The title of the story gives the meaning of the story beautifully.. .. Nayantaras necklace. Alka was impressed by the lifestyle of Nayantara and she wore her necklace as well as her lifestyle w/o realising the truth behind it. Sometimes we are so impressed/affected by the others lifestyle that we forget that everyone is unique and two lives cannot be compared. Did u see the meeting between girish n alka. She was mimicking the exact same lines nayantara told her... She was not only wearing the necklace but actually the life of nayantara as well without realizing that no one is perfect and reality might be different than what it seems. When she saw the reality (the death, the truth of financial condition). She realised that she was living in a dream world and as a gesture to come back to her actual life as alka, she removed the necklace and left it.
agreed, but the main theme music of this short film is greatly similar to the theme music of Kanchenjunga, movie by Satyajit Ray. I'm not necessarily accusing that it's been copied but if the music director consciously influenced by that great theme music by Ray, he should have acknowledged him. Certainly many people who watched Kanchenjunga would find it and understand the great similarity.
This short film is a great lesson for us to learn that we should always be happy with whatever we have. Nobody and nothing in this world is perfect and we should never try to change that. No matter how much we try to gain something, we will always end up losing something. Happiness is not in material things, it's inside us. All we have to do is be realistic and look within ourselves. If we are content with ourselves, then we will always be happy!

