  • We took a 15 hour road trip to pick up a new engine for our 1960 Ford Fairlane 500.
This is a VERY rare car.
After we created the Enthusiast FB page, we realized that less than 100 are really known to exist, and less than that are road worthy. We are currently working on developing an online record of where all known are, and in what condition.
This is an ongoing goal for us.
Since creating the group, we have brought owners and enthusiasts together to share knowledge, parts, and information across owners. This has really helped to bring projects together, and ours is no difference.
Since starting the group, not only have I absolutely LOVED to see projects and the community come together, but people have come together to help with projects.
Part of that was hunting down this ford 223, an inline 6 cast iron boat engine. Ours is paired with a 3 on the tree. Yeah we aren't going fast, at all.
One thing that brought our project to an absolute stop, is its inability to bring us to a stop.

LT DAN, YOU AINT GOT NO LEGS
    yeah, nothing
when we got the car, a buddy jumped in and we took her for a spin. Down the road, around a housing complex, and back to my house. I live at the top of a hill that goes down to a T intersection. I hit the brakes which pulled a bit, pulled in, and as I approached my garage the pedal went straight to the floor.
    Like nothing
    nothing nothing
I caught it last second and jerked it away from the garage but wow was it close.
So we started looking for brake assemblies and found the same issues as with ever other part of the car. NO INFO, NO PARTS
    it was rough.
The brakes were packed with powder, and nothing we could really use. I tried to find full drum assemblies only to find out they weren't available, and they came in many sizes. I honestly just got stressed and stopped looking. It was likely the wrong option.
    but
I had other projects to work on and it was just stressing me out honestly.
So now that we went and picked up this new engine, which was REALLY maintained amazing, like the starter and alternator have been rebuilt, constant maintenance, and just a real enthusiast taking care of an engine.
After filming the first part of this video, I got busy, and on the day of the second half of the video I got an AMAZING message on FB of a member from my page wiling to send me his old drum assemblies. He said that the page had helped him and his daughter so much with their build, that he would be happy to help me out with this.
OMY What a truly great person
He lives just a couple hours away, and once our car is together I am absolutely, without a doubt going to visit. He just doesn't know it yet.
