Throughout modern history the end of a war has usually been marked by the signing of a peace treaty.
After the first World War came a clutch of such treatise.-Versailles and the rest-signed in 1919 and 1920. The statesmen then were criticised for the time they took to conclude these agreements.
DECOLONIALISATION
By 1949 it was possible to discern many future strands of development. Among these,at least as far as the WesterN powers were concerned was 'decolonialisation'. The Moral aegument-the right of the colonies to self-government-was now backed by the fact that the main colonial powers were exhausted from their efforts in the second world war. In the post-war years many colonies weree accordingly able to gain their independence,either by agreement or by force.

The mosdt significant internal developments in the thirty years after 1945,from the point of view of their effect on europe as as whole,were probably those within Russia,Germany and France.
