4K RETIREMENT OF A66 V/Line - The Last down service to Bacchus Marsh at Melton

- English - It's the end of an era again for V/Line Passenger as the much loved A Class Locomotive is officially retired (for the third time, the first time was back in 2013). There's plenty of speculation about the diesel locomotives future so until anything is confirmed, we can only assume it's being stored.
A66 entered service in March 1985 and is the last V/Line A Class in regular passenger service. The A class was a rebuild from the original Victorian Railways B Class. V/Lines other A class locos A60 A62 and A70 were all stored back in 2013.
Here is A66 on it's regular afternoon service from Melbourne Southern Cross to Bacchus Marsh. The train is seen pulling into Melton on it's last service to Bacchus Marsh 23rd August 2018. Tomorrow morning it makes it's final return run from Bacchus Marsh to Melbourne.
A66 is the oldest Bulldog Streamliner Locomotive in the world still running a regular rostered passenger service.

I used to crew that from time to time (Fireman/Driver) in the 80's....
Old A66 is almost the "Nellie Melba" of diesel locos! LOL
I intended to farewell this fabulous workhorse with me two RS-5Ts, but it didn't strike me that this afternoon was the last run to Bacchus. I don't think it'll be such a brilliant idea to wake the locals tomorrow on the return with all the noise.
Probably not.

Does that mean it's going to go to Steamrail or is it officially retired or is V/line giving it an overhaul?

It is not the last run it’s being repainted into ptv
that is very interesting hopefully not the horrible violet crumble colours if it happens i prefer fa green and gold or VR blue and gold or vline tangerine colors and any news on what's going to happen to the ex fa locos and v/line A class in storage. oh by the way don't forget 707s trip with A66 and R707 is coming up this weekend
Let's wait and see. That's all speculation at the moment.
