Once again, thank you Apollo to play my favourite game. This battle was so intensive combining open field and town action. This mod looks impressive with more realistic troops movements, and the scale with lots of line infantry and cavalry regiments. It was a great pleasure to see the entire battle and I can't wait for more videos of Napoleon Total War Napoleon's Eagles mod. Thank you very much.
23:35 - Actually, Napoleon was French because he was born on the island of Corsica which was bought by the French a year before he was born. He did however think himself more as a Corsican rather than French in the early stages of his life.
Waterloo & Gettysburg are two of the best interpretive battlefields I’ve ever toured. Well worth checking out and very humbling seeing where history happened.
The thing with Waterloo is: You are not visiting the real battlefield (like it was back then), since one of its main features, the slope behind and on which Wellington positioned his army, has been deconstructed to built the hill for the monument. Even Wellington was shocked when when he later revisited the place ("They ruined my battlefield!"). But the museum is pretty nice!
The house at 11:00 looks like a house we did for call to arms against Lionheart. It was hard to defend and we got slaughtered so I can forgive the British for losing there
I enjoyed this replay, reinforcements arriving at different times throughout the battle had a feel of realism to it. Some battles were decided when reinforcements arrived on the field. Was one of the reasons Napoleon was successful due to being able to coordinate his reinforcements when they showed up.
The Dutch were the ones that saved Quatre Bras, Wellington was at a ball in Brussels and he ignored the warnings. The Prince of Orange decided to take a look and there he met the French forces commanded by Michel Ney. He held the French back, even thought they outnumbered him. Supported by Brunswick he waited for reenforcements that came very late.

Perhaps he was thinking more along the lines of a good American civil war strategy multiplayer game which is why a total war 2 player ACW campaign would be fucking amazing so many new ideas and mechanics could be made to make it more interesting
Alex Warnke key words MULTIPLAYER and MODERN and that empire mod would be terrible next to what’s possible imagine a good map of the united states at the time and you could build and name your army’s and units or you have officers of units and you click on the unit see that units battles fought what turn/year it was formed all officers for said units lost to combat total deaths to the unit to make you care for those men and get attached to units or appoint and fire specific generals for bonuses. Or attacking and defending strategic points on the campaign map like driving the other dudes yanks out of the Shenandoah valley to protect your food supply lines or being union and taking it robbing the other dude of “the bread basket of the confederacy” striking his supply till he retakes it or being the union and attacking and beating the other dude at Vicksburg splitting the dude in two striking a devastating blow to his income and economy and giving a morale debuff to all his units in the western theater or building capturing and defending strategic railroads for movement speed unit replenish rate and better supply lines bonus or doing “total war” pun intended and capturing farms rail ways towns slave plantations Ports and destroying them doing a killing blow to the other dude economy if you can’t fight them militarily or building an iron clad fleet and strangling the enemy’s ports doing the anaconda plan preparing for the long game slowly draining their income making the early game naval engagements particularly important since they could decide the fate of the long game Or have the fleet float your army to a peninsular or coats to assault from the sea and push inland and have the ships or trains support you in battle like in FOTS Or even destroying the other dudes main army or even taking their capital to damage his war support and gamble to end it that way if you know you can’t win the long game or if it’s already late game and you just need to deal the final blow and take the capital which late game could be kinda a boss battle if one put enough money into the capitals defense multiple forts and earth works maybe some small streams to slow movement to get some good shot off your gonna want as much reinforcements as you could get to come in as units are routed off the map for the last big battle the last hurrah the larger strategy CA could do here are kinda endless and with a focus on supply lines larger strategy could greatly increase replay ability both players could do so many different strategies each time and the larger strategy is a part that has been lacking greatly these past years I’m 95% sure most of us here would pay big money for it but only if it were centered around the 2 player campaign

That was actually a what if scenario with Quiot's division included as late reinforcement for french assuming that Marshal Ney was able to recall D'Erlon's to help him. The historical scenario presents in effect a much tougher task for french without those 8+ battalions.

Napoleon stole a march on Wellington leading to the famous ‘he’s humbugged me’ comment by Wellington. Wellington wanted to hold off the French and move main army to Blucher. Tactical victory for the allied armies as they beat (eventually) Ney at Quatre Bras. Strategic victory for the French as they prevented the British joining the Prussians at Ligne, allowing Napoleon to beat Blucher on the 16th Hence on the morning of the 17th, the British retreated back for the battle of Waterloo on the 18th ... Wellington held, Blucher joined him, Napoleon lost ...
Fun Fact World War One special german units were even using the "Tontenkopf", or deaths head badge. Special trench raiding groups wore it on their sleeve. Before that, it was specialized calvary units that bore the totenkopf. That aside. Great Vid!

