For Sarah to research the lyrics and music. It is a very old duet with only the orchestra backing them. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stabat_Mater Beautifully sung in Latin by Simone and Floor to a quiet appreciative metal audience.
The gentleman giving Floor the shout-out at the end is Mark Jansen (no relation, it's a common Dutch surname) who was Floor's bandmate in her first band After Forever. He went on to start the band that would become Epica (name taken from a Kamelot album) together with Simone, his then-girlfriend. They're no longer together romantically, and Simone is now married to Oliver Palotai, the keyboardist of... Kamelot! At the end of the year one of the main radio stations in the Netherlands airs the Top 2000 of (supposedly) best songs ever, according to the Dutch people (or at least the listeners to that radio station). You would expect some representation of these awesome bands you are reacting to now in that list, but no. My favorite band from my country:) symphonic metal bands are really a bit of a family here:) Floor used to coach Simone for example. Which you can hear:-)))
That's a myth about Floor coaching Simone. Neither woman has ever stated this, even though they have spoken to interviewers extensively about their musical training. Also, they were never roommates. Floor does credit Simone with helping her develop her onscreen look, though. I think people like to create this narrative of "Floor helping out her little friend Simone," when the truth is that the power dynamic goes the other way. Epica achieved a level of success far beyond either of Floor's bands, After Forever and ReVamp. In fact, about 6 months before this concert, Floor had to take a job in a lingerie store to pay the bills, and was considering giving up on music altogether. It was only with Nightwish, who were already one of the most successful European bands BEFORE they hired Floor, that she achieved big time success. Floor had been a working musician for 14 years at that point. Meanwhile, Epica was headlining their first world tour in 2007, only 5 years after Simone started singing with them at the age of 17. If you want to know more about these women, I recommend the documentary "Soaring Highs and Brutal Lows: The Voices of Women in Metal." They interview Floor, Simone, Anneke van Wiesenberg, Alyssa White-Gluz, and a bunch of other female metal singers. I watched it on Amazon Prime, but it’s on a bunch of other streaming services as well.
Epica is more growling. It is the Beauty & the Beast idea a lot of Symphonic Metal Bands are following. Only Nightwish is always doing Nightwish things ;D. For Epica take a look at "Design your Universe" live (Retrospect) - same tour. For me it is the most epic song of them! And if you like, take a look at Within Temptation! Check out "Mother Earth" (take: Within Temptation and Metropole Orchestra - Mother Earth / Black Symphony HD 1080p). Sharon is the 3rd fantastic female vocalist in Symphonic Metal. Then you have all of them - Floor, Simone and Sharon ;D - and don't forget Marko with "High Hopes" or "The Islander" or "Kiss while your lips are still red". Markogasms... 4 sure!!!!
Yes, Epica and Nightwish, Within Temptation are really on another level. Floor and Simone are friends already for a long time. My son met them in person. He told me they are all very nice to talk too.
A tidbit of fun info for you americans: Floor likes the band "Pantera" from Texas 🐱👤🎶👍 And I saw in a documentary the rest of Nightwish listens/listened to them too. On this song: I think it is one of the string of songs of "The Divine Conspiracy" 👀👀👀
Santa Terra is the 2. Song with Floor on the Retrospect Show the 1. Song with Floor Jansen is Sabat Mata Dolorosa also a lkddel bit Opera on the Metall Show
This song is actually about a suicide bombers thoughts.. well its proberly one of the hardest song to get the meaning from without knowing it, but thats the topic here, even the song sound quite joyful, but that made me realize that the topic of song and the mood of the song, actually also got a meaning.. you figure that one out yourself ok..lol
Ayeron Universe next. Centered around a producer/guitarist the project has great vocalists collarborating on prog-rock. "Valley of the Quees" (with Floor), "River of Time" (with Marco Hietala of nightwaish), "Age of Shadows", "Intergalactic Space Crusaders", "Everybody Dies"
They are best friends they've been friends 20+ years since Floor was in After Forever her first band ps it's not in a different language it's in English
Tom, I discovered these new music genres (Floor/Simone) across the ocean a little bit before you did back in October of 2020. I am still shaking my head as to what I did my entire life listening to music here in America. I have bought a serious high end speaker system to really appreciate these new genres. Again, shaking my head to what level of music these two "Queens" can produce... A good example is Floor's covers on her channel.
Another duet is Within Temptation ft Anneke van Giersbergen with Somewhere ( greatest duet ever) Live. The Dutch symphonic metal scene is one big rabbit hole.
Welcome to the Goddess zone. You have to see their other duet from the same show. Here is the link: th-cam.com/video/QqdvFPBGN0c/w-d-xo.html May blow your mind even more.
