A fun fact is that Chiang Kai-shek had a good relationship with Nazi Germany until 1939, and the Nazi Germany sent military advisors to advise Chiang and supplied arms to his nationalist army. Chiang's adopted son, Chiang Wei-kuo, actually served in the German army until 1939.

I really appreciate the backstory they give here. Most WW2 podcasts just start with the War itself but it is indeed very interesting to dive into what happened before, how we got to this point and the different dynamics that were at play when Word War 2 started in the Pacific.
So awesome to dive into Europe for a change ;) though I think many people would be surprised to find out how much the Pacific and European events influenced another!
Officially, the pacific war ended in 1945, but in reality, it led to several more wars: the Chinese civil war of 1946-1949, and the first Indochina war 1946-1954. It's not until the 1980s that all the wars in East Asia ended, and after that, the region has enjoyed a period of prosperity and fast economic growth.
Technically speaking, the Chinese civil war never ended. Since neither PRC or ROC actually get together and signed a peace treaty or even a ceasefire agreement like the Koreas did in 1953.
@@ender8759 I'd say, "The Communists do not have the ROC's territory of Taiwan" Since ROC never really changed their name and are still technically in a civil war with the Communists.
On that Dec 7, my Dad and Grandma were at a matinee viewing of Citizen Kane in OK City when the theater manager stopped the film and made the Pearl Harbor attack announcement to the shocked audience. Hey Kings and Generals can you feature the internal politics and history in each country in the pacific theater. Especially, the condition of their government, military, and economy at that time. And show some little known or not always featured information on them.
