Looks sexy af. Just ordered an Alienware x16 3090, with 32gigs of ram, so I’m stoked for that coming, but wow this is damn near it in looks and the screen I’m sure will be a huge diff, along with performance having that 64 gigs, plus more cores and threads. Love your videos man.

I have the Legion Slim 7i 4070 for a week now and so far I'm in love with it! It's slim and has the same performance as other thick ones. I ordered it from Lenovo directly and they offer you pretty nice customization and at the time a 40% discount. You can even choose to not have Windows on it, wich I didn't need because I already have a license from my old Notebook. I paid abaout € 2050 for a i9 and a 4070, 16gb RAM (I added an extra RAM stick myself for another €50) with an amazing screen and build quality. For the european market I couldn't find anything better for this price.

Also have the Slim since 3 days. Its a more premium build than the Pro 7i and has nearly as much power. My old laptop took about 18-24h to encode one bluray with 30-40gb. This thing does it roughly 60times faster in 20min. I paid 2177 for i9, 4070, 16gb ram (+50€ crucial ddr5 16gb), 3200×2000 display and rgb keybord. If it lasts as long as my old one its a total win for me. Was looking at nitro, omen and blade, but this one was just the best option all around

I'm in the same boat. Had to sell my desktop and settled on the Legion Slim 7i 4070 as a replacement. In Germany, nothing beats the price and quality of it. I cheeped out on the options and did the upgrades myself for a lesser price. I do feel I made the right choice over a Razer or Asus laptop, which are more expensive anyhow.

Few years ago I replaced my old asus rog gaming laptop for legion i5 pro with 3070 because of the mux switch! Love to see now this product from them. They appear indeed to understand gamers! And as someone suggested 18” bigger screen and more room for cooling would be very nice!!

I'm very pleased with Lenovo's recent\upcoming releases. I used to believe ASUS was the only innovator in this field, so I was so surprised when I had such a hard time deciding between the Flow X13 and Lenovo's offerings (mostly the Yoga Pro lineup, I'm not much of a fan of gaming laptops).
Without reading the title, I would have assumed this to be an Alienware prototype.
If they actually managed to cool a top end Intel CPU, which is very difficult, while keeping the heat of a 4090 in check - kudos, very impressive.
I would love to see an X3D AMD variant, and since their cpus are locked, they could dedicate more of the cooling to the GPU.
X3D CCD with lots of cache for programs that make use of that, another regular CCD (even a hybrid one - like with the 4c cores) that runs at a very high speed for programs that prioritize speed over cache, and lots of cooling headroom for a beefy gpu.
Nasty amount of computing power on the go without breaking your back with excessive weight, who would have thought of that 5~ years ago, insane.

For travelling, I imported the Acer Predator Triton 14 4070 with Mini LED from the US when it was on sale for $1700. It cost me about €2K after import taxes and that will do me for gaming on the go.

@@NotebookcheckReviews It sure is thank you! I think this model is very much overlooked in the 14" gamer market given its selling price for the specification. The keyboard deck stays nice and cool while gaming and it has surprisingly good build quality. In HDR mode the display really pops as you can imagine. While the 4070 is not enough to drive the 250Hz panel, that doesn't really matter to me. Downsides are RAM is soldered, so stuck with 16GB, power brick is big and for me no warranty as returning it to the US will be impossible 😒 Also ports are not on the back like the Legion which is a bit annoying 😛

Does the screen affect the gaming experience in any way? Due to the 3.2k resolution you’d always have to either upscale to 4k or downscale to 1440p, right? So it’s either more demanding for the laptop than the display can show (4k) or less demanding but with a blurrier picture (1440p)? Or am I missing something here?

    • @NotebookcheckReviews
      @NotebookcheckReviews  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Not at all. You can also play in the native resolution with no problem. Most games will support it.

I made an internal watercooled laptop. I had to add 2 EXTRA fans because the lower delta T at the radiators made airflow convection less effective. Then, it was able to achieve quieter AND cooler temps AND overclock improvement over the stock heatpipe setup. 3 fans with thin rads on this just doesnt look like its enough for the loop to have enough impact .......
I really hope this laptop brings something special other than a nice screen and being a bit thin, unfortunately Lenovo made it so hard for this to stand out performance wise because the Legion 7i is already really good at cooling a HX CPU and 4090 at the limits of a single power adapter and nvidia's mandate of 175W GPU power...

I disagree. Upside-down motherboard, separate heatpipes for CPU and GPU, meaning that in scenarios like gaming(where mostly GPU will be used) or CPU-rendering(where it needs A LOT of power) the components will have access to less fans. There is a reason almost all gaming laptops these days have shared heatpipes. I don't like these ideas honestly. Also no USB-A ports on the sides and the headphone jack is near the back of the laptop, not close to the user.
Personally, I'd never buy a laptop like this.

@@blondegirl7240 laws of physics would say that 2 or 3 fans are better than one at remoing heat. There is no way a single fan removes a lot of heat from the CPU. Plus in CPU-only load it'll have to spin REALLY fast which means a lot of noise.
Not everybody likes using wireless, the headphone jack being as far away from the user as possible feels like mocking, they could have put it much closer.
Dongles are inconvenient. Why would I use dongles when I already buy a premium, top end laptop? It's not a thin and light macbook air, they absolutely have space for ports on the sides.
I wasn't talking about value, just convenience. And having upside down motherboard in a gaming laptop, which will be upgraded and cleaned 10 times more often than an office laptop is just wrong.
With an office laptop - sure, they are almost never upgraded and serviced. A gaming laptop is an enthisiast device that needs to have easy access to the components for the user.

Either way, regardless how it is engineered, thermal compound would either need to be liquid metal or easily repleacable. This also refers to cleaning/dusting-off the fans and heat-pipes grills. This is absolute necessity, this i 5K$ laptop, and it will suck stuff inside (and its perf. will deteriorate). Why am I mentioning that, because the diff in temps with Liq. M. can reach 20C, add to that dust and you are reaching 25C difference. If super clean, out of the box, it does not sit in 70C's then it will go up to 95C at some point. Additionally, it is almost impossible to create such cooling without adding thermal mass - which means - this should be a bit heavier than typical one (and more expensive 99%-grade Cu cooler). The overall design would have to be considering 'cleaning activities' and heatpipes could not be fragile and easy to bent etc. I am keeping fingers crossed for Lenovo engineers.

We can not do any official testing yet, but I would assume it will be on typical levels for such a powerful notebook with a MiniLED display.

It's pretty chunky, but its also 330W. The Legion will ship with a 140W USB-C charger, in case you want something more portable when you do not need the entire performance.

I am torn between this very portable form factor and wanting a bigger screen as well.
I am sure they just went with this panel because it is what is available. I would imagine there are not too many high-end MiniLED screens to choose from for manufacturers.

@@blackacnologia1263only a 1000€ cheaper? You can def get a 4090 7i for less than 4000€, while I think it’ll be some time before the just announced 9is will get regular discounts: so it’s more than a 1000€ difference.
Your right though, I’d also call this one a no brainer, since you could just as easily opt for the 7i and take that spare money to get a nice external monitor if the screen matters to you a lot.
