Great overview, I'm glad to see you covering HDZero. I felt like you represented the pros and cons of the system well, and they're very in line with how I've felt about it over the past year. While I agree there is not much price difference with the Freestyle VTX, it's important to note that HDZero still has (and probably will continue to have) two big price advantages. One is if you want to build a whoop or other micro drone, your total cost per drone is more like $110. Even for a racer with the 20x20 Race 2 VTX, it's still only maybe $130 total cost. The other thing is that with HDZero, you might be able to just buy the receiver for your existing analog goggles if they support HDMI in. That could be a huge advantage for a pilot who has been on analog but is ready to upgrade to digital video. There's no getting around buying the $570 DJI goggles. I'm looking forward to seeing what future content you make on this. I'd love to see what you think after you get a chance to fly with it. Great to see more people covering this!
Thanks man..I appreciate your insight and experience on this topic. You're absolutely correct on the price point aspect. I was using the Freestyle VTX as an example in my comparison. The smaller and less powerful VTX cost less and would lower your total expense when building a drone. I think the only reason I used the Freestyle as an example was because it's the closest to the Vista/Air Units(700-1200mw). The new 1s and 2-3s HDZ VTX boards should be very interesting and will shake up the market. As far as goggles and modules, it really isn't a choice...The only choice is a VRX module(If you own an existing analog goggle with HDMI). The DJI goggles are just way too expensive, and you're locked into that ecosystem(no HDMI). Maybe the V3 might have HDMI inputs. Probably not. I'm really looking forward to see what's to come in the HDZero world. Thanks again! 😊
@@OneManUnmanned totally agree on your reasoning behind using the Freestyle for comparison. I think it’s great to have multiple options for different needs. I like flying the smaller stuff, so the whoop and race boards are more appealing to me. Fortunately the new VRX should be available very soon. It’s been a huge problem that the current one is out of stock everywhere, but I think that will change soon (within this month).
Been flying hd zero since they pretty much first launched the Sharkbyte vrx. They’ve come a long way and I hope the keep putting out new stuff. I have every vtx except the v1 race board and every camera except the first two digisight cameras. You’re right about the system not really being cheaper than DJI but I don’t really think they need to be. Keep in mind DJI is a gigantic company and they can’t even sell their system for less, how could we expect divimath to do it. Stock has gotten a lot better. I remember not even being able to find cameras new and having to check eBay and Facebook to get lucky. Hope you enjoy flying HDZero, keep these videos coming man, love hearing you thoughts.
Thanks Payton. Those are some good insights and observations, especially with your time and experience in HDZero. I'm excited about the whole system and what it could eventually be. The current prices don't necessarily bother me, but there needs to be some competitive advantage over DJI besides lower latency. Hopefully scale can lower the price of HDZero. The new 1S boards seems to be VERY interesting and might draw in more pilots.
@@OneManUnmanned At least one advantage over dji is clear..playing well with others being front and center on that list...I've been flying rc for nearly 40 years...dji's system is the first in rc history to require segregation at events and gatherings...I fly mostly freestyle in parks and schools and cringe when I see a couple people carrying darth vader helmets walk up..usually means the end of my flying day if there's more than 1 on 50mbps and they refuse to turn that down...A petty center image with variable latency and blurry edges is not all there is to FPV...
Thank you for all the info, I'm new to fpv and I want to ask if it would be possible to use the HDZERO with my diatone 369 and skyzone cobra x googles?
If you can fit/wire the HDZero VTX into the drone, and find some way to mount the VRX to your goggles, then it should work. I think most challenges come from mounting the VRX to the goggles.
Nice video. As a beginner I'd like to know if you made or can make a video explaining about the connections from drones to goggles and radios. Frisky, ELRS, etc... I still don't understand how it works or what I have to look when I buy new equipment. Also what's the best kind of connection
Thanks Marcello. I've made some pretty basic videos in the past about drone specs and what each specification means.. I'm sure it will be helpful, even if it's not specific to this HDZero system. I've also made a video on the DJI system and ELRS System. I'm in the process of making a video on the HDZero goggles. In the mean time I'll leave this videos linked below. Overall, drone technology is relatively simple. You pretty much need to use similar communication language(protocols) between the drone and goggles as well as the drone and controller(radio). So, if you have an Analog VTX, you need to have an analog goggle. If you have an Frsky receiver in your drone, you'll need an Frsky module in your controller. You can't mix and match protocols(ex. Frsky receivers with ELRS transmitters or a DJI VTX with HDZero goggles). Best advice is to know the protocols that meet your needs(performance, price, complexity) and stay with that specific protocol. Hello. Hey do you know if they make a flat screen goggle for HD? The reason I ask is because I'm blind in one eye and I can only use goggles such EV800 and such.
That's a good question... The goggles that you saw in the video is one screen. It's called the Scout HD and it's relatively affordable. I have a full review on it coming soon.
@@OneManUnmanned The problem with that is if you were to close one eye and look through them it would look like a wallet size photo lol. Thank you for your response I really appreciate it.
Hmm... I'm not experiencing that. If I close one eye, the other eye gets the full experience. It looks like a movie theater screen. I've tried both eyes as well. These things/answers are subjective, but I would be satisfied with my experience if I had to view FPV with one eye. I don't know if this info helped, but that's best I could explain it.
DJI: we are the only ones we can charge whatever we want... HDzero: we are going to make a cheaper option, that cost more than than DJI once you have purchased comparable gear. GG.
Pretty cool! Great information! Your vids are so high quality! Keep up the great work.
Thank you, I appreciate that. I'll keep pushing forward 🙏
HDZERO...very nice video
Yes.. I'm excited about HDZero and what's to come in the system. Thanks 😊