Unable to find it she brought a same looking piece from the company and gave it to her friend. She and her husband had to pay a high price for the necklace and in order to overcome debts 10 years passed . Finally after 10 years Mademoiselle met that friend and told that how she managed to return her the necklace after so much struggle. The friend replied THE NECKLACE WAS JUST A PASTE !!
Things I noticed when watching the movie a second time to grapple with my emotions after figuring out what really happens in the story: 1. Nayantara never lights the cigarette, she only allows it to dangle casually between her fingers 2. Nayantara never really answers the questions that Alka asks her; she smartly avoids all of them 3. When her husband asks Nayantara if she has received any call from the bank, she chooses not to answer him in front of Alka 4. Someone as rich as Nayantara posits she is uses a hand fan in the car instead of air conditioning to cool off 5. Why does Nayantara need the dhobi's number? No washing machine? 6. Nayantara has a mask hanging from the rear view mirror of her car 7. Alka begins to lie to Nayantara and eventually becomes Nayantara in front of Girish :( The masks take time to come off but the clues are all there in the story. Edit: Thank you everyone! Being rich is not bad, wishing to have a luxurious life is not bad but making your life and someone else’s life because of all this cruelty. I know some people who left their real house and started living on rented house to show off. I think they made their life miserable instead.
Nayantara: "Wine mein kya hota hai? Nashaaaa...... Aur Nashe mein kya hota hai? Alka: " Mmmm..." Nayantara: "Nashe mein hota hai Romance!" Great meaning is hidden in these lines, in Nayantara's idea of what "romance" is...
Nayantara's cover up line when questioned by Alka that why did she chose to return to India after having lived a lavish life in Dubai, " I don't want to live as a second citizen ..... " The pressures and perils of a hollow existence ... and maintaining the pretenses of affluence .... All culminating at the end to give out a strong message!! Superb performance by Tilottama who outshines Konkona Sen.
In the last scene, Alka was so lost in her lies and her fake character that she said Disney Land is Samar's choice whereas Alka's son is Dheeraj and Samar is Nayantara's son
Since the beginning of this Short film I was Thinking that i have seen this Girl the actress playing Alka somewhere Before But Couldn't Recall...Then After reaching at 13:00 tge Saloon Scene I remember that Oh it's the same Actress who played a School Admission Councillor in Film HINDI MEDIUM.... Oh god This Getup and Dressing change a Person so much that they look Unrecognizable....
+pamolina choudhary I think they represented a stale lifestyle, which no longer inspired her. it was a symbol of gaiety that she longer enjoyed. because in one frame with these objects, she is shown perturbed !
+pamolina choudhary it appeared to me the life she enjoyed in Dubai whic she still yearns it. Cup cakes, kitty parties, art galleries - the glitzy posh life.
Girish's mention of cooker's whistle, irritated husband watching TV....... these kinds of mundane things which men usually shows they are getting irritated but actually cherishing them......... hits straight to the core of Alka. Coz this actually was the true reflection of her life.
What if??? Nayantara is just an imaginary character. What if Alka was talking to her own split personality whom she goes on nurturing for the date with his old friend. And what if she gets rid of her split personality (by killing Nayantara and her imaginary son Samar) as soon as she realises that the image was not worth aspiring for.
Samrat Thapa mind blowing idea. The only defect that i feel is that if she has a split personality then why she would include a child?? Secondly the gunshots happened in the noon while the date was at night.
I watched this when I was in school. Didnt get the story that well then, but, now, watching it now, it's an eye opener. The grass being greener on tje other side...the fact that Konkona's character lost so much and was sort of pining for that lifestyle.
Konkona Sen Sharma has the most magnetic eyes I have ever seen. I don't know what it is about Bengoli actresses, but they just own the screen inside-out with their oomph and class. Thanks for sharing this short film!
I love konkanas acting really natural and it's a lesson to the people who waste their time and money by showing off to others instead looking on their own
What amazing acting by both Konkona and Tilotama! Brilliant short film..Hard hitting.. There are many like Nayantara's character in today's world. Shook me up.
I can relate so much to this. As a gay guy who went to an all boys boarding school and lived in a hostel, I never had any friends because the boys had presumptions about me that I will lure them into sex as I'm gay. Everyone used to mock me for being effeminate so I secluded myself and hardly went outside other than for classes. But this one guy was so nice to me and he was poor at Math so he used to drop by at my room to study. I knew so well he's straight and nothing's ever gonna happen between us but I used to imagine that he's my boyfriend and used to write my thoughts about him (which included a few slutty and sexually charged made up stories too) in a diary. One day unfortunately he read that diary and I lost the only friend I had. Seeing this short film stirred back those memories.
It is very beautifully shown that deep inside, no one wants to live a fake life. But somehow, we catch that desire from others, and became a part of that cycle.
woah what a film. JAydeep sarkar, you have hit the core man. seeing a very good indian short film after a long time .i am your official fan. Count me one. haha
Some ppl are never happy with they have, they chase happiness in things. Happiness is being peaceful and content and accepting everyone's life without comparing or degrading others.
Pay attention to the little details - 1. At 4:30 when Nayantara's husband asks if there were any bank calls she immediately switches language and replies, "We'll talk later, when she's gone" this shows her act of hiding the reality and then camera focuses on the small mask hanging on her car which signifies her masking the truth of her lifestyle.(Open subtitle if you didn't get this one) Before and after the scene the camera frame remains in a way such that the mask is shown b/w both of them. 2. At 18:30 Alka was copying Nayantara to an extent that she says "we are going US and it's Samar's choice" while her son's name was Dheeraj not Samar. The Necklace here represents the fake reality we present in front of the society.
