I think this also really emphasizes the need for defense from the guards. We might see increased minutes from CJ & Gicarri. Gicarri gonna be a 18-20 minute guy already this year, CJ was probably gonna be a 12 minute guy… they might both play 16-20 now
It’s terrible this happened to Daniel and hope for a speedy recovery. In terms of the team aspect of this moving forward, the gap between starter and backups is the smallest at this position of any position on the team however, in terms of where players are at right now. Painter has said over and over that “no one has separated” at the position. He had separated in terms of scoring to be fair. Nothing changes in terms of goals for team.
Illini fan here, I have issues with Purdue fans but you never want to see a player hurt. Wishing the best for this young man including a full recovery .
Our fans are more classy than the Illini fans and so is our team year after year so you can leave that out of you statement next time! Best of luck to Jacobsen
@ Texas A&M this year Furst got 2 min. In 2 min he went 1-1 for 2 pts and had 1 block (which led to a Hockey assist to Colvin’s highlight dunk of the game). In the loss to 16 seed FDU Furst only got 9 mins in which he went 2-2 for 4 pts and had 2 rebounds. Vs Northen KY last game he went 4-6 for 8 pts and had 2 rebounds in only 12 min. He simply hasn’t gotten enough minutes since that FDU loss due to Edey and TKR but I think he is the best option with TKR in the front court. He is a beast from a rebounding standpoint and had a lot of momentum offensively when Painter was playing him prior to last season.
@@tkamel18 You are delusional. Against B10 competition the last two years Furst was completely dominated every time he stepped on the floor. He is soft, and has no business playing Forward in the B10
@ disagree. Jacobsen would have even been worse vs B1G competition this year. He’s not ready and Furst is. Furst not only dominated against B1G sometimes but he was the reason we beat Duke a few years ago. You’re the delusional one. Jacobsen was not ready this year being built like McLovin and hence only lasted 2 games.
@ don’t forget Caleb Furst was Mr. Basketball in Indiana. He had 6 pts and 5 rebounds in 14 minutes vs OSU on 3/11/2023…that’s the last B1G game where he got more than 12 minutes. Thats a double double if he gets 28 minutes and produces the same. Numbers don’t lie.
As a Purdue fan my view is the team is a year away from possibly making another run. So getting Jacobson back healthy next year will be key. On a positive is they get to redshirt him. This is not really a leg issue he broke the tibia in his leg.
Feel for Jacobson but hopefully Furst gets more run now. We’ve looked very good in the limited mins with Furst and TKR in the front court. The best lineup is Smith Loyer Colvin Furst TKR. That’s 4 Indiana Mr. Basketballs and a top 65 recruit together. Break the press with passing.
IMO the best starting lineups for Purdue at this point are Smith, Loyer, Colvin/Harris/Cox, TKR, Furst or Smith, Loyer, Harris/Colvin/Cox, Heide, TKR the 3 spot for these lineups is pretty flexible and who would be the best start depends on the opponent, but I think Colvin would be the best fit most of the time.
Neubert from Gold and black asked painter directly about having to play TKR more at the 5 and he said most definitely. Purdue is good on offense that way but defense is better with more rim protection
The problem with Caleb (and it is OBVIOUSLY NOT his fault) is he needs to be about 3-4 inches taller. Too much size in the B1G to start 6'10", 6'9" and 3 guards. And with a FUrst/TKR front line there is NO rim protection.
Carter do not ever speak on Raleigh Burgess again. He’s the best 3 pt shooter on the team over 6’9 by a LONGSHOT. His jumper is beautiful and he can really do anything on offense, and at 6’11 he can very much protect the paint. He’s a freshman, he’ll learn and he’ll be really good.
@@AngryBoilerFan I’m trying to support your anger here but “he can pretty much do anything on offense” for a true freshman with a total of 4pts and two turn overs to his name in his college career is a claim I cannot co-sign .
I’m predicting that they finish somewhere between 6-9 in conference. Yes they have a great backcourt however their frontline will get destroyed in the Big. If they aren’t hitting threes then it could get ugly. Also teams are game prepping for Smith and Loyer. Mount Edey being gone will hurt. Tourney team…yes but 1st weekend exit is very possible. Great coach though. Probably best in Big. That’s what gets them in tourney.
@@franknorton8168 absolutely possible they could finish that low, however Illinois last year battled for 1st place starting Coleman Hawkins at the 5 (6’10). If smith and loyer continue to play the way they have and TKR Heide and Colvin can rebound better, we have a shot at winning it again
Could be blessing in disguise for Jacobson. He gets a year to learn the game from Painter. And he gets a year to improve is size. Hurts this years team but could be huge for the future.
Can we not pretend like Purdue has nothing besides Braden? Fletcher is playing great and so is TKR. You have legit big 3. You need to find guys to play supporting roles, but you don’t need someone to step up as a star.
@@PeeedaPanok bud. They’re a little 3 that started every game last season on a team that made it to the national title. One is the pre-season POY in the big ten. Their starting back court has started every game together for their entire careers with a record of 65-11. Watch them still win the Big Ten, because this league doesn’t have any truly elite teams. I won’t be a bit surprised to see them win it again. They’re still the favorite across all sportsbooks to win this conference.
Can you guys just rename this podcast to Overreaction Media already? Ya'll blow everything so far out of proportion. It's ridiculous. First, you love Jacobsen during the Olympic games. Then you tear him down during scrimmages. Then you hype him back up to God status when he gets injured. And let's not even touch on the fact that you two think Purdue should be in February form in the first game of the season after bringing 5 freshmen. The whole doom-and-gloom thing from both of you is getting old.
Purdue will be just fine yes it is sad that Daniel Jacobson got hurt, but this will give him time to gain some weight. Get the weight room recovered and be stronger for next year and have a full four years eligibility. Riley Burgess is going to be a stud just like Jacobson is going to be a two head monster just be patient it’ll work out.
Kaufman-Renn, Furst, Berg & Burgess will have to be good as a collective for Purdue to be good this year

Thankfully Raleigh didn’t redshirt, we’re gonna need him. Think Berg will get the nod initially but Burgess overtakes him soon I bet.
Redshirt can easily be pulled, there was no scenario where Burgess wouldn't be available if needed.
