Tongue is part of our South African Christmas dinner every year.❤ A tip that I can give, you must cook it much longer, atleast 4 hours. It's not suppose to be chewy. It must melt in your mouth. It's great with cold meats and salads. ❤
I grew up in Sweden and we ate ox tongue often. But we salted it so it took about 10 days in the brine before cooking unless we bought it already brined/cured. Sliced very thin after simmering for 2 to 3 hours depending on size or until fork tender. Served with mashed potatoes. Made great thinly sliced for sandwiches as well. You can keep in the fridge for 4 to 5 days, freeze the rest.
In the Hispanic culture beef tongue is used to make tacos Del "LENGUA which means beef tongue so glad to see you tried it being from meixco means alot so glad to see other people enjoy making beef tongue even for it first time greetings from mexico
Pressure cooker is a key for cooking a tongue. Put in the pressure cooker for about 1.5-2 hours. Meaning get it to boiled and then lower the heat , make sure there is enough water. Strip it wile it's hot. Cool it down, then cut . Make a mushrooms sauce and when it's almost ready put the sliced tounge in to the pot. 10 - 15 minutes on a low heat to observe all the good stuff.
Don’t save me a tongue taco. I couldn’t handle that part of the cow. You and Granite are so adventurous, trying so many odd flavors with meats and veggies. Btw, Granite will break a lot of hearts as he gets older. He is so cute and such a fine, young man.
You can try grilling the beef tongue with some spices (after boiling it for 3-4 hours) to give it a barbecue flavour so that it's less gamey :) Love your videos!
how cool yall were able to take cow tongue and make into such a delicious meal! so happy to see the kids enjoy and willing to always try something new! ❤
First and foremost- HAPPY BIRTHDAY FORREST!!!!! Just sitting in my living room (in Anchorage BTW) staring at this big old Hamilton Beach standup 7 drawer freezer. Guess where my wife got the idea to get one??? Honestly not even mad about it. I may actually be able to finally find things in the freezer. Pork, steak, chicken, ground beef now all each get a drawer.....
Tongue is marinated with some spices like saltpeter and sodium bicarbonate to make it tender and give it a reddish colour when cooked. The skin should come off easily. Mum used to make this and serve it as a roast, sliced finely. Good if cooked well.
Ox tongue is my favourite dish. Mom used to cook it for Christmas. Mom would boil it in water to drain away the blood first. Then removed the skin. It was then cooked in spiced water and other seasonings we wanted for several hours until it is soft. We will make onion sauce and green peas.
We didn't have much offal growing up but mum had her favourite way to serve it. Liver was fried with bacon and a gravy added. Kidney was diced finely and added to cubed beef for pies or stews Tongue was fantastic. Mum had a press which forced it together and was able to thinly slice it for sandwiches or buns.
my grandmother loved to order a tounge sandwich at the local Jewish deli in NY. I never tried it- She passed away in 2007. I am always so impressed with how granite eats it all
My gma pronounces it like, "leng-wa". I have watched more than one beef tongue simmer on the stove, and menudo (stomach) soup! Yes please do a Mexican food tour! More than one chef has declared Mexican cuisine as one of the most flavorful ❤
the only food i ever eat with beef tounge is indonesian-chinese red soup.. I can eat that but not my favourite, but there's Indonesian fritter which made of beef's lungs.. Very delicious, crispy because it's deep fried
Hi guys, Kids and something new, it's always challenging, but it's definately how we discover new foods we love. This was fun. All the best Jacques Mexico
You want to use green jackfruit for vegan dishes because it has a meatier texture. It’s usually in cans and not frozen. Seems like there a lot of things that aren’t available in Alaska or it’s really expensive.
I think it would be cool to see the whole family go ice fishing and then either make Baja style fish tacos or traditional British fish and chips (with the mushy peas and vinegar and everything.) I’ve seen some pretty impressive ice fishing hot tents. Great video :)
Tacos de Lengua! While I have ate it before thinking it was pulled beef and really liked it I wouldn’t personally choose it. I like to stick to regular beef cuts lol Yes, please make it down to Mexico and try all the street foods from different states. You’ll be surprised how the cuisine varies from state to state.
My dad used to make tongue tacos lol they were so good and I was friends with a vegan who used Jack fruit to make tacos and “pulled pork” sandwiches which were phenomenal
Congratulations to your beautiful family make the great news videos your beautiful family love your kids learning cooking food thankfully ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🥰🥰🥰🥰😍😍😍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏✌️✌️✌️✌️🤪😛😜
