      Hey Shank, I see Alberta plate on your trailer. I am wondering if you had any trouble registering it. If you bought it as a utility trailer and built it into camping trailer did you have to re-register the trailer for different purposes? I am thinking to do similar built and friend of mine told me to get in touch with transport canada. Any advise from you would be greatly appreciated. Regards from YYC

    Super setup! Did you consider using Aluminum checker plate sheets instead of plywood? Would have been lighter and stronger? Also is 5 feet Width impractical for off-road use?
    What's the height of the setup in inches?

      Thanks for reaching out, I cant send you any photos through youtube. If you watch my other video (will the raptor line last) you will see the support lifts close with inside the hatch door way, the door then seal against the inner door jam. For water tight seal the black door trim has D-shaped rubber seal that seals against the outer wall around the door way.

    That is a cool build. How did you figure out the footprint that you wanted the trailer to be?

    • @ShankOutdoors
      @ShankOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you! I started with researching other trailers. I then drew up a design on CAD 3D software. Once I had the outside planned I had then drawn multiple layouts inside. Once the walls were up I could visually see more of how i could build and went on from there.

    Sweet build man. How did the raptor liner go over the bare plywood? Im building a larger tourer style square drop/camper/caravan, ie 8'x12'.

    • @ShankOutdoors
      @ShankOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! Sorry I am a little confused by your question.. before applying the raptor liner I sanded down the plywood with 120grit sand paper then I sealed the edges with epoxy overlapping the edge by 2".
      Make sure you order enough raptor liner to spray multiple coats. With following the recommended dry time between layers, I was very impressed on how well the first layer of raptor liner stuck to the sanded plywood.
      The kit I purchased came with its own spray gun, I miss calculated how much I needed and had to order more. In the end I used 10 - 711ML jugs of raptor liner.
      Sounds like you'll have a nice build! Are you posting your progress anywhere? With that size of trailer I would recommend ordering a minimum 4 x 4L kits of raptor liner.

    • @kaosbuilt541
      @kaosbuilt541 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ShankOutdoors Hey mate, sorry for the confusion... Im Australian 😀 Did you use a primer under the RL (raptor liner.) Did the plywood draw moisture out of the RL once it was sprayed. I've only done a durability test with it on an ATV rack 6 months ago, so I haven't seen how the RL reacts to a porous surface, like ply. Can you see a difference in the coating between the sanded ply and the epoxy?
      Not posting progress anywhere. I've got so many projects happening, uf i spent the time filming it all I'd never get anything done. Thats why i really appreciate guys like you, who will take the time to share their knowledge with the masses. Cheers

      @@ShankOutdoors What you said about the coverage with the raptor liner, I found out the hard way when spraying the front and rear racks on my quad bike. Ran out of product halfway through the job and had to make a run to buy more, all the while hoping I didn't go too far over the flash time for the coating. It was only a test run so I was using the spray can version rather than the bottles.

    • @ShankOutdoors
      @ShankOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      All good man! No I did not use primer under the RL. With lost of research and wanting to keep this build on a budget, I decided to call RL in Ontario and ask them myself. The rep I spoke to told me as long as I sealed the edges, sanded the plywood and applied a good coating of RL I wouldn't have any issues. So far the trailer has seen +20C and down to -30C temperatures with rain and snow mixed in. No you cant see a difference it all looks the same rugged white texture. I have not dealt with the spray can version but my guess the bottle version is 10x better as it is spraying thick when using airgun. I even had a section of black rock guard along the bottom edge and the white RL covered it no problem.
      Thank you for appreciating the work of filming DIY projects. Yes it is a lot of work on top of the actual build. Cheers

    Hello, I am looking into building a squaredrop and I’m trying to research the best way to do the exterior (raptor liner, aluminum siding, fiberglass, etc.) I’m leaning more towards raptor liner but I’m wondering how well it will last long term with the wood expanding and contracting with the weather. How is yours holding up? What are your thoughts?

      Thanks Dustin! I have a rough estimate on cost, I originally wanted the build to be under $3k CAD. However getting into the build I realized I may need to spend more. So I know I'm above the original budget of $3k. I will be going through my box of receipts and getting an exact cost break down.

      @ShankOutdoors Words can't express how awesome you videos are. The depth & detail you provided for your build is amazing. (I am also VERY interested what the total cost of your build was. Doesn't even have to be exact for me. A rough ballpark estimate would be more than OK until you have the time to for a more detailed review.) I am looking into whether or not I want to do a similar build, but cost is the determining factor on my end. Much appreciated!

    6:05 Why do you suppose most RV have this kind of door handle and why is it not common to use the same door knob/handle that is common on people's house?

    • @ShankOutdoors
      @ShankOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say because of the flush design, not having a handle stick out to hit something, also these handles have weather stripping where house hold knobs do not. At the end of the day i would say its more for the sleek, flush look. Older RC trailers had house hold door knobs for years. Also these RV door Latches have a deadbolt.
