LEE SEXTON, behind the scenes from the film "Searching for the Wrong Eyed Jesus"

- Whilst attempting that Rubik Cube process of rationalising hard drives I came across this clip from the 'Searching for the Wrong-Eyed Jesus' shoot. Lovely old Lee Sexton, with his crystal-clear banjo playing, his alarmingly full spittoon by his feet, his big tough coal miner's hands, his nice new overalls and his delightful smile. He was in his world, noisy, filthy, rough and raw and seemingly untroubled by health and safety regulations.
Lee said he could play banjo and fiddle until the cows came home but sadly couldn't sing any more as coal dust had wrecked his lungs and throat. So when he suddenly started singing his 'high and lonesome sound' it was like the sun coming out, unexpected.
This was filmed on a crappy little camera, but I feel obliged to share this snapshot of a world that had already disappeared.
My child hood was blessed to know this man and his wonderful wife. He taught my dad to play banjo. Some of my favorite memories was meeting up with him and Ms. Opal at the dances.
Great person and beautiful banjo playing! Thanks for sharing this treasure!
