Thank you for uploading this. I’m turning 30 this year and I’m fascinated by the old timers. I feel as if they teach me so much even though I can’t speak to them in person. So many many things we can learn from them.
Astonishing. A great friend recently told me of a music project where she'd requested the musical members of her family record something that means something to them, to make a compilation of songs to present as a most loving (to my mind) gift to her aging father who struggles with memory. Her one nudge to those she asked was "Don't aim for something perfect. Aim for something beautiful". This sentiment has been living in my mind this past week, and this is such a great example of just that. It's not 'perfect' - there are bum notes here and there. A record company might go for Take #103. But the quietness and intimacy of this, the way the gentle melody pulls you in, and then that voice, so sensitive, deft intonation. It's so beautiful, it's perfect.
Wow. Amazing! I'd never heard of this musician before. Both the playing and singing are so artful. It's like having a ton of culture dropped on your head all at once.
Wow very intense that's amazing that's like probably my new favorite version of the Cumberland Gap besides Clifton Hicks but hey this one's original original so G LOL
someone please put this in the national archive

The best version of a song with innumerable fantastic renditions
thats plum beautiful
sound really fine lovely singing
That was wonderful.
I love it! That high lonesome howl reminds me of what Appalachian string music should be :)
I know I’m 2 years late, but “high lonesome” is how Bill Monroe described the kind of music he was making in the 1930s.
Most one of a kind version I’ve ever heard of this tune.
Love the sound. Need the lyrics so I can sing along
Outstanding sir God bless
Wow, that was sure beautiful.