Dheeraj is Alka's son says Nayantara while talking to her husband on video call (Samar is their son), then in the kitchen Alka talks about Samar going for Karate classes with the neighbor's son. Confusion?
Well Done. Excellent production, direction, acting and choice of setting. Very realistic, and thought provoking. She fit the part & portrayed her character very well.
What I understood: Nayanthara is just an imaginary character of her past created by Alka. Alka and her kid samar was killed by her husband. 1. The same servant at alkas place enjoying her listening to music cries when she is dead. 2. Alka talks in konkanas voice to the guy and also mentions samar as her son. 3. Alka finally disappears after walking out of the car into the dark potraying her death.
The Short film is excellently made. Both Konkana and Tillottama have played their part exceedingly well. But in the closing of the movie, showing a shot of Konkana adds to the viewers confusion a bit. This could have been avoided.
great performace by my fave Konkona Sen Sharma... glad to see her back in hindi movies... Aisha in Wake up sid and Page 3 brilliance and this shows another great range of her as an actress... loved it... interesting story and well filmed...
Thanks for this film. It shows what a happy and satisfactory life means from a right perspective. Those lines uttered by Girish as to what makes a person happy at the end of the day was an eye opener.
Brilliant!!!! great concept, great acting by Konkona (as always) and Tilottoma!...fake is always fake, no matter what! still how we waste our entire life in an useless effort to put on others' lives! short film, but a much larger concept portrayed brilliantly!
Masterpiece films like these stay hidden due to nepotism and favouritism and all isms of Bollywood....It would have been a better place if it had place for content like this🔥
Not entirely, but the plot is loosely woven around *The Necklace* by Guy De Maupassant; we used to read in English textbooks in school. Too many interpretations. 👏🏼👏🏼Too deep for an average Indian viewer, that pretty much explains the lesser number of views & likes. Ahalya is something everyone can understand & the thriller element in a short movie is what compells the Indian audience. (In a country where short movies are not a trend yet I would say). Baby steps towards breaking stereotypical 3 hr family drama trend👏🏼👍🏼
@LargeShort films Thanx a lot for english subtiles . Now I understand it much better ..So it was nayantara and her poor child samar who were killed by her husband who perhaps did it due to pressure of huge debts .. Hopefully Alka realised that everyone has their own problems and all that glitters is Not Gold ...Other side of the valley is always green ... The short film is very nice..and thought provoking .
Thank God I realised soon the secret to good life. I kept buying things clothes but none of them were making me happy. I did not understood at first. I was trying to fill the void with material possession and keeping up with useless people. I discovered the concept of minimalism. I purge all those useless things I use to buy and got rid of energy draining people. I don't use social media so much. I finally found what I was looking for. Peace.
my funda of happiness is being content and happy with what i have , but end up being accused of non ambitious , not earning too much as per my caliber.and rarely lazy also. i prefer traveling second II tire sleeper coach interacting with people , reading paper/ magazine of some one i dont even know ,but my better half will want a/c or air travel . See opposite do attract also living a happy married life .
Very crisply made film. Enjoyed watching Konkona & Tilottama. It explained the emptiness & hollowness behind the glamourous world. Well done Jaideep Sarkar ...
The man's dialogue at 17.50 is just so true.... these 5 star hotels, so called luxuries etc seems fake to most of matured pple, they all scream nothing but money hence u may feel comfortable but not peaceful and most importantly happy with these things around, many of great personalities have lead simple and thoughtful life which is nothing but pure bliss...
I'm amazed, this film portrays the hollowness of the materialistic life, relating happiness with luxury and most importantly the generalization of beliefs of Indians residing abroad. The plot is superb and slow which creates a deeper impact of its aim. Kudos to the team❤
Okay so there are 3 possibilities to this story:- 1) Nayantara is Alka'a actual friend and she is actually present there and is not her split personality and it is just that she wants to be like her friend which is why she copies her. ( but Nayantara was just being fake ) 2) Nayantara is Alka's split personality cause they both had the same maid and after looking at Alka & her Husband it looks like they are poor by their dressing sense & they might have become recently poor cause they stayed in a good building.Plus alka referred Sameer as her son in ront of her Crush. :. It is her who dies at the end along with her son which is why no one notices her when she rushes in the building and its wierd that she had access to Nayantara's car and its wierd that the cops or no one saw that too. 3) Nayantara actually dies and her spirit actually goes in Alka's body cause when Alka meets her crush she turn into a very different person and I guess which is why Alka refers Sameer as her son cause it was Nayantara who spoke through Alka's body.
All in All this story simply sayz that we should be real , no matter what... We should stay with what we have ...with what we are... Nice short film...a lesson tho...😌 Great acting by both the actresses ....
Loved the short film, 'Nayantara's Necklace'. To ape the ailing is even worse. Better still, to embrace your own (perceived) ill-luck than to embrace the (perceived) good-luck of the other. :) For someone like me, who could relate to the character of both Alka's friend (to the extent that he appreciates simple pleasures of life) and to Alka (who is dwindling between the reality of her own simple life and the peer pressure created by the fake-life led by her friend Nayantara), I enjoyed the movie in its every light and dark moment. The movie had a piece of cake for me to take home, 'to each its own'. :)

