    the scariest part about JP is how realistic he is. he could be anyone living in this world using his money to generate more wealth for himself at the cost of everyone else around him while maintaining an air of a good philanthropist.

      Yeah they definitely hit the IRL counterpart aspect hard. He's a corrupt businessman that we all know exist (to whatever extent) and I do appreciate his thematic presence. Capcom could have gone harder, though

      @JoeRahl ปีที่แล้ว +24

      @@EventHubs He's not an allusion to JP Morgan, he's an allusion of George Soros. Rich man, NGOs, starts color/ethnic revolutions in countries while pretending to help. G is 3 from J, S is 3 from P(GS/JP) giving you the 6. There were a lot more references in the comic too.

    • @zeknoss

      @@JoeRahl it's actually a prototype of men. JP, Soros, Gates, whatever its name they always come and go and mock people with their duplicity. This is why the masons use the "hidden hand" gesture. They hold one of their hands in their jacket or on their back while showing their other hand to you. You see the open hand doing something but have no idea what the other does. This is the idea behind the main archetype of these men.

    I think he's very well made... He's not really what comes to mind when you think of a fighting game boss, though. To me, he represents something much scarier.
    JP seems like the guy who can destroy the lives of you and just about everyone you know without ever actually having to fight you.
    He's got this "real world evil" about him.

    Even tho considering JP was once Bison's former accountant I feel he's much more of a well thought of antagonist rather than Bison who's primary goal was to find a vessel body and take over the world with his Shadaloo militia. What's more he's very conniving after witnessing the events from the comics & in world tour his plans came out successfully knowing that was his full intention.
    I'm looking foward even more seeing him and what his main goal is for the future and what's more for the others that revolves around him. Ken probably wanting to go after him and clearing his name, Cammy investigating surrounding JP, Kimberly wanting revenge for her uncle and what's more the new protagonist Luke for I can only assume would want to get back at JP for not just framing Ken but also killing his other student Bosch and basically a attacking the people of Nayshal.

    • @mr.voidout4739
      @mr.voidout4739 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Indeed, there's so much to unpack about him. Serious, thought-provoking allegory, but I think he was way underplayerd in World Tour. He just kinda shows up and unveils his master plan. No alludes, just... there's the mastermind! I recommended to people that they play his arcade story first, and read the prequel manga-short. Gives him the gravity he deserves.

  • @I9ndigo
    @I9ndigo ปีที่แล้ว +61

    The thing that makes JP differently evil to me, is his passive agressiveness.
    In Ken's Arcade mode and his winquote against him, despite ruining his life, he keeps suggesting Ken forget about all this and go back to only being a Street Fighter. He's been set up, reputation destroyed, can't see his wife and kid but JP really acts like Ken should consider this some sort of win. Ken isn't Ryu. They both want to be stronger but Ryu doesn't have these sort of attachments which further highlights how both students took separate paths. Ryu overcoming the Satsui no hado and Ken being conflicted with thoughts of murdering JP.
    There's more hints of his nihillistic attitude when he beats Ryu. Saying that while true that the path to strength is never ending, those that walk it are doomed to expire without ever reaching its peak.
    The way he's condescending to people. The way he talks down and sounds annoyed when performing his moves, JP will without a doubt go down as a staple villain in the series. Him always being a part of shadaloo as some evil banker, justifying how we've never seen him to this point, is smart. I'm sure we'll figure out how he became super powerful with enough time.

    • @badconnection4383
      @badconnection4383 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Another thing that makes him interesting is that he keeps with the insults in his Critical Art. He starts the move by calling you a cretin because he's so appalled by the fact that anyone should bring him so close to defeat, and then he calls your struggle a "meaningless effort" before sadistically filling your body with spikes.

    His gameplay is also integrated well into the game. In SF 5, Bison dominated with overwhelming power, showing his ruthlessness. Honestly, JP is refreshing. We've been dealing with Bison and Bison clones pretty much since the series' inception. And even though he has his own ties to Bison, he's not a megalomaniac or a power mad dictator. Well, he kind of is, but he's incredibly subtle and sinister about it. That's compelling as hell in my book.

    I do find it interesting that altough jp worked for bison and wanted to see the world trough his eyes, he still hated him and shadaloo i mean he even says that bison was a madman. I also find it cool he is a more behind the scenes villain instead of a straight forward villian.Also i don't mind that he worked for bison i think he is still a pretty cool character. I also play as him. The way he uses psycho power is really cool like those psycho power crystals, clones, and his psycho power throne he makes in his perfect win pose.

