  • Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death in people, but primary lung cancer is less common in dogs and cats. More commonly, we see cancer that has spread to the lungs, or metastatic cancer.
In this vlog on primary lung cancer, Dr Sue covers:
✔️ Symptoms, and why it is better to find this cancer before your dog shows symptoms
✔️ Why routine chest X-rays can be so important in early detection
✔️ Treatment, including surgery and chemotherapy
    ✔️Prognosis

My dog Snoopy has cancer all in his lungs and stomach we can't afford chemo so we give him prednisone CBD oil and turkey tail which helps shrink cancer cells. I'm 14 and I'm beyond devastated. He's been my childhood dog always there for me when I cried he's always been by me and laying in my arms. He's never needed to be trained. He's a rat Terrier and probably the sweetest dog I've ever met, he's an angel. I know he will be safe in heaven though and I will get to see him when my time comes. :)

We just found out that our 18 year-old boxer mix has lung cancer. Our Batman is given Prednisone and Hydrocodone/homatropine for his cough. We don’t know how long he will last. He doesn’t seem to have slowed down significantly before we went to the doctor so I pray he will have at least another year with us till it’s time for him to cross the rainbow. It will be very hard for us to let go when it’s going to be his time. He’s a very loving, sensitive, happy doggie and he will forever be part of our family tree and history. Be well everyone. God bless you all. ❤

My 11 yo dachshund was diagnosed bronchoalveolar adenocarcinoma in May 2018. He had lobectomy and chemotherapy afterward. His cancer visibly came back on radiographs in July 2019. We tried chemos again which had mixed response. He is now end stage and don't have much options available. I wish he had radiographs taken as a part of annual examination. His tumor was 10cm, but he had no obvious clinical signs. Since lung cancer in dogs are not common, I didn't think it will come up as a topic. Thank you so much for making this video. Interesting. I have a 13 yr old Golden retriever. Never had any health issues. Maybe an ear infection or 2- one hot spot. He started having trouble getting up on our floors. Not too much trouble on the carpet areas. Then he had trouble getting up the steps in our pool. I got him a cortisone shot. The next day his legs went out from under him and he fell. Found a holistic vet that did laser treatments. She took an xray. He has alittle arthritis but found 3 masses in his lungs. I had no clue.. Never coughed, always ate good. No signs what so ever. She did some chiropractic and sanawave and rectal inufflation, and the last 2 days he can barly walk now. We have to use 2 slings. It's unreal how fast he has gone down hill. :(
We aren't doing chemo at his age. Keeping him comfortable until it's time..This is hard.

My 13 year old schnauzer had dental extractions in late October and has not been the same since the surgery. He developed broncopneumonia immediately after the procedure...we rushed him to the ER in mid November only to find out he has primary lung cancer (carcinoma). I'm so angry with myself for allowing him to undergo a major surgery and was not told he had cancer in Oct. After a battery of tests he was approved for the surgery....having cancer! I'm angry and feel the vet should have known this. If I'd known I would have addressed the cancer first and determine dental extractions if it was necessary. $3K later I get back a sick dog. Unbelievable!

I found out a week ago today that my giant dog has a lung tumor. I wish I had seen this a year ago, even a month ago. i thought in the beginning that it was allergies. I even took her to the vet. He never once said that she should be getting regular x-rays and ultrasounds. Why didn't I know??? I made an appointment with an internal medicine doctor and the closest appointment is in 10 days. The problem is, I don't know if she can wait that long. And that's just for one appointment and not with an internal medicine doctor, not an oncologist. And my vet won't do thoracocentesis and in the meantime. They say I need to get an internal medicine doctor to do it, but that's the point- I can't get an earlier appointment. She has fluid outside of her lungs and is having such a hard time breathing. I would feel better about making a decision (even the one that I don't want to do) if i could just talk to someone or we had a plan. Nobody seems to care and I honestly don't know if she will be here with me in a week from now. She also has severe hip dysplasia and can't take anti inflammatories while she's on a steroid, and because of that, she is stumbling & falling, and can't defecate because getting in that position is too painful. I want to do right by her, but i don't want to just give up (and what if it's due to sleep deprivation and once I am well rested, i totally regret putting her down and the guilt eats me alive? I barely sleep anymore because I refuse to leave her alone.) I wish I wasn't so alone and I wish I had people to help me and resources. I feel like such a failure and my girl doesn't deserve to feel this kind of pain and struggle to breathe.

It does happen that vets miss things that you think they shouldn't. I had 3 visits at my vet and two boardings stays there in an eight weeks period. This was while Lizzy was showing signs of lung cancer. To make it short 1 visit and x-rays at another vet, we had the answer. I'm now trying to make her remaining time the best it can be. Can I send you a picture of my beautiful babygirl who I had to put down? I saw the film but I'm not a doctor. He said her lungs were full of cancer. She did have a malignant melanoma last year on her foot which was huge but removed. It came back later smaller, had it removed again. Coughing last couple months, had another dog coughing so assumed it was kennel cough. Bad Sunday night so took her in, got x-rays and he came in saying he didn't need to do labs because her cancer was so bad. I am getting a picture of it today. Wife is a nurse so she will look at it as well. But through this I am now having weird thoughts go through my head if was wrong or if he may have misdiagnosed her. Day three of the worst day of my life...she was a thirteen year old chocolate lab...love of my life.