She played Alice in Monsoon Wedding too. Brilliant actress!!
She's even played in is love enough, sir and qissa her name is tillotama Shome
opening scene- use of makeup to hide your true self is the crux !
can please explain me what are those repeated portraying of those cup cakes n tea sets signified. .. good story but a lot of things I didn't get
+pamolina choudhary I think they represented a stale lifestyle, which no longer inspired her. it was a symbol of gaiety that she longer enjoyed. because in one frame with these objects, she is shown perturbed !
+Tanuja Pathak thank you dear...
+pamolina choudhary xxnx
+pamolina choudhary it appeared to me the life she enjoyed in Dubai whic she still yearns it. Cup cakes, kitty parties, art galleries - the glitzy posh life.
Girish's mention of cooker's whistle, irritated husband watching TV....... these kinds of mundane things which men usually shows they are getting irritated but actually cherishing them......... hits straight to the core of Alka.
Coz this actually was the true reflection of her life.

too bad her own husband lacks any personality.
Hmm but this is so typical ....of men... Wanting women to be homemaker

Samrat Thapa nice thought
Samrat Thapa mind blowing idea.
The only defect that i feel is that if she has a split personality then why she would include a child?? Secondly the gunshots happened in the noon while the date was at night.
Like FIGHT CLUB ?
Aayush Chandrawanshi yeah bro, somewhat similar to that
Samrat Thapa i
I watched this when I was in school.
Thanks to the comments section. It actually helped me a lot to understand the film better.
Konkana is such a beautiful actress and so natural. Great art!!!!
The music the makeup the lighting and of course the acting and a deep story line. This is how any film should be!
Simple things give us real and long lasting happiness. Amazing performance by both lead female characters.
I love konkanas acting really natural and it's a lesson to the people who waste their time and money by showing off to others instead looking on their own
What amazing acting by both Konkona and Tilotama! Brilliant short film..Hard hitting.. There are many like Nayantara's character in today's world. Shook me up.
tillotama shome always gives me a reason to live, haven't seen such a fine performance since a really long time. thank you tillotama.
she is just lovely
jinchuriki83 Sexe dance
great performance
A new age in the history of movie film begins with this short film & Mr. Sujoy Ghosh broght this up.
Sweetie you will get friends.
Did you try to explain him?
Maybe he was just scared
You are so brave to accept that in india
To have a simple life you must not tell anybody about you being gay unless you have achieved a good job
sad bro
hopefully life is better now
Both Konkona and Tillotama were brilliant in this perfectly paced film. Thanks for sharing.

Well written and executed 👏🏽 and why is Konkana so underrated 😩♥️
It is very beautifully shown that deep inside, no one wants to live a fake life. But somehow, we catch that desire from others, and became a part of that cycle.
I always loved Konkona Sen’s movies....she didn’t disappoint me! Thoughtful subject. And deft handling!
This movie till now the best short film I have seen .
Tilottoma Shome is super .
Amazing both are fine actresses who have wonderfully portrayed that all that glitters is not gold..

woah what a film. JAydeep sarkar, you have hit the core man. seeing a very good indian short film after a long time .i am your official fan. Count me one. haha
I honestly lack words. Wonderfully written and wonderfully enacted. This is such an underrated clip
The way the man on date expressed his expectations was so pure and beautiful ❤️
Some ppl are never happy with they have, they chase happiness in things. Happiness is being peaceful and content and accepting everyone's life without comparing or degrading others.
Konkana eyes throughout the movie was contradicting with here tongue.... Its really beautiful movie....
Great observation by you
Pay attention to the little details -
1. At 4:30 when Nayantara's husband asks if there were any bank calls she immediately switches language and replies, "We'll talk later, when she's gone" this shows her act of hiding the reality and then camera focuses on the small mask hanging on her car which signifies her masking the truth of her lifestyle.(Open subtitle if you didn't get this one)
Before and after the scene the camera frame remains in a way such that the mask is shown b/w both of them.
2. At 18:30 Alka was copying Nayantara to an extent that she says "we are going US and it's Samar's choice" while her son's name was Dheeraj not Samar.
The Necklace here represents the fake reality we present in front of the society.
Omg even I was so confused about ur point no 2. Thank U for explaining. 😌
Good explanation, u r absolutely right
Can we take a moment and appreciate konkona's acting. On point always *.*
She is fabulous every time ❤
Even Thilotama was top notch.
Konkona Sen Sharma is just great...her facial expressions are just flawless
Happiness is inside you not in some other person / things ...

