The Ohio river valley and the southern Great Lakes are a very good region as far as the natural geography is concerned. It’s just because the entirety of their progress since the industrial revolution had been invested in supplying North America with products, and the beginning of the global trade coupled with an era of particularly uncaring governance deleted that niche entirely, forcing them to rebuild from nothing over the last half century.

    • @xenotypos

It depends. Britain was definitely giving more importance to its colonies than France (who mainly thought of colonies as short term cash, and who was more focused on the European continent). And the 7 Years War had other reasons, Britain fought (partly) for Ohio but most other European countries had other reasons, even France.

Don't worry about being overloaded. It's almost impossible to retain it all on the first go, especially if you're completely unprepared. But the presentation hopefully gets you interested in looking up certain parts for yourself. Some teachers use the video in school at the beginning of the year and come back later with their students to see how their knowledge and their motivation is doing.
Bill Wurtz also did a video about the history of Japan which is also very good.

As quick as it was, I am glad he showed the Permian extinction. The "Oh f**k, everything's dead." bit. Many people know of the extinction of the dinosaurs, but only geology nerds know this bit. The Permian was the worse Mass Extinction earth had had before or since. 96% of Ocean Life perished and 75% of land life died as well. Why? Well, where modern-day Siberia would form, a giant plume of Magma erupted in a very rare eruption, something even stronger than a Super Volcano and it DWARFED Yellowstone. This Eruption is called a Flood Basalt Eruption and it nearly ended all life.

I love that so many people are watching this. I think a big part of us figuring out who and what we are involves learning about everything that we have been before. History is so under appreciated in our modern escapist society and it's a shame. If we can all read fantasy novels, surely we can read non-fiction and philosophy as well. I do, and it's actually every bit as engaging and enjoyable to read as any of that useless "wizards fighting dragons in the future on spaceships" shit that we're inundated with.
Some I could recommend: "I, Claudius" by Robert Graves (Roman Empire). "The Irish Trilogy" by Thomas Flannagan (3 books about Irish wars for independence), "A People's History of the United States" by Howard Zinn, ANY essay or novel by James Baldwin, "1491" by Charles C. Mann, "A Thread of Grace" by Mary Doria Russell, "The Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follett, "Angela's Ashes" by Frank McCourt and if you REALLY want to dive deep, "A History of Western Philosophy" by Bertrand Russell.
Pick one and give it a shot. You'll thank me later. Peace!

    • @monniebrown8581
      @monniebrown8581 ปีที่แล้ว

Do they have all of these in audio books?
Also, just be glad people read at all. Please don't be condescending, those fantasy and other books make people happy, especially for people going through hard lives and need something that doesn't look like the world they are living in.
It is awesome that nonfiction is what you enjoy, and I praise you for your pursuits, but try not to crap on what others enjoy.

  • @pppexplorer

The video is intentionally fast-paced because it is providing an overview of the entire history of the world (millions of years) in just 20 minutes. The idea is to mention the highlights, and then you can investigate in more depth the parts which you would like to learn more about. History is incredibly important for our young people (and all people in fact) to learn. It provides background and perspective on how world came to be in its current state. You want citizens and voters to understand world history, so we can learn from lessons from the past and avoid making similar mistakes over and over again. Well-rounded, intelligent citizens need to know more than how to do their taxes and how to write cheques. 😀

statistically speaking, history cannot repeat itself. However, how's this for an example of how it DOES matter? In 1899, the soon to be founder of the NAACP wrote a disenting opinion on the third attempt to end slavery and create civil rights that went like this: "Segregation is still a badge of slavery." In 1967, during the Civil Rights trial, there were two main factors that allowed for it to succeed. 1) was interstate commerce, which says that if a family member gets killed in Georgia, the remaining family will likely not return to Georgia, which means the money they might spend in Georgia will go elsewhere, distrupting interstate commerce. 2) MLK Jr. was silenced by the (insert alphabet agency here) for successfully bringing all races together, which cannot happen if the 1% wants to keep the 99% sheeple. However, since he ended up being a martyr for the cause of making the pressure cooker even pressurered, they realized that the 1899 disenting opinion might have some merit after all and threw that in to appease the pressure cookers pressurization before it overpressurized and turned into 1994 Watts....

@@antisocial_1123 We can literally date the earth to over 4 billion years old with simple carbon dating. We have fossils disproving what you believe in. I am basing my opinion on facts and physical evidence, you are basing your opinion on "faith". Do you really not realize how insanely ignorant that is? You literally deny physical evidence to believe what you want to believe. That is just as bad as believing the earth is flat if not worse. You are by definition a conspiracy theorist. Grow up. We get it, your scared to die. Doesnt mean you have to be ignorant.

@@antisocial_1123 "and we can literally tell you how the earth was made in the bible."
No, you can make baseless claims with no evidence based on the bible. You don't seem to understand what evidence actually is.
"and many philosophers have proven that there is a higher being"
Again, you don't seem to comprehend what proof is, and you definitely have zero understanding of what philosophy is.
"he bible is nothing less then the truth."
Except for it's objectively false and can and has been proven to be so.
What's particularly funny about clowns like you is that you think you were magically born into the right religion. You do understand that you believe what you believe only because you were born in a predominantly Christian country, right? If you were born where another religion is more prevalent you'd be proclaiming that religion is the absolute truth instead of Christianity. You're a sad example of the ignorance caused by the systematic brainwashing known as religion.

History is probably one of the most important things you can learn. If you don't know history, you are doomed to repeat it. For example, due to an agenda being pushed in modern education, many students are not being taught about what happened to people who have lived in socialist and communist countries during the late 19th and 20th centuries. The result is a huge increase in the number of young people who fully and loudly support bringing socialism and communism to the US and other western countries.
Maybe if they had learned that these doctrines had resulted in well over 100 million deaths in just 100 years, they might not be so quick to support it.
