  • People ask me how I make my unique wind chimes and I am sharing my process. In this video I show you how to make a driftwood base and use stones, crystals, agate and beads to make a beautiful piece!
    I find cool driftwood, drill holes to make hangers for the chimes. I use beautiful objects and I show you how I string them together.
    What I use: jewelry tools. - round nose, flat nose pliers, and wire nippers
    20 gauge copper wire
    driftwood, glass, jewelry, stones & crystals
    On this channel I make lots of interesting things and show the process. I hope you'll like the videos and subscribe for more! I try to make several videos a month as I work in my studio here in Modesto CA. thanks for watching!

    Great video, Karen! Your voice is so calm and soothing, really enjoyable. Would you mind doing a video on how you put the hooks into the driftwood? That seems to be the part I'm having the most trouble with although I will admit my driftwood is a bit more thin than I thought so I'm worried about drilling into it too much and cracking it all

      Hi Alexis... glad you liked. I have been thinking about doing a new wind chime video, so I promise that it will include hanging system. No flimsy fishing line for me! Thanks for watching!

    @karensgardencreations this video is one of the best videos explaining the process of how to create one of these. Can I ask where you recommend getting beads, crystals and chains from?

    • @KarensGardenCreations
      @KarensGardenCreations  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Chelsea, thank you. So glad that it gave you some inspiration. I usually buy beads from specialty bead stores, because then you can get some really interesting ones. Next I buy a lot of junk jewelry on eBay. Most of the stuff is broken but for my purposes it’s fine. That’s where I get most of my chains for example. I like to find crystals on websites that sell gems cheaply. Off the top of my head I can’t remember the name! Mostly I like to buy agates, Brazilian agates. If you do a search for them I’m sure you can find inexpensive sources. Hope that helps. Also, once people know that you make these, you’ll start getting people giving you old jewelry. For that reason I rarely have to buy junk jewelry these days.

    I'm trying to figure out what I need to put the little holes in the glass?

    • @KarensGardenCreations
      @KarensGardenCreations  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use a hand held dremmel and a diamond core bit. Amazon sells them
      Keep glass wet when drilling
      I hold it underwater

    Great video! Thank you Karen. I found some beautiful pieces of dry Juniper on a visit to friends in Arizona and I want to make some chimes with them, so coming across this video now was perfect timing. I have a question for you. Do you clean or bleach the wood before using it?

    • @KarensGardenCreations
      @KarensGardenCreations  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Susan, so glad you can use this info! I keep my pieces outside and just let nature clean and patina the wood. If you feel your juniper needs it, go ahead and clean it. Best wishes!

    Does the jewelry links tarnish in the rain?

    • @KarensGardenCreations
      @KarensGardenCreations  ปีที่แล้ว

      hi Tamara, they probably do. I’ve never had a customer complain about the weathering of the metal pieces. It’s part of the charm I think. more rustic. 😊

    Where do you u get that size chain ?

    • @KarensGardenCreations
      @KarensGardenCreations  ปีที่แล้ว

      I buy large lots of broken jewelry from EBay. Then I will take the jewelry apart and use beads or chains in the wind chimes. I never know what I'll get. So what you saw in the video is harvested chain from jewelry that's be discarded by others.

    Thank you for showing us your beautiful art! What size eye hooks do you normally use? Thank you!

    • @KarensGardenCreations
      @KarensGardenCreations  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! I go to the hardware store and just buy medium small ones. Sometimes I spray paint the eye screws so they match the piece. Thanks for the feedback!

    Would 24g wire be fine?

    • @KarensGardenCreations
      @KarensGardenCreations  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi. I don't use 22 or 24 gauge, it is just too thin and thus not suitable for what I want to do. I make these for other people so I know 20 gauge, 18 are the best for making the links. I have seen 20 gauge frequently sold in harware stores in the picture hanging section. Best wishes!

      Hi Marisa, believe me it took time to come up with improved chimes! I’m working on a new video of kitchen items Windchime. Keep going, keep trying every day, that’s all we can do. And in the process, we have some joy of making things with our own hands. My very best wishes
