    I remember beginning my weight loss journey a few years ago and counting calories. I was shocked and also disappointed with how much I was eating a day especially in fats alone. This video is great

      @@paketik4960 I can only speak for myself but it's so easy to overeat when you are not counting calories. If I always ate until I felt "full" then I would probably consume 3000 to 4000 calories depending on the day. After starting calorie counting I really struggled at first to fight off the hunger and stay around 2000 or below calories a day. But you can do it! You just have to find your own way how to manage it. I love apples for example and I found out that eating an apple at the end of the day is the perfect hunger killer for me. It is healthy, tastes great, is low in calories and most importantly makes you feel very full for the relatively little amount of it that you actually consume. So it works perfectly as a dinner snack for me.
      Also soup is the king of weight loss for me. You can eat so much soup and it's so few calories since it's mostly just water. And it really fills you up. And don't forget to drink at least 2,5 liters of water every day, water is also such a huge hunger killer, you won't believe it - I definitely underestimated how much water can help in fighting the urge to overeat in the beginning.

      There are healthy and unhealthy fats. Stay away from highly processed foods with a lot of sugar, fats, and carbs. Just by eating real food and you should be good. Low fat products like low-fat milk, sour cream, or yogurt aren’t better than regular fat versions. They can be less calories but that doesn’t mean it’s better. Avoid fake butter, its unnatural, made of straight up whipped oil.

      Soda, sweets, milk, cheese, butter, bread, pasta, fast food, etc.
      If you are used to not choosing the right foods, getting under 2000 calories can feel like starving.

      Despite being a running joke, changing your soda to sugar-free is easily the easiest way to lose weight if you're into soft drinks BTW. Also drink normal coffee instead of Frankensteins they do at Starbucks and the like. Doesn't need to be black you can use a bit of sugar and cream, but calories it it are negligible, while the sweet and buttery lattes are full meal replacers.

Your body will use all your calories you injest indiscriminatly. 200 cals of peanut butter would add as much weight as 200 calories of whole milk. And the steroid thing doesn’t make sense at all. Steroids(not all) create a super natural state of hormonal balance, meaning that they create an extremely optimal environment for the body to build muscle or perform better at the detriment of health. This has nothing to do with not caring about where the calories come from. You can and will get fat if you eat 9000 calories on steroid with no activity to burn it off.

    2:20 to elaborate a little here:
    both concoctions are essentially all sugar, but coke is MASSIVELY more unhealthy than milk. It's not so much about the nutrients (most in developed counties get enough nutrients from solid foods, though this becoming decreasingly true), as it is about the types of sugar in each beverage, and the quantities. Milk is mostly Lactose sugar, which is broken down into blood glucose veeeeeeeery slowly. Coca-Cola is a comically large amount of Sucrose sugar. Sucrose sugar is transformed into blood glucose incredibly quickly. This results in a dumb, massive spike in blood pressure and blood glucose levels that would normally be impossible had the human species not mastered condensing sugar as much as possible. The dose makes the poison, or whatever. Over time these ridiculously high blood glucose levels will make your cardiovascular system fail.

    When talking about what the scientific basis of a calorie, I think it’s also good to differentiate between a calorie and a Calorie. The calorie, as described in the video, is in fact the energy required to make 1 g (~0.035 ounces by weight, 0.034 fluid ounces by volume) of H2O increase by 1 degree Celsius (1.8 degrees Fahrenheit). For those of you who don’t know, this is not the number listed on the nutrition facts of foods. The nutrition facts list the Calories, also known as kilocalories. Essentially, one thousand calories equals one Calorie, and so one Calorie is the energy required for a kilogram (2.2 lbs) of H2O to increase by 1 degree Celsius. To put it into perspective, the average amount of energy people consume each day (taking 2350 based on the 2000-2700 estimate in the video) is enough energy to bring 23.5 kilograms of water from its freezing point to its boiling point. That is over 6 gallons of water. Furthermore, we, in general, expend that amount of energy each day through the activities we do.
    So essentially, don’t let anyone tell you that you’re weak. You have the kind of power inside of you that can do incredible things, and you can probably do more than you think you can

      I hope you get better with your ed. I used to count my calories as well when my ed was in its worst, but now I’m able to think food as fuel and I have learned to not give a shit about the calories. I am sure that some day you will be able to think like this too. You deserve to live your best life without having to see every food as a number.

