The A4 is a gym teacher power-trip on wheels. You buy an A4 because you want a Subaru Outback but you don't want to look like you support organic sustainability.
My other sarky reason for A4 Avant ownership is that a Subie says, "I buy all of my Clothing at REI" and an Audi says, "I buy all of my clothing at Banana Republic," but the 17-year-old Audi says, "I buy all of my Banana Republic clothing at Goodwill," which in my case, is true. Mine is a manual five speed, FWIW. I think this merits me real leather shoes.
+Dejan Pećanac I live on a steep hill and the access to my driveway is via an alley that is not maintained. It turns into a solid sheet of ice in the wintertime. My old FWD Honda Civic couldn't make it up the alley. My RWD Toyota Tacoma can't, either. the AWD Audi, though, it is nice and steady. It's got enough torque to handle a second-gear start which is essential when navigating icy streets. The other nice thing about the AWD is that acceleration feels more subtle. I have to watch out with it or I will come on to the freeway going 120km/h (+/- 75 mph!) which in Kansas is highly frowned upon! Because of this subtle feeling, the car seems more sophisticated - a grownup's car after my hoonable '88 Civic DX hatch.

Ugh, I owned one of these for ~5 years (midnight blue sedan, 1.8T quattro with a manual) That armrest you played with needs to be kept upright alllll the fucking time if you have the manual transmission, and my magnet/clip broke too, so it's constantly like "HAHA FUCK YOU I'M CHEAPLY MADE". I had an 03 a4. Every hard plastic piece in those cars is coated with a rubberish coating. It barely takes anything to rub it off. Combine that with a cooling system that I almost had to completely replace, makes that a car I'll probably never buy again.

It still bothers me that Audi sell CVT transmissions in the USA. I thought it was a joke when someone told me but nope, they actually do sell CVTs in the USA! Meanwhile, the only options I can get for in the EU (and rightfully so) are a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed Dual Clutch (6-speed is standard). Step up your game, Audi North America.
Mathieu Levac Nope. They still sell CVTs now. Its the only option available on FWD models. ryanmail2004 Technically, the EU pays less for an Audi than the USA does. The reason why it looks like the EU Pays more is because, by law, our sticker price includes all taxes and extra charges unlike the USA where its just the MSRP of the car and nothing else. Its difficult to do a direct comparison since base model slightly differ between countries. The UK Audi A4, for example, comes with a 1.8L engine and a 6-speed with FWD, the USA comes with a 2.0L engine and a CVT with FWD - but the MSRP between the two is a whopping $3500 in favour of the UK. Less standard equipment in the USA but a much weaker engine in the UK. Swings and roundabouts, really. Once you start comparing spec-for-spec (S-Line in the UK, Prestige in the USA), the price difference shrinks to about than $1000, but the UK would still be the slightly cheaper option as far as MSRP is concerned.

My friend used to have a B5 Passat that had a 1.8t with a 5 speed and a great tune with exhaust. I'm not gonna lie, that car was great. It was nice to drive in, the tune made it pretty quick, and the interior was very well made. It didn't remind me of any stereotypes associated with "cheap" German vehicles of the time.
I agree. I currently have a B5.5 Passat with a 5 speed and I think it was built really well. However, I've also driven a 2002 A4 and honestly the interior quality is inferior to my Passat's interior. It's way less comfortable and the materials are just junk. Plus in all honesty I didn't think it looked as good as the Passat...
rkan2 They aren't exactly the same. interior and exterior are totally different and the Passat rides on a slightly stretched version of the A4 chassis. Also I actually meant that I drove a 2001 A4. The 2002 A4 rides on the B6 platform.
Bolt ons, k04 turbo and a tune shoots the power level right up around 300 (if you use good parts with a quality tune). 1.8t is a tank of an engine. Iron block with a great flowing head. Mine has 300,000 miles tuned at 25si, issue free so far aside from a ps pump and alternator.
VAG might only be number 3rd or 4th largest manufacturer, but they are the most diverse. VW, Audi, SEAT, Skoda, Scania, MAN, Ducati, Bentley, Porsche, Lamborghini, Bugatti. Who else offers entry level hatchbacks for the mod life, drop dead gorgeous 2 wheel machines, luxurious sedans finer than penthouses, and incredible hypercars dreams are made of? Noone.
I had the 3.2 v6 version and it was quite fun. You could drive it like a solid sedan, or you could floor it and be up to 100 before you knew it. And handled and cornered quite well. And the seats were super comfortable.

former AUDI owner here ('84 AUDI GT. probably a nice car when it was new. I was at LEAST the 3rd owner and after a few months of ownership, everything started to fall apart). judo for the Where the Red Firn Grows and Assassins Creed references. "Everything's Denver here!".
I know what you mean, I use to own an 04 A6 2.7T Quattro. Although it was fun and very grippy, it was a maintenance nightmare. Had every possible leak possible from transmission, engine oil, power steering, to having a leak that broke the transmission computer and so forth. So glad I got rid of it for an 09 Impreza.