I've waited until the 20min mark, to make this comment, because you just did not mention the small british force flank in the woods at the french left - would have been a great addition to your assessment of the tactical situation. All the turning of the camera, juuuuust panning past this little copse without noticing the regiments in there - almost tore all of my hear out :-D
I actually don’t think an American Civil War game would be impossible. Archers actually take cover sometimes in Rome 2 and Attila during sieges, so I think that making trenches work may be possible for sieges.

To adress your point towards the end about video length. It’s probably fair to say that a lot of people who like NTW watch BECAUSE it’s long. I know I do - if this was cut down to half of it, as you say, the maneuvering and positioning is so important and enjoyable. This was a great game.
The idea of multiple reinforcement groups is awesome as hell. It's immersive, and it adds a whole new dinamic to the cinematography/aesthetic to replays, it's also RAID SHADOW LEGENDS. DOWNLOAD FOR FREE NOW.
Napoleons was succsessfull when he was there. See 1813 Germany Napoleon was poked to death by the Allies for where he was not the allies advanced and where he was the allies retreated. While i consider him great i still do not respect him any higher than other Generals of history like Frederich the Great of Prussia or Alexsander the Great of Macedonia.
Basically NE are historical battles played with LOC system, a strategical point (Line of Communication) that when taken leads to the rout of the army as you see at the end of the battle. Usually Loc buildings are in the rear and can only be taken if some conditions are satisfied (for example the control of a certain number of Victory Points) but for some battles they represent historical objectives that could have a crucial importance for one faction. They are set to avoid the chase for last units so boring and unhistorical in normal NTW3 battles. In this battle (I had the french right) we could not attack british loc until the fall of Heudelet farm in the right of the map. I gave Lepic a replay of a 2vs2 Ligny we had last month so maybe you can finish the Hundred Days campaign battle series.
YES! To the American Civil War idea, been wanting this game since Shogun 1999. Ultimate General Civil War is great but the campaign side of the game is a little limited. A Victorian era total war game with Pike and Shot DLC + American Civil War DLC would be amazing!
Love the enthusiasm Apollo, back to your 'ol self. I've never really cared from Napoleon TW myself, but I've probably watched more videos concerning this game than other matches of other TW titles.
At Quatre Bras it were the dutch with the prince of Orange-Nassau, crown prince of the Netherlands, who heroicly held the crossroad with the prince in the front lines. Meanwhile Wellington was giving a ball in Brussels, he did not see the danger of it, the prince did and took his hore inmedietly and rode to Quatre Bras
Really enjoyed this video. I like the long-form vids that can focus on the strategies being employed by the players, and watching those strategies being implemented. Please, more like this!
15:15 actually most of napoleonic battles looked like very long lines of infantry all fighting at once which led to very wide and intense battles so this isn't more realistic to see waves of infantry commit into the fight at different times. This makes it more organised and enjoyable though

This is one of the best Napoleon replays .The battle flows like a real Napoleonic battle. I fought this battle with miniatures years ago. The forest the British hold on their right is a constant threat to the French advance. The constant enfilade fire and amount of Allied troops threating to turn the French flank tied them down. The usual replays of end to end line of troops firing in each others face is boring.
Maybe a tactical victory for the French, but a strategic defeat. Napoleon defeated the Prussians at Ligny, but they got away because he expected Ney to join him. Ney was fighting the Allies at Quatre Bras, drove them off the field, but did not pursue them, allowing Wellington to regroup on ground of his own choosing. Napoleon was never able to destroy the Prussians and lost them, causing him to divide his force and send Grouchy with a 1/3 of his army to find the Prussians. Once the battle of Waterloo was engaged, the Prussians were already moving toward the battle, but Grouchy was no where near. Disaster.

