The fact that this guy isn't played on every radio station is absolutely criminal. An unbelievably talented musician.
In radio trasmitting only commercial, this sound is "criminal" in radio. Better like that.
Meanwhile garbage such as 'The Future' is making a shit ton of money... I guess it's better to be free than to obey a bunch of degenerates...

I don't mean this as an insult but he kinda doesn't belong on mainstream radio. A featured artist on NPR or alt rock radio but that's about it. Bluesy stuff like this doesn't translate very well into mainstream or top 40 stations unfortunately. That's okay though. Not everyone is into music as an art form and not everyone wants to be challenged by it. Some just want background noise and some just want something to dance and vibe too. That's okay. More talent like Shawn for us.
The fact this guy still isn't more well known then damn Lil' Pump or some shit like that is annoying. Even the lyrics in Shawn's song have a meaning. Truly sad that so many people don't know him.

This song actually has a story behind it when he wrote it. He was raised in a strict religious family and the church that he was in viewed him as an outcast and didn't treat him equally. He later left that church and after a couple of years later found out that his younger sister was also being treated the same way by the church.

@@chaseharrison5469 I think Shawn mentioned it before playing the song at Heartbreak House. The whole album is on spotify and he gives a backstory for a lot of his songs there.

You know, I think this might be my favourite thing about the artist. Every time he plays a song, it's slightly different. Maybe it's just an octave shift different from where it used to be, or maybe he puts less stress or more on certain words, but every rendition he does is slightly, just slightly, different, and it adds a new mood to it. This was more remorseful than the studio cover, yet more passionate than the woods cover. It's truly a pleasure to listen to.

5 years later and this is still a song I listen to multiple times in a row. The vocals is are just incredible!! The fiddle is near to heart too as my grampa was a self taught violon/fiddle player. He would have loved this song ❤️

Shaun wrote the song for the 2012 album Shadows, but it didn't get a lot of attention until he let the Last of Us 2 creators use the song for Ellie's song.. Shortly after the song got a ton of hits on here, and Shaun is now touring the US and Europe, and becoming better known. He is a very strong song writer, and super talented musician. i've been listening to this version of the song on repeat for a while now. The raspiness of Shawn's voice is just so addictive and immersive, i just want to keep hearing it. shawn james is awesome! just saw him and shapeshifters in austin june 22nd 2017. the best show ive ever seen! ive forgotten more shows than most people have seen
I absolutely love this about Shawn James his voice and his instruments are all that he needs, he doesn't need autotune, effects, or anything to alter it. It's just instruments and his voice which is what makes it so amazing, the lyrics are also one of the most important things and they just pull it all together. I hate how he doesn't have enough recognition for his talent