Music directly from Valhalla. Mark Jansen, Simone Simons, and Floor Jansen were old friends. Mark and Floor belonged to the same band, After forever; Simone was her girlfriend. When Mark left the band, he and Simone created Epica. That is their brief story. We knew that you would love this song.
Floor and Simone both trained under the same vocal coach (Amanda Somerville) and it really shows in this song. Their styles are very similar and blend together so well. Simone started singing symphonic metal after hearing the second Nightwish album, Oceanborn, so we owe them our gratitude yet again 😁 Congratulations Tom, you've just heard opera the way it was always meant to be done. Here's a list of American Symphonic Metal bands: Abigail Williams, Savatage, Saviour Machine, Skillet, Suspyre, Symphony X, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Vesperian Sorrow, Virgin Steele.
Great performance by my two favorite singers. Amazing band. Great songwriters and performers. In my country, the Netherlands you also don’t hear this music on the popular radiostations. And Epica and Floor are from the Netherlands. Thank you for this reaction.
I'm literally having tears comming out when I hear Sarah saying -"Thank you for opening us up to this kind of music". WOW ,that hade an impact. Soooo greatful that you are openminded about this. Much Love!
@@TomTuffnuts I would like to point out that since many point to this and then point to Floor's version of Phantom saying.. well Floor can't sing legitimate opera like Tarja. First off, The Phantom of the Opera isn't "legitimate" opera, it is musical theater which is different. She has, Floor that is, on occasion done a bit of opera. She has legitimate classical training and operatic training. If Floor is singing something a certain way, you can bet it is intentional and not because she "can't". If you and your wife would like to see Floor sing legitimate opera check this: th-cam.com/video/UeTyAZtV5wI/w-d-xo.html It is Floor singing the aria "O mio babbino caro" from the Puccini opera.
Yes this is truly Epic😀If not already suggested try something from Within Temptation’s Black Metal Symphony DVD with the lovely Sharon on vocals and full orchestra and choir.I remember discovering Nightwish and WT on the same day twenty odd years ago and Epica a bit later and have been a huge fan of this genre ever since
Tom, I knew you'd get to it eventually 🤣. I seen this morning you finally got to it. I did'nt have time to comment. When I sent you the link 2 or 3 weeks ago. I knew it would blow your socks off. Trans-Siberian Orchestra broke up. I found Nightwish and Epica and a lot more bands listening to the bumper music to the Todd Starnes show. I caught a band with an orchestra behind it so I went to TH-cam to see if I could find it. I didn't find it. Instead I found that the genre has been around for awhile. Symphonic metal has its roots I think to Dream Theater. It was 1990 or 1991 when I heard 'Dream Theater, Pull Me Under'. As you know back then we didn't have TH-cam. Either had it on cassette or CD. For anybody reading this post I'am not explaining CDs or cassettes because that means I will have to explain 8tracks and LPS and the speed that have to run the vinyl on...no. There are alot more bands out the but, Nightwish and Epica are at the top.😎👍
New you would love this, and suspected what your partner would say about reading the lyrics first. Still love to see you both. See you have already reacted to Jinger. Try Looking at The Hu Band, they play tradition Mongolian instruments in a heavy metal way(Wolf Totem is my favourite from them). PS Turn on caption to get the English translations while the song plays
Correction!! Floor is actually very very tiny - considering she is a goddess of gigantic proportions... 😉 By the way - those 2 ladies have done several duets together during the years - like "Sweet Curse"... and in Ayreon..
Simone Simons (the pronunciation of the Dutch ‘i’ is like an Englishman would pronounce the ‘ee’) Simone was pregnant at that time so she couldn’t windmilling like Floor. They are long live friends and you can see that. Epica did celebrate their 10th anniversary with a unique live concert. A 70-piece symphonic orchestra and choir will accompany the band at the Klokgebouw in Eindhoven (NLD). Especially for this show the band has invited the Hungarian Extended Remenyi Ede Chamber Orchestra and Choir of Miskolc National Theatre. Also, because of the great demand by international fans, Epica announced a live stream, called the Retrostream, on March 4, 2013. The one who was shouting out Floor’s name is Mark Jansen (not related to Floor. He coincidence carries the same surename since Jansen/Janssen/Janssens is a very common name in the Netherlands). He was in the past together with her in After Forever, the band Floor did started her career. Question: Who will enter Sancta Terra? This song is about a suicide commander who believes he will go to heaven after his dead, but he ends up in hell. But will he? At this concert they did another duet: “Stabat Mater Dolorosa”.