Hey apollo, new TW player here. Just wondering which one should i get between ETW or NTW? Been watching and reading many review, from mixed to biased opinion. I do understand that both of them have pros and cons, but with limited budget (for now), which one should i get first?
Napoleon id say man superior mods and imo easer installation to. far superior multiplayer and battles. I’d say Napoleon would probably give you the most bang for your buck my guy
Isyraq Ummair well empire obviously has the better campaign but it doesn’t have a multiplayer campaign like Napoleon nor as good the mods so you might get more fun out of Napoleon but for single player empire for sure but considering the bad ai that would only keep you entertained for so long and empires multiplayer can’t really compare to napoleons. Napoleon has the better dlc with the peninsular campaign compared to the dlc campaign of empire the warpath campaign that campaign was honestly bad not much fun at all and the naval battles for Napoleon are also far more fun then empire and better maps so I’d go for Napoleon when I was in your situation I went for Napoleon grabbed empire later and had more fun with Napoleon then I did with empire

Napoleons was succsessfull when he was there. See 1813 Germany Napoleon was poked to death by the Allies for where he was not the allies advanced and where he was the allies retreated. While i consider him great i still do not respect him any higher than other Generals of history like Frederich the Great of Prussia or Alexsander the Great of Macedonia.

Basically NE are historical battles played with LOC system, a strategical point (Line of Communication) that when taken leads to the rout of the army as you see at the end of the battle. Usually Loc buildings are in the rear and can only be taken if some conditions are satisfied (for example the control of a certain number of Victory Points) but for some battles they represent historical objectives that could have a crucial importance for one faction. They are set to avoid the chase for last units so boring and unhistorical in normal NTW3 battles. In this battle (I had the french right) we could not attack british loc until the fall of Heudelet farm in the right of the map. I gave Lepic a replay of a 2vs2 Ligny we had last month so maybe you can finish the Hundred Days campaign battle series.

YES! To the American Civil War idea, been wanting this game since Shogun 1999. Ultimate General Civil War is great but the campaign side of the game is a little limited. A Victorian era total war game with Pike and Shot DLC + American Civil War DLC would be amazing!

At Quatre Bras it were the dutch with the prince of Orange-Nassau, crown prince of the Netherlands, who heroicly held the crossroad with the prince in the front lines.
Meanwhile Wellington was giving a ball in Brussels, he did not see the danger of it, the prince did and took his hore inmedietly and rode to Quatre Bras

15:15 actually most of napoleonic battles looked like very long lines of infantry all fighting at once which led to very wide and intense battles so this isn't more realistic to see waves of infantry commit into the fight at different times. This makes it more organised and enjoyable though

This is one of the best Napoleon replays .The battle flows like a real Napoleonic battle. I fought this battle with miniatures years ago. The forest the British hold on their right is a constant threat to the French advance. The constant enfilade fire and amount of Allied troops threating to turn the French flank tied them down. The usual replays of end to end line of troops firing in each others face is boring.
The British 17/21st Lancers also wore a death head into to 1980's until it was amalgamated

Maybe a tactical victory for the French, but a strategic defeat. Napoleon defeated the Prussians at Ligny, but they got away because he expected Ney to join him. Ney was fighting the Allies at Quatre Bras, drove them off the field, but did not pursue them, allowing Wellington to regroup on ground of his own choosing. Napoleon was never able to destroy the Prussians and lost them, causing him to divide his force and send Grouchy with a 1/3 of his army to find the Prussians. Once the battle of Waterloo was engaged, the Prussians were already moving toward the battle, but Grouchy was no where near. Disaster.
I haven't seen this yet but I believe it's going to be good and out of this world
Being Napoleon is such a funky fresh documentary. Also Burnside was a terrible commander. Burnside's Bridge was nothing compared to Fredricksburg.

Hey apollo, new TW player here. Just wondering which one should i get between ETW or NTW? Been watching and reading many review, from mixed to biased opinion. I do understand that both of them have pros and cons, but with limited budget (for now), which one should i get first?
Napoleon id say man superior mods and imo easer installation to. far superior multiplayer and battles. I’d say Napoleon would probably give you the most bang for your buck my guy

Isyraq Ummair well empire obviously has the better campaign but it doesn’t have a multiplayer campaign like Napoleon nor as good the mods so you might get more fun out of Napoleon but for single player empire for sure but considering the bad ai that would only keep you entertained for so long and empires multiplayer can’t really compare to napoleons. Napoleon has the better dlc with the peninsular campaign compared to the dlc campaign of empire the warpath campaign that campaign was honestly bad not much fun at all and the naval battles for Napoleon are also far more fun then empire and better maps so I’d go for Napoleon when I was in your situation I went for Napoleon grabbed empire later and had more fun with Napoleon then I did with empire
@@datguy8006 and what about ai, does Napoleon better than empire (on vanilla)? I play empire be4 on friend computer, and honestly, ai on both campaign and battle are so lame, which make me switch my attention from empire to medieval instead....

The reason the British routed is because they lost the LoC unit. In every battle there is a LoC unit and if you kill it, the entire enemy army routes
