  • Almost a year ago, I put together a price comparison of various groceries in Alaska. Well, I am at it again but this time, I included a wider array of stores and am comparing the prices to the lower 48. So, spend the day with me in Anchorage, and surprising @AlaskaCuttheCord to say, "Thank you!" in person.

I'm glad your FORD did not break down out there. The grocery stores in AK are price gouging you on many items. However a lot of it is due to shipping. We pay 1.10 -1.99 for dozen eggs in the midwest. Ground beef 4.50-5.50 a lb. is average. Milk is 3-4$ a gallon. When I go to TX, food is about the same but more driving. I been to Alaska many times, always armed. Them bears get hungry too. Smoked Salmon. Moose jerky. Bear stew can be delicious. Let's get cooking.

Im 71 now n living in Maryland but lived in Anchorage for 20 years back 1970- 1990 n miss living there, i worked as an RN in the Burn Unit n as a flight nurse. I got to more than 40 towns through out the state. Alaska was so different back then. Like only one small movie theater, just afew grocery stores, only 3 thrift shops, no large stores like Costco.I did alot of cross-country skiing n came close to many wild animals such as moose, bears, eagles n was never afraid. Animals know fear so need to be calm. I could write a book on all the experiences i had. I did keep a long journal. I miss Alaska.

Nice video. 😍 love how you are so independent. Will be 68 in 3 weeks. Love living alone. No kids too. Love freedom. Never owned a 🚙 car. Live in the sunshine state. Went to Alaska in 2004 on a cruise. Loved it. Juneau. Sitka. Tracy arm. And saw some glaciers. Beautiful Alaska. Lived in California at the time. We left from San Francisco. Thanks for sharing. 😊

We were in Alaska in July last year. Absolutely beautiful. It’s so nice to recognize a lot of the sights you show along Richardson Highway. We did the train ride from Anchorage to Seward and back. We had a gorgeous sunny day. So much beauty. I highly recommend that train excursion. We had rented a van and then drove from Anchorage to Homer, spent some time there and then on to Seward. After spending time in Seward, we headed to Denali National Park. From there we headed to Fairbanks. There we did a river cruise on the Sternwheeler. Also on to North Pole, on to Tok and a side trip to Chicken, and then Valdez. We spent the day on a boat in Prince William Sound. We also were in Palmer and Wasilla. So much beauty. Loved everything about the trip. Would love to go back.

Just beautiful when the sun is shining on the mountains. The Asian market was a total surprise to me with the selection and quantity of fresh produce in the winter time. Very impressive. HEB is a family owned chain in Texas and they are great people. What Hurricane Harvey was making it's way inland, people were in the store panicking and the employees had it all under control. Plus they handed out a what to do info sheet. Thanks for the shopping. ❤

The crab around 32.00 in shell, I am in Bay Area....62.00 shelled !

Hi Alone and Kenai 👋🥰It’s good to see the both of you✌️ Yes I agree on the pricing. Seems a lot of things are around the same price as here in Michigan in some places. I’m thankful I have a neighbor that raises beef steer and I get my meat from them. It rounds out to about $5.11 per pound of any cut. Recently it was $920.00 for 180lbs of meat (1/4 cow).
I shop Walmart and Sam’s club here as well for food staples and what not. We raise chickens so I don’t have to worry about buying eggs lol. Me being gluten and dairy free is a little challenging but over all it works.
Thank you for taking us along. Much love, stay safe, take care and God Bless🙏🥰🙏✌️

Hi Debbie! I don't remember what I paid in 2022 per pound of beef for the side of beef I purchased, but I am thankful that I purchased it when I did. The meat prices are so costly that I cannot imagine trying to fill my freezers from the grocery store. I rarely shop at Walmart and haven't been in a Sam's Club in years. I don't actually know if there are any in Alaska, but am thankful that I got a Costco membership finally. It has paid for itself, which is something that I did not mention in the video. I am glad that you are able to provide for you and your family with your chickens, garden and having neighbors who raise beef. Thank you again for being a channel member and watching the videos. 🤗💛

A real nice video! Thanks. You put a lot of work into the production. When I was a young child in the 60s my father considered moving to the Palmer area. I wanted to work up there when the pipeline was being built but my parents restrained me. Always wished I would have went. I have been to Alaska a number of times. I looked at some farms to rent in the Delta area in the 1980s. Several farmers from Montana were there and I visited with some of them. I worked at Bethel as a pharmacist in 1991 as a temp. And took some cheap Cruise ships along the coast several times. I could have made it in Alaska, but now I am old and it is a young persons kind of place in some ways.

    Miss Alone,
I completely forgot Rose even existed as it used to be at Townsite.
I'll have to got there next month and I will tell them I heard about it
    from you.
    Thanks, BigT

Was listening on the drive to work. It amazes me how people equate age with value/worth. There was a tool seller at a local flea market that knew nothing about antique tools. He'd price old broken rusty tools antique prices and his retort was always the same. "It's old." We are talking about broken tools that I only wanted a single part from to rehab actual tools with value. Anyway, I always enjoy the practical inside knowledge episode's. Good job, ma'am.

Hi Chris! I hope you are doing well. I agree about how some people equate age with value or worth. A friend once told me that something only has value if it means something to you. If you have a practical use for it, or if it is of some sentimental value. And that just because it is a collector's item, or old does not make it valuable. Even if the one off sold for an outrageous price does not mean that a like item will do the same. Either way, I am sure someone somewhere is willing to pay top dollar for these items. It just isn't in my budget. I appreciate you watching... or listening... 😉 to the videos. And thank you for your continued support of the channel. 🤗💛

When my wife and I and our 3 kids lived in anchorage back in the 70's and 80's we had one diary in Alaska for milk and other diary products. The other diary products came up from Seattle via hydro train (barges), I remember watching the local news one evening and the news person saying that the milk that comes on the hydro train has something like 8 days added to the expiration date because of the travel time, I am going to assume that other dairy products that came this way also had extended expiration dates. This revelation did not set well with the local people and caused back lash, I believe that after this the milk was shipped air cargo

I’ve been all over Alaska 9 times. My Son & Daughter live there. One in Eagle River , One in Chugiak. My Son is Vice President of A.S.A.R.C. Oil. My Daughter manages Providence Hospitals E.R. The prices at Costco are relatively the same as here in Billings,Montana.

That blue knit sweater looked like it was 100% wool with a brass zipper, could be $300+ new. The $139 for the set of bowls was too much! Great little store

I have an idea of my poxy living next to you. I am 79 years old and I was stationed @ Fort Greeley with the Army’s Arctic Test Center. So I know about driving snow and ice covered roads. Back as I was north of the range, not only moose and bear but herds of bison and caribou herds numbering in the hundreds…6 months of daylight and night was the worst thing to get use to. The those mosquitoes so big, that we had to build run ways for them.🎉🎉,to land…

I live in South Texas. I refuse to shop at heb. They are very expensive. I shop aldie and I shop Walmart. Aldie milk 2.19 gallon. Walmart 2.48 gallon. Costco is so very expensive also. Thank you. Pray for Texas as we fight to close the borders. We have had close to a million crossing the Texas and Arizona border. Thank you
