person Emmy and please don't ever change. We definitely need more people like you here on TH-cam and besides your positivity, you are incredibly honest too and I really admire that and appreciate that about you. The fruit is not often eaten on its own, at least not that I’m familiar with. It’s usually used to make sticky rice, called Xôi gấc. It’s literally everywhere here in Vietnam but personally, since I was a kid, I’ve never been the biggest fan of it.

I’m Vietnamese-American and have never heard of this fruit! According to my mom, not too many people actually eat the fruit but the seeds are used as a kind of natural food coloring. Very interesting indeed
Edit: I should mention that it is normally used to color something called Xoi, which is a colorful sticky rice dish.

I've been to Vietnam many times and have never seen one of those. "Qua" is the classifier in Vietnamese for fruit. It is better known as trái gấc in Vietnam. Gấc is the name of the fruit. It is pronounced as guc with a "u" sound and not an "a". It is touted to have great medicinal properties. From a Vietnamese website:
In addition to providing good eye care, cancer prevention, go to the kitchen to prepare delicious food from the gac you!
    1. Gac tea is delicious
    2. Gac steamed sweet sweet aroma cool
    3. Gac Xoi delicious (xoi is sticky rice)
    4. Stir fried gac
    5. Beef Gac (I am sure it is gac stir fried with beef)

Ok, after watching about 10 of your videos, I find myself with a couple questions:
    1) Have you ever gotten a negative digestive reaction from tasting all of those different foods? (I hope you liked how delicately I worded that.)
    2) What is the absolute worst item you've tasted?
Btw, if I pay $50-55 for a piece of fruit, they had better not THINK of putting a dented fruit in the box!

    • @winniekhongkp
