Instead of fighting the current, it's easier to tack diagonally. You'll still be slower than on a glassy still day, but it'll be a huge difference, even against an otherwise strong-ish current. And you've got the perfect 'hull' for a better propulsion location. If the engine was in the dead center of the boat, your turning circle and torque would be optimal. Luckily, you can relatively easily move it forward a few feet! You could also use the baffle boards (or whatever they're called) as underwater sails when tacking. The oncoming current will be like a headwind, assisting the forward motion, it sounds unbelievable to non sailors, but it's basic fluid dynamics!
For years, I've been designing a modular pontoon boat/bridging craft in my head and sketched out, I finally bought a 3D printer and am making small prototypes, but I still need to get my head around designing on CAD software, it's so much easier to cut wood and screw/bolt things to it instead!
I usually hate electric cars and stuff like that, but I love this channel. Having a good time cleaning up the river and doing some traveling having fun and you guys have the best attitude. Keep on keeping on👍👍👍👍👍
You should put a second motor on and spread them apart as far as possible on transom. Then you can steer using motors only and make turns within the width of your boat. Basically steer like a zero turn motor. I know motors aren’t cheap, but would make much more maneuverable. Plus you have backup.
Subscribed. Had to. You two are great characters and friends that I find endearing. You all keep the videos coming and I will keep watching. Take care.
A cheap investment (from someone who was born on the UK canals and lived most of their life on them) would be two 12ft long 2inch diameter barge poles. You don't realise how helpful a long sturdy piece of wood is til you have it. Grounded? Pole. Need guiding? Pole. Steering/propulsion broke? Pole.
Your shit is so funny and entertaining to me keep up the good work boys. You guys should take your adventures to the grand River to Lake Michigan! You guys have a trailer?
Thanks buddy! We want to explore more, but we don't have a trailer... Yet! Also, the boat is 12 feet wide right now, so we'd have to get a special permit whenever we'd want to trailer it (We think).
Hi, not exactly related to this video, but which video of yours do you think shows you doing the most work to clear logs and branches from the river? Maybe a few videos to choose from. Thanks.
I swear to God if I ever catch any of you commentators posting stuff that ridicules the appearance/hygiene of these guys and their houseboat, I will immediately put you ON REPORT to Google's TH-cam Moderation Battalion for bullying and maybe even racist commentary against these great guys. This includes any sarcastic reference to their intelligence quotients. These guys are doing a hell of a service and any bad mouthing of them will result in a major report to the Battalion. Fair warning to all!
@@MoneyPitBoating Well, I can sure bring you down with the help of the Battalion if you don't put a like on my comment. That might be considered racist bullying by you guys....so tread carefully. Don't tempt me to file a report; and don't forget, I have a man-bun too!

It would help in the speed category, but the noise is terrible! We've found that everything is a tradeoff when it comes to boats... Thanks for watching!

Don't hate on electric cars, just hate on the people that want to force people to drive them ; )
We like having fun, so we're going to be doing this for a looooonnnnggggg time... Thanks for watching!
No reason to hate! Love those people for showing you what you prefer!

Was just going to say this. Wouldn't need full power either.
@@Skiddolsmight actually be more efficient too.
That would be soooooo awesome! We just waiting until we hit it big and then it's showtime!
We'd love to be able to test this!
@@MoneyPitBoatingTotally! Those motors aren’t exactly cheap.
You guys are amazing! I wish we had rivers like that here in Sweden.
Thanks for the kind words! I'm sure you have rivers like ours... The question is... Have you looked?!
You guys are hilarious. 🤘🤘
We're something alright... Thanks for watching!
With that current, it’s pretty cool that you were making upstream progress - although slow.

That is a wonderful idea! Thanks!
I still can't believe you guys haven't sunk that boat yet, I don't think mine would survive.
We can't believe it either!
"IT'S THE F**KIN' MONEY PIT!" 😂😂😂😂 you guys might need to do some new sticker design, hahahaha
