Ex-New Yorker Reviews VEGAS' New York-New York Hotel & Casino

- Out of all the themed casino hotels in Las Vegas, New York-New York Hotel and Casino was always one of my favorites. In a prior trip to Vegas, I recall thinking it really resembled the Big Apple in much of its architecture, at least on the outside. This time, I was surprised to see how much the inside resembled some residential neighborhoods of NYC! Not just Times Square, that's easy to do. The Las Vegas New York-New York Greenwich Village section really impressed me with how well they captured the feel and the architecture of Manhattan, particularly the West Village area.
As this is a food channel, we set out to review the restaurants of New York-New York in Vegas to see if they got those down accurately. We reviewed a pizza, a bagel, and a hot pastrami sandwich, all quintessential Manhattan foods. Will the Greenberg's Deli in New York-New York Las Vegas compare to a real New York Jewish Deli? Or will New York-New York Casino Hotel turn out to just be a cheap imitation of NYC and very commercialized and not accurate at all? We'll find out together!

Nothing will ever top UA doing his 'sex face' during a meal and the waitress asking him if he was ok.
Hahaha, I've not seen that one 😂
@@christinebonner2822 it's the "Trying VEGAS' OLDEST STEAKHOUSE!..." video from a couple vids back.
nice
Oh god why lol
Right???....but I didn't know that was his sex face. 😂
Native (Long Island) NYer that worked in a bagel shop here. You may be surprised to know this, but many if not most of the bagel joints in the NYC area use blocks of Philadelphia cream cheese as their main spread and to create other flavors. Also worth noting, the brand Philadelphia cream cheese originated in none other than NY state.
UA knows nothing about cream cheese. Who knew?
@@mikeymutual5489He doesn't know much about food, in general. Real bagels pretty much ceased to exist before he was born. As a lifelong NYer, I have to make them myself if I want a good one.
NY pizza and NY bagels have that distinct "NY chew" from the super high gluten flour they use and the low minerality water. Reason immigrants used high gluten was cos the NY water was too pure and actually bad for bread products, so they in a way over compensated with super gluten flour that gives it that distinct texture.
Thank you for your sacrifice trying this food! Come back home!
At $5.95, Dr. Brown should serve that can of soda to your table personally.
Love the Vegas videos. Hope to see more traveling ones soon !Ike these.
Thanks! I'm glad they were well-received. The channel will still be based mostly in NYC and occasionally NJ/CT but I hope to travel for vids more going forward.
It's the New York water that make the dough different. Something magical about it.
You should review In N Out again since you’re in Vegas 😆
Nice review. Their West Village looks more like Sesame Street to me!
Haha, it wasn't 1 to 1 but I felt they generally did a pretty good job!
Former NY, moved to PA, 100% on pretzels. We love our pretzels, but....
what the heck, that is NOT WHAT OUR UNDERGROUND LOOKS LIKE, I've walked a subway tunnel (don't do that, kids)
Thank you UA for your posts--so very enjoyable! And thanks to 'Tina' also!😊
You can't leave LV without reviewing the world-famous Peppermill coffee shop, open 24/7 on weekends!!!! Ps that curved, high-rise looks like the LOOK magazine building on Madison Ave and 51st.
Great place!
Peppermill is good imo but over priced and you gotta order your sides. Biscuits and gravy was $25 and didn't come with eggs or hashbrowns. Blueberry hill is better imo
@@VivaLasVegasX Thanks for the tip. Which location is best?
@mrpeel3239 flamingo and Decatur is good but flamingo and Charleston is bigger and less of a tourist crowd. Haven't tried the east side locations yet. Pancakes, Crepes and biscuits and gravy are all A+.
Great review! That bagel with cream cheese ON THE SIDE was disrespectful to nyc lol
All the old Italian delis carry imported groceries; like Manganaro's on 9th & 37th in NYC, and Molinari's on Columbus & Vallejo here in San Francisco.
Vegas will make you homesick within 3-4 days.
Not true!
@@ivanr4300true, three days and I’m ready to go home.
I was hoping you'd get an egg creme at Greenburg's Deli. Having never been to NY, I was wondering just how authentic their egg creme is.
And pre-pandemic days, there used to be a Carnegie's Deli at the Mirage. Now, that's a NY pastrami sandwich!
Carnegie closed in NYC before the pandemic

Great review. I'm going out to NY NY Vegas hotel and got a coveted table reservation at the Golden Steer Steakhouse directly as a result of your review.
Great video, UA!
Love this video. Im.a Las Vegas native who lived in NYC for over a decade and I really enjoyed your viewpoint on the NY NY hotel in Vehas. I've been there plenty of times..lol..
Great video UA, especially for those inquiring about going to Vegas ! You should definitely check out the Bellagio ! It’s a beautiful hotel with great restaurants!