    1:12 - Sigh, no. that's a "small" calorie. The caloric value on food is always in "big" calories, or kcal (kilo calories), which is the amount of energy required to heat 1 kilogram of water by 1 degree celsius. (Not an exact definition because there are other variables in there, but mostly true in normal scenarios)
    If the definition presented in the video was true then a daily diet of 2000 calories would only be enough to heat about 2kg of your body weight by 1C, which is obviously a nonsensically small amount of energy.

      I even provided a time stamp where he says that the "calorie" he is talking about describes the amount of energy that it takes to increase the temperature of 1 gram of water by 1 degree Celsius - and that is the definition of a small calorie, and an absolutely miniscule amount of energy.
      In short, he lacks rudimentary physics knowledge, and quite frankly lacks logic in thinking that you can survive an entire day on the amount of energy it takes to heat up a liter of water by 2 degrees.
      By the way even his definition of a small calorie isn't precise, but it's close enough that we can ignore it.

    I have been keeping track of my calories for more then a year. Lost about 50 kilos, by limiting myself to 1800/2000 kcal a day.
    To put that into perspective... in terms of food:
    - 2 slices of bread with butter and some delly meat. 250/400 kcal
    - 1,5 litter of green ice thea 280 kcal
    - evening meal ranging from 450 to 950 kcal.
    - and a late night snack from the left over calories, sometimes its enough for a frozen pizza.
    And you can say all you want about late night snacking being bad for you, but if i watch my intake its fine. Counting calories work, they have a set energie level indepented on when you eat it.

    This has helped so much! I have an eating disorder and have been stressing about calories, but its good that it shows how more calories arent as bad, because sometimes foods of a higher calorific value can be healthier than lower calorie options!!

      Your body doesnt see food as calories but as a intake of vitamins, simple sugar, complex sugar, cholesterol, triglycerides, fatty compounds
      You should simply avoid too much sugar to avoid diabetes
      Avoid too much complex sugar (bread, pasta etc) to avoid too much triglycerides
      Avoid too much cholesterol to avoid health problem
      And make sure you have all vitamins through the month
      Physical activity is also a must. 30 minutes moderate physical activity daily is more then enough

      You mostly eat for the protein and fat and carbs mostly serve as a fuel source so you won't burn your protein as easily. Especially fat, as it's also useful for making you feel full and making all kinds of hormones your body needs. Avoid all seef oils though, animal fat, butter and avocado/olive oil are enough really.

    there is a small mix-up with the units. you defined the calorie as the amount of energy needed to heat up 1g of water by 1C, which is correct. however whenever we talk about "calories" in relation to food, we mean kilo-calories. so in terms of energy, that would be the energy required to heat up 1kg of water by 1C.

    I've been counting my calories for about 5 weeks now, I've lost 20 lbs by sticking to around 1300 to 1400 a day. Not before I began did I realized how quickly calories add up.

      I'm a bit curious tho, how were your macros looking? I'm willing to lose the remainder of my weight loss goal (30 pounds from 138 to 108 and I'm at 113 pounds and I'm 5'4 rn✨✨) I'd like to lose a bit more weight just to be sure. I've had to swoop down all the way to max 600 calories daily, how'd you do it with double that amount lol- anyways congrats!😌👍

      @@tddupaid I've lost a lot of weight this way though. And yes I try to work out some days of the week and I'm honestly proud of where I am right now. Surprisingly to some, eating 600 calories (most of them coming from lean protein) may not be that bad. As long as you're not eating trash food, some people even go as low as 500. Don't worry tho, I'm completely fine doing this and am looking to be under consultation of a doctor. My parents also don't eat much, so maybe it's a habit I've somehow picked up? But I just wanna say thank for you for caring enough to give me advice, and I'll try to take it as much as I can❤️ have a beautiful day:)))

      @@tddupaid I'm so sorry for your loss. Honestly, I've read about ed's a lot and I understand your point. Thing is though, I'm actually doing great with 600 calories daily, this is the best my health as been so far. (I was an obese child so this change really speaks volumes to me). Some people also tell me 600 is not that low so I don't know who to believe lol🤷🏻‍♀️ anyways I'm still bettering myself so when I finally figure out a way to change my diet I will (it's pretty subjective actually) :)

      @@tddupaid I also CANNOT physically imagine how to eat at least 1200 without stuffing myself aggressively (I get so full after like 600 kcals, possibly to the point of inducing nausea). I don't know many low carb foods that can add up to 1200 lol.