We eat alot of tonque in South Africa we grew up with it, it one of our tradisional food for christmas. How we eat it is cold in fridge after cooking it then put some english mustard on it. Want to give you some advice after you cook it put it in ice water you will get the skin off easier. Enjoy it❤
Hi BP Framily & fellow Alaskans... Another great video, of course. The food looked DE-LISH. I've never eaten "Tongue" (I'm with Forrest) of any kind actually, but many people do enjoy it! Lol Just an FYI... There's a really nice Asian Market in Wasilla (next to Value Village and Franz b Bakery outlet. Also, there's a pretty fantastic Russian food market, all in the same area. It's a nice place to pick up "unusual foods" that aren't in the Chain stores. & Also, Alaskans call them "snow machines". I hear that's a big "topic" for so many. 😆 I'm a big fan of Three Bears. Through Kirkland (Costco) items can run $3-$10.00 HIGHER in price. Most times, it's cheaper for sure to just drive 45 mins to Costco to shop. But definitely in a pinch, it will just have to do! E have all been there, right. 😉 I just paused to watch Momma & Baby Moose hanging out behind my place, never gets old, right?! Have an amazing week y'all! Stay blessed.
"LENGUA A LA PORTUGUESA" , Portuguese style lengua (tongue), try it, you will love it! , serve with rice or mashed potatoes ( sans gravy)... I personally think it's the best version of cooked tongue. Great video! Your kids....❤...gourmet little ones...
No, tongue for me! My mother used to make it when I was a young girl growing up and I couldn’t deal with it then. I’ll have the veggies with Kelly and thoroughly enjoy it.
Gotta admit, the beef tongue 👅 skeeved me out. 🫣 I’m one of those people that likes beef, but don’t want it to look like the original animal! I don’t know if I would’ve shown that to little Forest for fear that he then wouldn’t be willing to try it later. (He’s stinkin’ adorable by the way! ) My dad was a hunter & I remember him bringing home squirrels & rabbits & I refused to eat them after he cooked them because I had seen them beforehand. Anyway, love your Alaskan videos! I wanted to move to Alaska when we retired 7 years ago (we live in the mid-Atlantic of the USA) because I love colder weather & snow, but my husband wouldn’t do it. So I’m stuck here with hot & humid summers. He can’t handle anything out of his comfort zone, whereas I was up for one new last adventure before I got too old & decrepit! 👵🏻
Your cow tongue looks different to ours but maybe it’s the lighting. in 🇬🇧 myself I boil it with I pinch of salt for 3 -4 hours. We peal the top lair off then slice in thin slices. Never had it as tacos but might try next time I get a cows tongue. Love from 🇬🇧 ❤xxxxx
Beef tongue is very good for tacos I cook in water with onion salt garlic salt and bay leaves start it about six or seven o'clock the night before and let go all night and it is ready by lunch turn the flame down before bedtime and it will probably need some more water early in the morning and let it go till lunch then peel the tongue then shred wonderful eating
I was given a tongue a while ago so I made tacos with it. Also made a heart like a steak. It was a little hard taking all the fat and grizzle. My husband cleaned it though.
Would you be interested in trying lambs liver? (lambs fry and bacon served with onions and mash potatoes) so delicious....1 lambs liver cut into strips keep whole width wise. coat lightly in seasoned flour, brown liver in oil just until brown them remove and drain. mean while fry sliced onion and bacon (cut into large bits) until 1/2 way cooked. add in chicken stock (enough to cover 2/3c approx ) then add a teaspoon of dried mixed herbs , scrap the bottom of the pan to release any bits then add back in the liver. turn the heat to a simmer and cook on for around 10 mins. add in a slurry of cornflour and water to thicken in to a-med thick gravy cook another 5-10m. serve along side creamy mash potato..... so easy and yum........ Not one for Kelly this time though. PS,,, there is a very fine membrane on the liver try to remover before flouring if possible but don't panic if you cant get it off.
I respect everyone taste. I'm just a normal beef type. But if there are no adventurous eater. The parts that people don't eat will be wasted.😊 Nothing is wasted i guess😊
you don't have to butter it just put tort plain n flip flip flip then add stuff . we make like 20 tort hot put in a towel n then assemble tacos fir k8ds then adults
Most Asian stores sell a large variety of canned Jackfruit in fruit canned section - rare to find in regular USA grocery stores. I periodically make Jackfruit BBQ.
when I was a lot younger my Mum used to boil up tongue for up to 4 hours then it would be put into a container and pressed, for couple of days at least, was always yummy as a cold meat with a salad. you really need to boil it a longer that a couple of hours tho
That cow tongue looked gross! I've eaten cow tongue once, felt the bumps of the tongue in my mouth and that was enough for me! I do love exposure to new things, good teamwork trying it!! Fresh snow is so much fun to play in and ski. Enjoy winter when you can. 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄⛄⛄⛄⛄⛄⛄⛄