  • @ultravioletsign3688
    @ultravioletsign3688 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Well that's quite underwhelming to be honest. Introducing JP as one of the 3 original students of psycho power would've been simple but yet brilliant approach given everything we know so far.
    JP Is such a good contrast to Bison from personality to fighting style. Imagine him as Bison's peer who learned under the same master but each is able to have their own interpretation of psycho power for their own varying endeavors, Bison proceeds to train and integrate physical combat to his arsenal resulting into the rush down aggressor who's psycho power is less refined but makes it up with hand to hand combat . JP with his distaste for getting his hands dirty grows to despise physical combat, thus proceeds to put all his focus and time in refining his psycho power skills to perfection. And as a result I'm more than happy that he's bearly a skilled fighter without psycho power.
    Now this in my opinion would have enriched the psycho power lore so much without sacrificing logic. Now i'm out here thinking to myself that if he's not one of the original students then he's a boomer basically Ed and Falk tier, that's not goated smh. Dude JP is literally just some random dude for all i care.
    Capcom I'm hurt. They could've kept on adding from here onwards with a solid foundation like that, where has he been? What's with the blue and red in his stage? Does he have ties with the illuminati?, would've been crazy cool to learn that just like bison who has Ed, Falk, Decapri. JP also has his own people who inherited psycho power from him, Expanding the law and interactions.
    He's still my favorite SF6 character, but I'm disappointed with his origin. I'd love if they retcorn it.

  • @badconnection4383
    @badconnection4383 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I think JP is really well made. He's a villain who not only challenges the central themes of the characters but also insults it, he clashes with Bison's quest for domination through manipulation and extortion. He's also a sore loser as shown in his Critical Art. He starts the move by calling you a "cretin" which means that he is disgusted by the fact that anyone should bring him so close to defeat, and then calls your struggle meaningless before putting a bunch of spikes in your body.

    I will tell something: he IS a liar and manipulative. I've been playing WT for some time, and having some dialogue post campaign with him, I can tell easily that he is the type o character that is slippery as hell. He knows that he is not the strongest combat wise, but he compensates that being smart. If Capcom adds more content to WT together with the DLC characters, be prepared for some backstabbing coming from him.

    After watching this video, I went to look up JP Morgan stuff, and because of recent events, it lead me to a J.P. Morgan titanic theory where he and a lot of his competitors were supposed to be on the titanic and he backed out at the last minute. They theorize that he knew it was going to sink because it wasn’t actually the titanic, it was the oldest of It’s sister ships, either the Olympic, or Britannic, they just switched the names. Anyway long story slightly shorter, insurance on that worn out ship, and most of J.P. Morgan’s competitors died. Sh*t crazy, right?

    To be fair, the game just came out and if V is any indication, they could flesh him out further throughout the rest of the game's lifespan like thet they did the story back then... I honestly wonder if they left most of the Arcade Endings (like Kimberly and Guile's) intentionally open ended/unfinished to add more to them (or more story routes in general) as time goes on...
    Simply put, I think it's too early to judge.

    the way World Tour ending is set up, and the arcade ones too, makes me think they're gonna add story stuff to the game, most likely with more quests and characters for WT. Feels like the story is just beginning, we don't even find out who the "Asterisk" is. I don't think it's oversight or weak plot, I think that's intentional.
    For example, Cammy's arcade stuff. She bumps into JP and... that's it. "who was that man?"
    I don't think they're gonna wait until SF7 for her to find out:D

    Instead of JP being a former Shadaloo financial manager and or ministry of finance and money laundering. I would’ve prefer that JP was one of the few people who learned Psycho power from the same master who taught M Bison that power. It would make sense that he would’ve known Bison from his young training days. The fact that he helped to manage his banking skills into nonprofit projects and organizations. Being some world economic forum type member who played behind the scenes of say interpol. That he was responsible for making Shadaloo a major threat. That wiping Shadaloo would allow himself to take the pieces and gain more. It would make sense that JP decided to be more in the open. It would’ve make sense there. Someone with psycho powers. But instead of a criminal dictator. It’s a two faced philanthropist.

    I'm still curious about his possible ties to Q and G, the only legitimate name he has is JP, which strikes close to Q and G's one letter name basis, and of course his lavish taste in clothing. But also like Q and G he remains just as much of a mystery. Yes while he is associated with M. Bison, Shadaloo and even Neo Shadaloo now, what's to say he isn't associated with G and Q? Additionally his whole idea is about deception, in his master interactions he even lies about setting off the bomb, like it happened by accident, what's to say that how much of this is the truth? What if he's more than an accountant? What if he is a disciple of Psycho Power too? A lot of questions