    To all the people who don't like eating veggies or brocoli in particular, here is an advise:
    Try eating it, it will probably not taste good, but the more you eat it, the more your stomach bacteria gets used to it and the better it tastes. I am not joking. I have only eaten veggies regulary for about 4 months now and I can't get enough of it.

      Or cut your portion of food you like and fill rest with low calorie "fillers" like veggies, salads, watery foods which not only fill your stomach but require more calorie to digest than they give you back in calories. Celery is literally burning calories just to eat. Brocolli has barely any. Carrots is watery and good for eyesight. Water melon, apple, strawberry, etc and other low sugar fruits...is mostly water.

    1:10 Note the distinction between 1 calorie and 1 Calorie/kcal. Uppercase Calories/kcals are what we use in nutrition labels and are instead defined as the energy it takes to heat a kg of water by 1C, or equivalent to 4184 Joules. Lowercase calories are almost never used in labels.

    What I like about counting calories is that bad behavior is punished right away. Like yesterday I decided I didn't want a healthy breakfast so I ate crepes. They were delicious, but not exactly filling. So today I'm eating better so I'm not hungry again. Because of this, I don't need cheat days, I just have days where I'm full and days when I'm less full, but I satisfied my craving, so it's worth it. The days where I eat less healthy end up encouraging me to eat healthier later, not discouraging me by making me feel like a failure.
    Whereas with diets where I had to only eat certain foods, if crepes aren't on the menu, they'll NEVER be on the menu, which makes me sad and unsatisfied and more likely to eventually cheat.

      The best thing to do is to minimize the things you need willpower to do, so you always have willpower to do the important shit.
      If I'm not wasting willpower on not having foods I like, I can use it to clean my bedroom, or do overtime at my job.
      I don't know if you know this, but diets have to be doable for the *rest of your entire life*. If you're using willpower to get through it, you're doing it wrong.

      First off, if that's real, I hope you are doing well and are getting better.
      Second, what I was trying to address is the intention of said jokes, not necessarily what people may/may not make out of them. I believe that most of these ED related comments are posted simply for other ED sufferers to relate to, and in a sense to influence us to feel less alone knowing that there are people out there who are struggling in similar ways as we do -- without any triggering intent.
      I understand that it's inevitable for some of us to use/perceive them negatively, i.e. to trigger ourselves and whatnot, but on a positive light, a sense of belonging can also encourage sufferers to overcome their struggles together. I think it all boils down to which point of an ED one is in and/or the type of ED one has.
      We're all already struggling with something anyway (ED or not), and sometimes a joke or two as a part of our coping mechanism wouldn't hurt. Or at least it shouldn't.

    You can have whatever you like (within reason) so long as you stay below your TDEE. There's nothing wrong with the Big Mac at ~600 calories as a one-off, so long as you moderate everything else.
    If the Big Mac is your only meal of the day you'll still lose weight.

      👍 yep. As long as you are in a calorie deficit things will be fine. If I want a treat I have to earn it meaning that If I really want that extra patty or extra Big Mac then I have to earn it and burn 🔥 it off by walking 6 miles. I did that before with a Cinnabon. I walked 5 miles to get it and 5 miles back home…..1000 calories. And as a bonus I build a little muscle by walking 10 miles.

      Yes but if most of your calories come from, say, sweets, or fries, then you will keep being hungry and might get a headache, so better-filling food is good. Burgers aren't even that bad of a choice compared to their reputation.

      @The Monster Under Your Bed but quite a lot of girls have an eating disorder though. I legit had anorexia when I was 11. It’s not okay for people to self diagnose an ed when they don’t have one. It’s disrespectful to the people that are suffering through one.

      @Shahd yeah, I agree. Recognising symptoms in yourself is important before the ed gets out of hand. But to properly say you have it, you need to go to a doctor to get it diagnosed.

      @Shahd the best way is if you or your parents/guardians notice the symptoms early on and suspect the eating disorder and go to a doctor to have it properly diagnosed and conformed. I agree that the stereotype of thinness and hair falling out is dangerous. It stops symptoms from being spotted sooner. In my case, I was an 11 and a half year old. My parents only noticed I had an eating disorder when I became really thin and my ribs were visible. I was 27kg and my doctor said that was 2/3 of my healthy weight for my age and height (back then I was above the average height for my age). Back when my eating disorder started, my parents just thought that I was trying to have a healthy lifestyle, with exercising and eating healthy, cutting out unhealthy foods eg sugary foods. They didn’t even suspect it when I started cutting out carbohydrates.
