      the way he is described in the caption it feels like the left is trying to use his identity for an agenda.
      every time i hear he is a great director, artist, writer.
      not sure why he is described like that...
      he was someone who truly appreciated Indian culture.
      such things are portrayed in many of his stories.
      he learnt film making from the west and someone who never forgot his roots. not sure why that is not said that much.
      and yes people are forgetting he has portrayed both the glamorous and poor aspects.
      to all those who think Satyajit Rai only highlighted the poor check out the film Sheemabadha.
      Also check out Agantuk where he criticizes western idea of consumerism, division caused by organised religion and every other negative aspects of countries we consider "civilised" civilization to a huge extent and makes us question who is actually living their life to the fullest -this materialistic modern civilization or the wild tribes.
      to the owners of this video i would simply request to not use him for his political agenda.

    Lovely video Quint. Keep up the good work. Satyajit Ray was indeed a filmmaker par excellence, even Akira Kurosawa, one of the most famous directors during his time, considered Mr Ray to be best.
    He was highly educated, polished, thoughtful, a polymath, and most importantly, empathetic. He UNDERSTOOD human emotions and had a gift of portraying those on the silver screen.
    Sad thing is, the Indian audience in general is not upto the intellectual capacity required to genuinely appreciate his work.
    That is why even for this video, under the comments section, we have morons saying Hindutva is great and Satyajit Ray wouldn't have been famous if he was in Pakistan.
    Simply put, we are dumb.

    • @charliesmith6549
      @charliesmith6549 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @souvik deb I consider him one of the greatest filmmakers of all time but not the greatest. And you're saying Kurosawa considered him the best is a false statement. He admired his work a lot for sure. And you should not use the name of greats to justify the greatness of another and when they belong to same period of time.

    • @souvikdeb2523
      @souvikdeb2523 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@charliesmith6549 I agree, Kurosawa didn't refer to Ray as being the 'best' but he did consider him one amongst the best. However, most of the famous Hollywood directors like Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg and Nolan (to some extent) consider Ray's work to be their cinematic inspiration.
      My point is, there are VERY FEW Indian directors who can actually admire and understand Ray, let alone make movies like him. Yes, there are a few avant-garde filmmakers here in India but most of them do commercial movies on the side to keep their craft running.
      Ray was unique because he consciously tried not to do commercial movies. Not that he detested them or anything, it was more so because he was a micromanager of sorts and I can imagine him running into a fit when a producer would ask him to include a peppy dance number for 'grabbing eyeballs'. Ray was beyond all this.

Being progressive, in short, is being supporter of the thought process and activities that contributes to human growth. Human growth, in short, is being better in different aspects of life, including education, skills and career and living the life of one's own choosing and simultaneously expanding the worldview. Only tried to explain. I am sure there are many people who are more accomplished would be able to explain it better. About utopia, it's all an utopia. The se utopias are called ideals. Being ultimately kind or compassionate or resilient or loving and so on are utopias. When we create policies and try to put those into action in order to at least strive to reach these utopias, it is called humanist policies. A state (be it a province or a nation), when tries to implement these policies, is called a welfare state. When a state achieves remarkable results in uplifting the standards of living of its citizens by following these policies, they are called developed.. hence, "developed countries". About quenching political thirst, better to take the word politics in the greater sense of the world. Politics is none other than our day to day life when affected by policies taken by authority.. be it good or bad, hence all great artists like Ray are aware about the importance of being political while demonstrating human lives through art, because we all are political..so called 'non-political' is also political. About change, nobody needs approval from nobody but needs awareness.