They do a second song with Floor at the same concert that hardly ever gets reacted to, Stabat Mater Dolorosa, it is all orchestral but Simone and Floor will leave you speechless after it.
Floor is 6ft and 6ft3 in heels. Floor and Simone are friends and Mark Jansen was in the band After Forever with Floor. Mark left After Forever to put Epica together. Mark and Simone used to be a couple. If you want more orchestra you react to Within Temptation with the Black? Orchestra. Mother Earth ,The Promise.
If you enjoyed symphonic metal with full orchestra and choir I can not recommend Within Temptation's "Black Symphony" concert enough. Check out, for example, "The Promise" from that concert.
I hope you are going to react to Epica - Design Your Universe (from the same concert). I love that song and I am quite sure that you will love it too. :D
Awesome reaction as always, when you get to the masterpieces of Nightwish, "The Poet and The Pendulum" (Wembley Arena) and "The Greatest Show On Earth" (Tampere), make sure you pick the versions with embedded lyrics and do those reactions with your wife, yiu ain't seen nothing yet my friend, those two songs together with "Ghost Love Score" makes up the Holy trinity of Nightwish
"the Holy trinity of Nightwish" - except this is Epica reaction. They did 12 reactions to Nightwish, lots of space to post NW stuff there, not here. Sorry, but this should be about Epica. They only have 2 reactions to Epica so far.
@@cancelled_user i know this is Epica, I never said anything about this being part of that trinity. Pretty sure I mentioned Ghost Love Score as being the third in that set. As it is very much related to Nightwish both musically and with Floor in this version it's not a stretch to mention NW here. Also, why so defensive? Relax, pretty sure Tom will get to more Epica aswell as Nightwish.
@@AlvenmodFoto Well, I'm a big Nightwish fan too, and I love Floor. But I think Epica and Simone don't get as much attention as they deserve. Yet, whenever there is a new Epica reaction, sooner or later someone starts talking about Nightwish and tries to steer it back to Nightwish and Floor. Like I said, 12 reactions to NW so far. That's more than enough to post all the relevant info there. If it was the other way around, if they did 12 reactions to Epica and only 2 to Nighwish, I wouldn't mind people asking for more Nightwish, but...

It's a place where your dreams will be slanted
And will always be
It's a force that was sent out to win you
Just you wait and see
Take one step closer to the borderline
Where night and day unite
This mortal coil I've gone and left behind
On holy soil
And you will not find me

Again a great married couple reacting. Loved it! Thank you. You are great together and kids too.
My favorite band from my country:) symphonic metal bands are really a bit of a family here:)
Floor used to coach Simone for example.
Yes they are best friends and both are Dutch
Not best friends, but yes, they are friends :)
Great reaction. Two great singers. Great band and an orchestra and choir. Floor even leads with her headswing. I need this in my life too my friends.
Perfection
4 sure!!!!
Nightwish doing Nightwish things and Versailles doing Versailles things by bringing neoclassical compositions and a male non growler.
Well, Epica doing epic things.
Song with Floor Jansen is Sabat Mata Dolorosa also a lkddel bit Opera on the Metall Show
You guys are funny together thank you take care 🦄💜✌
They definitely are friends. Simone has been on Floors weekly blog over the lockdown.
The entire song is in English. Seems like the wife might prefer male voices so check out Kensington and Direct live at Vrienden van Amstel 2020
Their new album is fantastic btw:)
Simon and Floor are great friends
Think of the stage crew here. They have to be so good to get everything right here, the volume, the mix and balance. Shout out to their skill as well.
As Rob Gerhard states: the stabat mater bij these two …..review it as a gift to yourselves (and us)
Great reaction You Both ...you're nu favourite reactors 💞 Thank You 🎻greatings from Holland to USA 🌺🇺🇸💥 🤠🙏🏼
This is the perfect example why i love this kind of music... It "born" just like that. It is write and arrange as a mix since the begining
So good !!! Just SOOOOO good !!!
POWER COMBO! Nuff said
Check out unleashed and design your Universe from the same concert. Floor & Simone Did Another song as well, Stabat matter delorosa
I'm literally having tears comming out when I hear Sarah saying -"Thank you for opening us up to this kind of music". WOW ,that hade an impact.
Soooo greatful that you are openminded about this.
Much Love!
You guys have no idea how happy i am to see her expand her music taste. Ive tried for so long haha
If you and your wife would like to see Floor sing legitimate opera check this:
th-cam.com/video/UeTyAZtV5wI/w-d-xo.html
It is Floor singing the aria "O mio babbino caro" from the Puccini opera.