I own a 2003 Audi Avant 3.0 (bought it new). That is SIX cylinders with a 6 speed manual. Smooth engine and handles like it is on rails. There is nothing else on the market that checks all the boxes that I want in a car (14 years later).
The fact that he can reference fur affinity in a review means that he knows what it is, and frequents the site. Mayeb he even posts there! :D Lol. Good job dude!
The A4 is not built on the Passat platform. The Passat platform is called PQ46(A6), while the A4's platform is called PL46(B6) The Passat platform is basically a stretched Golf 5 or Jetta platform
Non enthusiasts? Oh is that why Vw vortex and Audizine are some of the 2 biggest car forums in the world? and the biggest sub forum at Audizine is the B6 one... wow. where have you been the past decade or 2.
Mathieu Levac I can name a half dozen car forums far larger. Any truck forum. Honda forums. Mustang forums, Camaro forums. I am a member on about 50+ forums including VWvortex. Just saying.
I agree on the Audi All-Road being the Outback for Republicans, but that is only in more urbanized areas where Audi dealers are more prevalent. Back in the sticks of Pennsyltucky, Rupublicans who think they will be the brunt of a bad stereo type because they would own an Outback or a Forrester will purchase a stripped down, base model, Grand Cherokee Laredo. This also holds true for Oregon, West Virginia, New Hampshire, and Vermont. And I speak from some authority as the official vehicle of our Kentucky Compound is a 98 Grand Cherokee.
Thanks for the explaining that gary, that doesnt really occur here in canada, as most of the population is in urban areas and no one thinks subaru apart from tuning ppl with the wrx or ppl who want a cheap awd with the lower models.
This car is so wrong, it's got my head aching. First, it's an Audi A4 estate that has one of the best engines VW ever built - performance wise - the 1.8T, instead of the marvelous 1.9TDI or the 2.5TDI diesel engines. So, we got a family car, with a sporty engine, that also has an AUTO box. What ?
*I* bought an A4 because I want an Outback but don't want too many people making assumptions about whether or not I shave my legs.

Like your references. You are like the Colin noir of cars. Check out his gun reviews. He reviews guns the way you review cars
former AUDI owner here ('84 AUDI GT. probably a nice car when it was new.
The internet knows making any sort of FA or (the other site that shall not be named) reference is taboo, this guy just flings one out like it's nothing. RCR you legend.
I wonder what Mr. Regular's fursona is...
Kutztown Dragon
He has a VERY old youtube channel all on that
I love how he mentioned fa and so many people noticed.
Steef dude you can't say that and not tell us the name
this is an old video of his re-uploaded to a different channel th-cam.com/video/IUTDvrqg1CA/w-d-xo.html
That ending song was perfect.
I own a 2003 Audi Avant 3.0 (bought it new). That is SIX cylinders with a 6 speed manual. Smooth engine and handles like it is on rails. There is nothing else on the market that checks all the boxes that I want in a car (14 years later).
I'm about to buy this exact car...
I love the song parodies at the end of the videos.
Damn, good choice with the Weepies song. Didn't expect to hear that gem. Wish the rest of their stuff was that good :P
Knowing what we know now, after Mr. Regular came out, the comment about FurAffinity really starts to make sense, lol
The fact that he can reference fur affinity in a review means that he knows what it is, and frequents the site. Mayeb he even posts there! :D Lol. Good job dude!
It was a silly joke. And yes I know that correlation does not mean causation.
awesomeologyism Thou dust protest too much.
Joe Williston What does having dust protest have to do with any of this?
lol Furaffinity
i freaking died from hearing that lol
God, I had a Passat with the same engine and B6 platform....... Stepping on the accelerator you felt like you were always waiting for the power.
2:55
Im ctfu.
i used to play that series so much when i was younger.
Lol Furaffinity...
Best video yet!
The A4 is not built on the Passat platform. The Passat platform is called PQ46(A6), while the A4's platform is called PL46(B6)
The Passat platform is basically a stretched Golf 5 or Jetta platform
Furaffinity xD Reaaally?
Plz do an early Geo Metrol 3 cylinder 1.0
Geo Metro
The Official Car of: "Beggars Can't be Choosers, but I'm not going to drive your damned Prius Dad."
"Extra down". You defined the car.
Furaffinity is awesome!
finally a car for me
🛑
Let it bro!
Love the Mitch Hedberg reference, RIP
Fuckin' lost it at the saws.
Please do a review on an Integra
i was watching this is class and when he started throwing the saws i couldnt help but laugh
The only thing I remember about Where the Red Furn Grows is how depressing it was....
My MKIV GTI's center console armrest did the exact same thing. Eventually amputated it for even more down.
First time I watched this, I never caught the word furafinity. And now I'm curious, not in a good way though.
World Spins Madly On, nice choice bro.
You lied!!! The Outback for republicans is the Audi Allroad!!!
Also, this is more like an Impreza for non-enthusiasts of cars
I just bought an Audi yesterday, and drove through this part of Colorado to get it home. I’ve come full circle.
Its cool you review motorcycles too.
If you are ever in the Ann Arbor area, feel free to do a review on anything in our garage.
you should do the c5 allroad! 6mt if you can track one down.
your dog is like where the red fern grows, that's so sad 😭
The Audi A4 avant: When the Subaru Outback isn't bobo enough for you.
What ?
I freaking LOVE your furry jokes!