Greenbergs has been a long time favorite of mine in Vegas. Next time try the new york sky high on marble Rye! Lardo sandwiches in cosmo is really good too
We ate at the sandwich shop for lunch on our trip and it was actually pretty good, I had the pastrami and my wife had the turkey triple decker. It wasn’t nearly as busy as in this video though
Great Vlog UA! BTW I'm a NYC local who eats NY pretzels. The ones in Philly are different to the NY pretzels, much smaller.
Before all the Halal and gourmet carts showed up and bagel carts showed up, there were pretzel carts. It used to be hot dogs, pretzels and chestnuts. Then shish kebabs moved in. Now it is just completely differnet with these carts acting like restaurants.
All the breads were too soft from the pizza crust to the rye bread to the bagel. It seems like they are using cake flour and not a bread type flour.
It is definitely not kosher to put mayo on pastrami. It should only have stone ground mustard with a pickle on the side. You don't put lettuce tomato and onion on it like it is a burger either. The meat looked tender and good quality. I think that is what they focused on.
Great video as usual bud! As your channel grows I'd invest in better video quality. The DJI Osmo Pocket 3 is a great option for quality and portability. Hope your time in Vegas was enjoyable ✌🏼
There's what is considered the best steak house in Vegas at the circus circus it's pretty legendary and a must go to 4 sure.
Literally nobody considers it the best anything. You’re living in the 50’s
@monkeyballs512 it actually has a really high rating but I've never been brave enough to walk into cc 😂
@@VivaLasVegasX yeah, I know. It really was good in the 80’s and early 90’s, but it’s been coasting off of reputation alone for 30 years now. It’s super old fashioned. Imagine Golden Steer with worse food and none of the charm
Great stuff
Wow! This video makes me really want to try a new york bagel!!!!
I'm glad you tried the deli. They are really good. I was hoping you would review "9 Fine Irishman" at the NYNY. Their food is some of my favorite on the strip. If you make it over to Freemont, try a slice at Pizza Rock. They have the best pizza in Vegas.
cool review 😊
Interestingly enough, there’s an underrated bagel place in the excalibur food hall that’s decently priced. Wish i could remember its name haha 😅
I love the pastrami at Greenbergs deli, and the price is unbeatable on the strip. I get a pastrami reuben for a late breakfast. So good
MAYO on a pastrami sandwich! I would have returned it immediately, and ask who in their right mind puts mayo instead of mustard on pastrami. And it has to be deli-style mustard. It's like using wheat bread instead of rye. Vegas used to have Carnegie Deli at The Mirage and Stage Deli in the Forum Shops, but it wasn't quite as good as in NY. I still went there all the time, although I liked Stage Deli slightly better than Carnegie Deli. It was a little fattier. I know that Carnegie Deli was the quintessential and most iconic, and I'm sorry to see that both Stage and Carnegie closed in NY. I miss going downstairs in my midtown hotel and walking over to either delis on Seventh Avenue.
I’d never expect the food at NY-NY to emulate food from New York. Do Luxor next to see if anything resembles Cairo. It won’t.
Nice review. You didn't get a typical slice of Sirrico's pizza (usually more well done), and they messed up with the mayo on the Reuben (standard is mustard). Both of those places are great. The best orders are a pepperoni slice and a Pastrami Reuben, respectively. The bagel was from a coffee & donut shop, same thing as if you got a bagel from Starbucks. Stick to the legit places. The other place you should try is the Hot Dog place at Times Square.
Bro knows how to spend a winter😂😂
Hope you got to see more of the state than just the Strip :-b
Can’t wait
Hope you enjoyed the review!
The pizza looked horrible, but that pastrami looked delicious. (Mayo?? Come on!) Thanks for the review!
The happy hour tacitos at Rodriquez y Rodriquez are excellent.
Pizza Suprema near MSG is $7 for a burrata slice. Damn good too.
Pizzeria Suprema do make a great slice
How was the rye bread on the sandwich?
woah hold up, philly is the best cream cheese.
Since you're in Vegas, do a head to head challenge of best gourmet hot dogs. Buldogi vs DIRT DOG.
Buldogis is excellent and I'm trying out dirt dog today! Any favorites at dd?

This guy showcases all of them.
Do you people watch this video with the sound off. He said that the pastrami should only be made with mustard. He didn't eat the lousy bagel! He explained what was wrong with the pizza. Its a review. Lots of people go to Vegas that are not from NY. Great review UA
Love you, UA❤😊❤
Food looked good but home is definitely better!
Safe Journey!
Yellowbird Blue Agave Sriracha!!!
Love the street museum look! Royal BC Museum in Victoria or Campbell River museum. No knish? OMF-put mustard on my pastrami sandwich FFS!
The owner for Williamsburg Pizza came back to Omaha and opened one here. Best pizza in Omaha!!
I love philadelpia cream cheese i. From md also why u would buy bagels in the afternoon n why didnt u ask for another kind
I lived in the East Village. We hated Greenwich Village being called the "West" Village. Greenwich Village is for tourists. Third Ave is the border. There was actually a bar called the Continental Divide to delineate the East Village/Greenwich Village divide.