There is an interview with Simone about Sancta Terra on Heavyworlds.com.
She tells about the songs she wrote for this album.(text)
New you would love this, and suspected what your partner would say about reading the lyrics first. Still love to see you both. See you have already reacted to Jinger. Try Looking at The Hu Band, they play tradition Mongolian instruments in a heavy metal way(Wolf Totem is my favourite from them). PS Turn on caption to get the English translations while the song plays
"Sweet course" with Simone & Floor is epic too 🤘🙂👍
I found that ReVamp video the other day. Floor singing the male lead while Simone did Floors.
if you ask metal and classical musicians . they will tell you the same thing they use the same kind of very complicated technic
Oh, now you both HAVE to react to "Stabat Mater Dolorosa"- same show .... :)
Totally, utterly epic ....
the netherlands country of opera rock metal female singers
Check Epica & Floor "Stabat Matter Dolorosa", and enjoy
Correction!!
Floor is actually very very tiny - considering she is a goddess of gigantic proportions... 😉
By the way - those 2 ladies have done several duets together during the years - like "Sweet Curse"... and in Ayreon..
At this concert they did another duet: “Stabat Mater Dolorosa”.
and "o" like an Englishman would pronounce in "plot" :)
@@cancelled_user
They do a second song with Floor at the same concert that hardly ever gets reacted to, Stabat Mater Dolorosa, it is all orchestral but Simone and Floor will leave you speechless after it.
Floor is 6ft and 6ft3 in heels. Floor and Simone are friends and Mark Jansen was in the band After Forever with Floor. Mark left After Forever to put Epica together. Mark and Simone used to be a couple. If you want more orchestra you react to Within Temptation with the Black? Orchestra. Mother Earth ,The Promise.
You really need to see design your universe from that same show and Unleashed and chasing the dragon. I think you better watch that whole show 🤣
If you enjoyed symphonic metal with full orchestra and choir I can not recommend Within Temptation's "Black Symphony" concert enough. Check out, for example, "The Promise" from that concert.
"Look how tall Floor is next to Simone"
"But Floor is wearing tall heels."
" ... so is Simone."
This song is actually very dark in theme and lyrics.
Y'all need to cover all 3 Project Aegis songs, The rest is mystery, Angel in the ashes and Collide and Spark, PLEASE, you will love them 😍
when time travel becomes a thing....I will be there....and in the future..2022 rock city UK ..i will also be there....
as next plz EPICA - DESIGN YOUR UNIVERSE (VIDEO) best song for me at this concert
Probably too much growls for them.
Try raskasta joulua, finnish metal christmas show
And Norther Kings, Marko is there! ❤️
Yep, EPIC!
Also read the open letter of Tuomas to Tarja when firing her.
@@joop558 agreed, for the Poet, read up on the back story
If it was the other way around, if they did 12 reactions to Epica and only 2 to Nighwish, I wouldn't mind people asking for more Nightwish, but...
and now the same one with " stabbah motter dolorosa ", enjoy it.
* Stabat Mater Dolorosa
hey , metallica did an orchestra album.. you guys definitly have that stuff..
Sancta (Sacred or Holy) Terra (Earth or Ground)
The whole song is in English guys. Its in high register where diction isnt the most important.
The lead guitarist and gentleman that provides the growls of Epica is Mark Jansen Floor's brother
Eh?
Stop it
The both are friends 😉
They even went to the same music school for a short time, if I am properly informed.
I don't think they went to the same school.
Simone is 4 years younger than Floor and I've never hear that Simone studied at the Rock Academy.
@@cancelled_user They were both at the School of Rock when they watched it together. lol
@@BaphoRez they also both studied with Amanda Sommerville.
@@cancelled_user You don't have to have a certain or common age to study music at the same time. You can start studying whenever you want. Even at the age of 40, 50 or 60. Age doesn't matter.
@@TomTomson81 Of course, but Floor was already with After Forever when Simone was like 12 year-old or so. At what age did they study together?
even the choir is is swaying you see that
Do you hear that drummer .......OMG !!
Just so you know, Simone usually headbangs just as hard as Floor, but she was pregnant at the time so she thought she should take it a bit easier. :P
You should Also have to try Whitin Temptation ft Anneke van Giersbergen with Somewhere. And highly recommend is Kensington and Direct at de vrienden van Amstel live.
Devin Townsend! Now!
Here you're talking about Poet and the Pendulum already. Please please please react to it!!
God bless the Netherlands, Any nation that gives the World Simone Simons, Sharon Den Adel and Floor Jansen is already centre of the Earth. Wish I'd have been Dutch, I would be taller.
Unleashed next?