Granite is looking like a big boy now. He has learned how to cook and is doing a great job helping out his dad😊
He’s doing great in the kitchen.
Granite's voice is deeper now, too.
The squeaky kids' voices are now left to reign with Cedar & Forest
Granite is growing up so handsome ❤ You're a great father & husband Jonathan ❤ Thank you for sharing your lives with the world ❤

Move aside Gordon Ramsey, here comes Prince Granite! 😂Such a great young man, he always seems so calm and respectful! Great Job parents! 😊
Forest's reaction to the tongue was so cute! Granite is definitely doing great as your sous chef.
Yums!!
I enjoy watching you cook! I’m not sure I would eat the tongue LOL but I am enjoying watching you guys try it!😊😊
It is my routine to watch your vlogs regularly. 🥰 I love this Family 🥰😍🥰
I am laughing so hard at Forest, I hope he tries it.
Blessings from TN❤

We absolutely love jackfruit and jackfruit tacos are delicious and we are meat lovers but love jackfruit 😋😋😋😋
I've Had Beef Tongue Tacos, They Were Delicious. Just The Right Amount Of Seasoning. Another Awesome Video, Can Hardly Wait For The Next One.
The fastest and best way of boiling and tendering a beef tongue is to pressure cook it .😊
I love tongue tacos, Granite will be a great chef...thanks for sharing!

The beef tounge here in Philippines is use in PARES soup it's so popular here the that soup
We use the suet for winter bird food perfect for holding seeds the birds eat

Jack fruit is available in cans, from Asian markets. Beef tongue: boiled in water, until tender.peel off the skin , slice and serve with salsa.
I’m not a big fan of tongue but I do know it’s better if you cook it longer. Crock pot might be the best option. You want it tender.
My gma pronounces it like, "leng-wa". I have watched more than one beef tongue simmer on the stove, and menudo (stomach) soup! Yes please do a Mexican food tour! More than one chef has declared Mexican cuisine as one of the most flavorful ❤

Raw beef tongue looks like geoduck clam 😂 When cooked it looks like some appendage that came from the trilobite in Prometheus 🤪
After boiling the tongue, I sliced mine and grill the slices. The spices I have used is salt and pepper, garlic and onion powder.
"LENGUA A LA PORTUGUESA" , Portuguese style lengua (tongue), try it, you will love it! , serve with rice or mashed potatoes ( sans gravy)... I personally think it's the best version of cooked tongue.

I love Mexican 🇲🇽 food it is absolutely delicious
I don't know if you remember, but beef tongue is used in a lot of Indonesian dishes. There is also the "sate Padang" where beef tongue is popular.
We’re talking about an Indonesia visit this spring! 🇮🇩
@@BagsPackedFamily let me know if and when you will be in Jakarta. If I am in town maybe we can meet up
Guys, try making lamb or goat choila / Choela from the meat you got from Costco in last video. It is a newa dish from Nepal 🇳🇵

If the tongue doesn’t peel easily means is not cooked enough. You can’t overcook the tongue, give it a bit extra cooking if in doubt.

Here in the state of Indiana it's pretty hard to find beef tongue
I do nachos for Christmas 🎄
Look for Jack fruit in a can. it mostly sell in a can, never saw it frozen.

Trader Joe's sells canned young jackfruit

Jackfruit you can get in a can (tin) it's not with fruit . I'm also a vegetarian. So you will probably find it with vegetarian frozen items
Most Asian stores sell a large variety of canned Jackfruit in fruit canned section - rare to find in regular USA grocery stores. I periodically make Jackfruit BBQ.
Beef is always great man & it's healthy too❤
I agree!
Grew up with tripe in Lancashire UK but I never could eat it

You should have started your tongue at 1:30!!!
My husband and my Mom and Dad liked tongue, I just couldn’t get past how it looked raw.
My mother tried feeding us beef tongue when I was young. But she cooked it like a steak. Not a big hit, it was not good. 😂
Beef tongues are very good very delicious and tender
The key for consuming tongue is to peel it and some people don’t and is very gross. But tongue is one of the most delicious meats.
hadir👍

has Kelly always been vegetarian? or is she just not doing meat for other reasons?