149th 👍! Hi UA! Dang You Tube missed the notification for this new release video.
Glad you still made it! Slightly earlier upload this time as I have plans tonight
Never been to New York but been to Las Vegas a lot. I'm now going to check out this place out 🙂
Dude save your money.
New York City is so much better than the Vegas Version
I like him very honestly, opinions
I'd go bat shit crazy if they put mayo on my pastrami, who the hell puts mayo on pastrami? Nothing but deli mustard on a pastrami sandwich. WTF!!!
Lotus of Siam my friend. Best Thai food. Chef has won a James beard
You listed the price of the soda and pizza…why not list the price of the bagel and pastrami?
💜
No relation to this video, but you should partner with someone since you can't eat seafood. Pastrami looked pretty good, lame that he mayo'd it up though! I've never heard of Dr Brown's, they must bring it in from NY at that price! I've heard _Sirroco's_ is pretty good, so it wasn't a surprise to me it was pretty decent.
Great video! Reminds me of how there are so many great NYC restaurants on the Strip -- they're just not at New York New York.
Which NYC Restaurants are represented in Vegas?
They have gone up. I got pastrami for 12 bucks and water or soda is free around the corner. 2 of my best under the radar spots are happy hour or prix fix menus at primrose park mgm or joes prime at Caesar’s. I get filets at both of those cheap. They don’t advertise the cheap price. Bananas foster at joes
If you think you are getting a New York City bagel in Las Vegas, you have already failed, LOL
Go to Bagel Cafe on Buffalo and Summerlin Pkwy. Much better New York deli with pastrami and 20 different types of bagel.
Nice one as usual UA.
Someone who knows, please tell me Las Vegas food prices have skyrocketed……
Buddy of mine was down there a couple of months ago and he said it was crazy.
That slice NEEDED to be put in the oven, one bite, then tossed in the trash. Mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato on the Pastrami...Run.
You’re from jersey my guy
New Channel: UA travels
The pizza looked anemic.
The entire review was HONEST, and I appreciate that.
Born and raised in NYC, I think that Vegas does a fun interpretation of NYC- especially that section that feels like the village. Great? No. But still fun in its own right.
The food looks like a fax of a fax
I think all of us asians know that the best Vegas food is on Spring Mountain road.
The best bagels in LV aren't at NY NY. Try New York Bagel N Bakery. But he went to the right deli for sure.
UA NY is a former spot for pretzels i was born in 1975
You’re not an ex-New Yorker, you’re always a New Yorker
The meat looked pretty good, no way was that a Jewish rye, and I'm pretty sure mayo on pastrami is *illegal* in the northeast.
It’s illegal in the entire United States, Canada, South America, Europe and Asia.
Who puts mayonnaise on a pastrami sandwich??? Mustard and pickles, C’mon man!
I hope you're not talking about yourself as Ex-New Yorker. I love that you're local (to the NYC area)
I'm still local to the area. NJ
too bad they gave you mayo instead of mustard, but that did look good. Have fun!
Mayo on pastrami ?? I might be ignorant, but who does that?
Me!! It’s delicious
5.96 for can wow I’d put it back
Fake bagel, fake rye, fake pizza crust, $6 can of soda, and passable pastrami. Las Vegas was always irredeemably tacky, but now it's repulsive, to boot.
True but Vegas has great food though. Maybe not at that particular place. Overall it’s one of the better cities in America since most cities in America have declined with empty downtowns as many people have moved into the suburbs
You filned that on Satuday Jan 20th.
Next time you’re in Vegas go to Ellis Island Casino and try the Metro Pizza there (and the Village Pub). You won’t be disappointed! 😊
That’s not a bagel! It’s a round bread with a hole in the middle! I guarantee you that bagel was not boiled first
I disagree as a NY'er. Pretzels are popular.
That pizza looks gopping, ditto bagel
Oh No the hat text is backwards in the thumbnail 🙁🙁
You don’t put mayonnaise on a pastrami sandwich. 🤪
You got the Ny experience and got robbed with the Dr Brown price
Maybe only New Yorkers would want the Dr Brown soda, so that was their way of making the total price more authentic...
Have to love this guy! He knows exactly how a,real new Yorker eats a pastrami sandwich. No cheese ,no mayo, no lettuce just mustard!
Yea Phila is a Pretzel & Cheese Steak Town and New York is Pizza ...
Yep! I'd say pretzels are to philly as bagels are to nyc
Bagels I didn't think about
that.
Pizza looks nasty and undercooked
AU, are u going to the Super Bowl??
Another banger from UA
Mayo🤦🏻
Can u sell that Adidas hat as merch
Im staying at NY NY in a couple weeks...excalibur is a dump
show me the lobstahhhh
You and Shin should collaborate.. why not?
Oh UA why are you staying at a dump like Excalibur. Should've splurged and stayed at the Wynn. If I didn't know any better I would say you like to gamble. First Atlantic City and now Vegas.
Ex-New Yorker VS Las Vegas...Awe fuck it!