Dheeraj is Alka's son says Nayantara while talking to her husband on video call (Samar is their son), then in the kitchen Alka talks about Samar going for Karate classes with the neighbor's son. Confusion?
I have same confusion
She was posing totally nai Tara that's y she said all same as naintara told her
Well Done. Excellent production, direction, acting and choice of setting. Very realistic, and thought provoking. She fit the part & portrayed her character very well.
What I understood:
Nayanthara is just an imaginary character of her past created by Alka.
Konkona and Tillotama are such underrated actors 💜
Nayantaras an amazing friend to have despite that she herself lives a deluded life...
Love for Konkona increases more and more after watching this beauty with brains acting.
Tillotama is so beautiful! What a natural beauty
Chasing class... fame... illusion... and finally all that for nothing... hopefully truth never comes to limelight... good performance
The Short film is excellently made. Both Konkana and Tillottama have played their part exceedingly well. But in the closing of the movie, showing a shot of Konkana adds to the viewers confusion a bit. This could have been avoided.
DevDev Dev
Her eyes looled really eerie when alka was talking about going to the US to Girish
great performace by my fave Konkona Sen Sharma... glad to see her back in hindi movies... Aisha in Wake up sid and Page 3 brilliance and this shows another great range of her as an actress... loved it... interesting story and well filmed...
Absolutely and she has got some screen presence which even the painted actresses don't have
th-cam.com/video/thenazUM7Go/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for this film.
It shows what a happy and satisfactory life means from a right perspective.
Those lines uttered by Girish as to what makes a person happy at the end of the day was an eye opener.
What a concept, performance, Direction and the creativity. Far better then many bollywood's 2.30 hr. Nice.
Amazingly well portrayed. Kudos to both the amazing ladies.
Astounding...
bewildered by the act...
Simple living, high thinking... expressed at it's best!
#MustWatch #Konkana

I am a fan of konkona, but here tilottoma has stolen the show
ryt absolutely
S... I agree, bt Konkana evergreen ❤️
yup agree
Nayantara : star of the eyes
Moral: Star of the eyes is never the star.
A very worth watch short film . The actors are really worth appreciating along with it's story .
nice story ...Both acctress simply outstanding
The mask hanging in nayantara's car also explains that she's wearing a mask.

Jus amazing, each clip has its own meaning. I watched the film twice with different takeaways both the times.
Would love to watch some more like this.
Peace.
priyanka sarvaiya 😀😀😀
Very good. Appreciable
right
my funda of happiness is being content and happy with what i have , but end up being accused of non ambitious , not earning too much as per my caliber.and rarely lazy also. i prefer traveling second II tire sleeper coach interacting with people , reading paper/ magazine of some one i dont even know ,but my better half will want a/c or air travel . See opposite do attract also living a happy married life .
So good to hear Priya. How old are you darling?
Beautiful, i was completely invested in each and every moment, great art!!
Very crisply made film. Enjoyed watching Konkona & Tilottama. It explained the emptiness & hollowness behind the glamourous world. Well done Jaideep Sarkar ...
Kudos to the story, Koko and Tilli! Great performances!
Perfect film....She is not knowing that she is following someone else lifestyle ...Avoiding her beautiful simple lyf❣❣
The man's dialogue at 17.50 is just so true.... these 5 star hotels, so called luxuries etc seems fake to most of matured pple, they all scream nothing but money hence u may feel comfortable but not peaceful and most importantly happy with these things around, many of great personalities have lead simple and thoughtful life which is nothing but pure bliss...
after a long time ....happy to see a meaningful short film...indeed ,its too deep☺
🙏💜💐
Guess we all are trying to change into different beings but always forgetting what we have with us.
I'm amazed, this film portrays the hollowness of the materialistic life, relating happiness with luxury and most importantly the generalization of beliefs of Indians residing abroad.
The plot is superb and slow which creates a deeper impact of its aim. Kudos to the team❤
Okay so there are 3 possibilities to this story:-
1) Nayantara is Alka'a actual friend and she is actually present there and is not her split personality and it is just that she wants to be like her friend which is why she copies her. ( but Nayantara was just being fake )
2) Nayantara is Alka's split personality cause they both had the same maid and after looking at Alka & her Husband it looks like they are poor by their dressing sense & they might have become recently poor cause they stayed in a good building.Plus alka referred Sameer as her son in ront of her Crush.
See from 14:27 one of a cop stop her
All in All this story simply sayz that we should be real , no matter what...
We should stay with what we have ...with what we are...
Nice short film...a lesson tho...😌
Great acting by both the actresses ....
Loved the short film, 'Nayantara's Necklace'. To ape the ailing is even worse. Better still, to embrace your own (perceived) ill-luck than to embrace the (perceived) good-luck of the other. :)
For someone like me, who could relate to the character of both Alka's friend (to the extent that he appreciates simple pleasures of life) and to Alka (who is dwindling between the reality of her own simple life and the peer pressure created by the fake-life led by her friend Nayantara), I enjoyed the movie in its every light and dark moment. The movie had a piece of cake for me to take home, 'to each its own'. :)