    jp's probably(outside m. bison in the animated movie/2v.) the 1st street fighter villain to legit scare me as he's a realistic threat more prevalent than ever in our world and really got disgusted at his actions towards kimberly/ken especially and even though his defeat was a real lame way to continue the story with what's not finished like ken's situation(like eliza's thoughts/the worrying possibility of violent ken emerging if ryu doesn't fully confront him about it.) think world tour having episodes with more characters and locations added throughout it's life would be cool with how the cfn database showed the potential it can open.
    i did think he would be m. bison's master revived sith style or one of the pupils but while funny does make sense he's m. bison's accountant that with how shadaloo's bases get destroyed about as much as dr. wily's castles/the organization falls apart extremely quickly after dictators defeats in 2 and 5 bison just decided to get someone for that in case he fell for good alongside being behind s.i.n's activities.
    think with how the secret society's mentioned to have fallen into disarray after 3rd strikes events/them also being behind s.i.n reviving m. bison to continue their agenda think gill,urien and kolin will be who jp is laundering money to to eventually make them even more dangerous than before that if handled well would have the characters throughout the series teaming up to stop jp in different ways destroying his ambitions.

    So Capcom wanted to move past Bison, and they create a Bison wannabe.
    Lorewise, he is Shadaloo's accountant who wanted Psycho Power, and now he organises a tournament as well (just like Bison as he states himself in his arcade ending)
    Him killing Kimberley's uncle is also just a repeat of M.Bison / Chun Li's arc.
    So lazy and lame.
    I'll take Necalli's concept over this discount Saruman anyday.
    TL;DR M.Bison >>>> JP

    There are too many loopholes in hes story as well as master ken's story since it doesn't add up .. ken has many rich friends and also military background .. why no one helped him ? Hes one of the heroes .. as well as for jp he should have been caught for association with m. bison since they are a world terrorist (winners write history and the heroes do win )

    The idea of a manipulative, but not meglomaniacal welder of the psycho power could've been fun and a nice pallate cleanser from the played out "Somehow Bison returned" plots of SF. His gameplay nicely reinforces this. Things like almost steps on a defeated foes face, but instead confidentally walking over them shows both hubris and some restraint. I was actually glad he wasn't Bison's old training classmate. Making him a banker who has open distain for Bison's ambitions was interesting. We have so few antagonists with more "regular" ambitions.
    The comic and story don't really follow through on that. The elaborate scheming and deceptions don't read like a dispassionate numbers person. This is just classic mustache twirling schlok.
    The non ending of SF6 is so meh in part because the theme of strength doesn't fit with JP's role as written in the story. The idea of power and its pursuits being up to wielder is well supported by SF6 gameplay. You are free to borrow moves and philosophies from all sorts of characters, good or evil. However, in the story you are fighting against the convoluted machinations of a Saturday morning cartoon villain. He literally just killed a guy with a bomb in a fighting belt... and then its a reflection on the meaning strength?
    Go home Capcom writing team. You're drunk

    JP is a particularly well thought out villain. He's also relatable in the sense that he's an economic hitman - a real globalist villain, and not some kind of cartoon villain like Bison.
    In the world tour mode and once you get mastery from him, you learn that he thinks having strength is meaningless. JP doesn't use strength, but would rather encourage people turn on themselves through their own greed and failings and profit from their stupidity. He tells the story of his beloved cat that chased and bit it's own tail off, hinting as to JP's own understanding of how people are often their own worst enemies. Bosch's demise is proof of this.
    What I liked the most about him though, is that he's thoroughly convincing to the player as he tries to paint himself as the misunderstood good guy - by painting the rebels that oppose him as terrorists and their behavior as illegal and unacceptable - and then getting these charges to stick by presenting himself as an upright and upstanding gentleman.
    As for his nationality - there seems to be some clue from his special moves, like "Chornobog", which is similar to the Ukrainian spelling of "Chornobyl". Very pointed social commentary from Capcom here.

    Lol what a terrible concept making him just an accoutant of bison. How does capcom always manage to mess up with story gosh. The way he utilises the power seemed far superior to bison making us believe he could have been bison fellow pupil or master. Nope accountant, and since bison is so iconic im sure when he comes back he'll probably one shot JP telling him he has no idea how to handle that power lol.the story is such a let down coz well there really is no story. They cleverly hid that by doing world tour so kudos to them i guess. Ken is now homeless until g sf7 i guess

      I disagree in this point because JP is not an average villain, and that is good. He openly admits that he is not the strongest, and that he lacks physical combat experience, but man, that guy seems to be a lizard... A Level 100 backstabber. He is the type of guy that shakes your hand with one hand, while he stabs you with the another, without you even suspect.

      I wonder if it's some strange cultural thing with Japan, where they don't want a new character to "overshadow" an old one, so they purposefully make the new character some lesser subordinate. As a way to not "step on the toes" of whomever created the original character.