With no other test I put my dog down Less than 30 minutes after X-ray I kept telling them all the time she just had a cold with big old green boogers in her eyes And was tired From the beginning they kept saying give her this medication with food and I always said she will not eat. What strikes me is a condition our chickens had when they were on conventional feed....massive breast tumors on one side and balance issues and this was corrected by changing over to organic non-gmo feed. So his tumors may have been food induced. He had a bad habit of eating cayote dung which we could not control. Are any studies out there on feed vs cancer frequencies...?

My senior doggo was diagnosed with osteosarcoma of his femur in May and we amputated the leg in June. We chose not to do chemo because of his age and a few other reasons, and he's now showing signs of probable lung mets. (Coughing, mostly, slightly labored breathing, and a bit of fatigue.) My question is that since we're really just looking to keep his quality of life good for his final months/weeks, is this the kind of cancer where he may just pass away in his sleep or will he become painful and need to be euthanized?

My baby is between 13 and 17 years old. She's a beautiful chihuahua. She had a nodule on her belly when we got it it was small.. She got doggie sick and we took her to the vet > pointed out the nodule but he didn't say anything about it. but to let him know if it gets larger. The next time she went in her nodule is a little bigger but he said nothing other than keep an eye on it and let him know if it gets bigger. We took her in when she was in an accident with a bicycle. Again I pointed out the size of the nodule They gave her a couple of x to check for broken bones. She cam,e out fine, she was just in shock. They said nothing about the module. A couple of days later because of the covid19 we had a video call with the vet. She talked about everything about what could have happened and very quietly that she had lung cancer I then pointed out that the nodule was about the size of a silver dollar. she said nothing . except that she had three months to a year I freaked out. Then she started coughing really bad and wasn't eating. She never told us what to expect any treatment options or how much therapy I'M gonna need. And pretty much left us hanging with so many unanswered questions. its been almost four months now. Her cough got so bad that we were at wits end and her appetiite was not there. A friend recommended cbd oil for dogs and we started that a few days ago. Her cough has improved dramatically, she seems more alert and her appetite is slowly coming back. She likes to be carried more when we walk but that's ok with me. But, I'm afraid this moment in time isn't gonna last forever as we don't know ANYTHING about what stage she's in how far it has progressed , or what to look for when its time just don't know what to do
Any advice would be for ever grateful to us. She's my best friend and I don't know what to do. They didn't even discuss treatments for her just hung us out to dry

The only struggle is veterinarian care so expensive now that people can't even afford to take their pets to the vet when you have serious conditions like this it's so sad I'm struggling myself with coming up with money for my dog's surgery he has cancer on his leg and he needs a second operation then they want like $100 a piece for chest x-rays and he needs three of those plus blood work + 65.00 for a vet check up how do people afford this to do this😢 it's just absolutely insane

I have a question I had an 8 year old pomchi and she has always been healthy and I get her checked every year and get shots. She all the sudden she had a bumb on her jaw that I took her to the vet and she said it was an abcess and started on antibiotics 3 days later bad labored breathing take her back to vet and the vet called and said she had lung cancer and died within mins of finding out. Should the vet had heard something in her chest at either or both visits I'm just heart broken. She has seen her 3x this year.

Difficult decision - what about canines with co-morbidities such as heart failure? My baby recently got diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension secondary to his heart failure and now primary adenocarinoma. There is so much info in social but each case is unique. Looking into holistic and palliative methodologies. How to weigh risk and benefit with your own pup? Our hearts are broken.

Definitely the foods, a lot of GMO by product, and filler. The shit that they're putting into these environments-spraying pesticides, and other the placement of chemicals, and other radioactive elements in our environments. I would even argue the vaccines as well. There's some shit going on, and the medical establishment for both humans and animals, is not being upfront about it.

Our 13 year old Pug's 1st symptom was a 30 second seizure that was a really bad. Pugs cough all the time anyway with the bronchial issues, se we didn't notice any coughing. All bloodwork, urine and stool analysis came back normal. He had 2 minor seizures this past weekend, and today he was diagnosed with lung cancer and given 1 month to live. Too many nodules. Too old for chemo. We are looking for anything to make 1 month alot longer :(. Heartbroken.

Have you tried golden paste, it a super food to fight against cancer and you can buy it online or it's super easy to make. You can find the recipe online. My 11 year old English bull terrier was diagnosed with lung cancer in March it had spread to her liver and her spleen, and was inoperable. I have changed her diet completely to a low carb high meat protein diet. Chicken mixed with cancer fighting vegetables such as peppers,Broccoli, sprouts and Cabbage. Other lean meats can be used to give some variety. My dog is also on life gold which has fantastic review. It's a cancer support product to help the lymphatic and immune system. My dog is still with us 6 months later and hasn't shown any deterioration, so somethings working. Hope this helps
