I'm a art cinema lover & i always feel bad because,the art cinemas & its actors, acting brilliance is rarely being watched by many ppl for many years. only a small sections of our society is watching art cinema even today! .i accept, the issues& the treatment of such films r bit complicated for average peoples to understand
who look up to cinema, as a commodity,& who believe that cinema should be watched for pure entertainment purpose& it should necessarily have humour, sex,thriller kind of spicy elements. but sometime what is more disheartening for me is the fact, when even, intelluctal people fail to understand art cinema😢
konkona, is an finest actress,v have today,& i really admire her for her acting caliber,&she truely,is following the legacy forword. thanks to TH-cam, i could watch all satyajeet ray,shyam Bengal's ritwik Ghatak films ,which r made by pioneers of art cinema in early 70's or even earlier. latter that legacy was continued by critically acclaimed film makers like, Gulzarji,
aprna sen,mrunal sen,mira nair, deepa mehta who delivered the best art films. in todays time, vishal bhardwaj, anuraj Kashyap, r also in this League. i must say that slowly people are realizing that theirs r many other things for which, a film should be viewed.slowly I'm seeing the change in mindsets. art fims r still facing many hurdles due to lack of funding but may be someday, i hope,
corporate funding House's will come forward with the funding & rejuvenate this dying genre of Indian cinema.

Satyajit Ray's film were always big hits and had huge audience ,if a film is not attracting an audience,it is the failure of the film not the audience and there exists no arthouse film or mainstream films,these terminologies are pure hypocrisy,what really stands out is a good film and a bad film,PERIOD
Genuine actors do not get the attention they deserve... Those pretending to be actors get the focus, thanks to a hopeless media

Like her Mom she is also genius and gorgeous beauty. A Bengali woman changed completely as Meenakshi Iyer girl during that film of 6 months.❤.You adopted to Tamil brahmin accent way of speaking and in dressing.

Manthan was not surreal pleaseeee !! Dont please name drop without understanding. Manthan was very real almost like a documentary.
Her first film was "Pikoo" by Satyajit Ray. She acted as a boy there. But she mentioned it as "Indira".
No that was Arjun Guhathakurta. And Konkona was born in December 1979. She would have been too young to play Pikoo.

around 42:00 minutes a person asks that Bengali movies are tear jerking and hindi movies are surreal.....as it is ray memorial lecture....I would say please see 'adversary', 'nayak', 'middleman', 'goopy gyne bagh byne' which can not be characterized 'tear jerking'......and lastly surrealism in bollywood!!!! surrealism is the creative potential of the unconscious mind which appears to be irrational....in that sense I can not think of one!!!... love or romance of two people expressed by a song shot in Switzerland, new-york , Japan, london do not make surrealism!!!!! it is escapism or may be pleasure-seeking experiences targeted to the audience for the purpose of sheer entertainment, or may be traditional rules (say a big starter movie, at least 6-8 songs and lets start the shooting of songs before writing the script)....but whether they are qualified to be attributed as art-forms (or in line with tha avant-garde movement like surrealism)...I doubt it!!!
Bollywood ekta "goru" industry...India only falls for the international market through regional films... And Americans, French and Germans will make dozens of masterpieces.. and Bollywood will continue making mediocre and "gobet" films.
