I saw Simple Minds live at Massey Hall around November 1982 during the New Gold Dream tour. The opening act was Blue Peter. Here are some thoughts that entered my mind while watching this video. First, amazing that Jim Kerr remembered the first place where they played in Toronto, and also mentioned CFNY. Simple Minds fans in the Toronto area back then know that CFNY was responsible for the bands early popularity in the area. In 1982, Jim looked like a kid, but I guess I did too back then, but not any more. :) I miss Derek Forbes on bass and Mick MacNeil on keyboards. Two superb musicians. Amazing how Charlie Burchill can still play the songs exactly as he did back then. It seems that his guitar skills only get better and better as he gets older. Fantastic band...I still to this day consider New Gold Dream one of my favorite albums ever.
CFNY was so massively influential to New Wave hitting big in Canada, but also to Canadian New Wave bands making it big worldwide. Also the launchpad to acid, trance and techno with Chris Sheppard and Deadly Hedly on Saturday nights
Always loved Simple Minds.Mandela Day and Someday Somewhere in Summertime being some Favorites.80's ruled. I thank WLIR Long Island for turning me on to all of these great bands
Es uno de esos grupos que te atrapa y no lo puedes abandonar, muy buenos en directo, por Valencia han pasado varias veces, unos genios los MINDS 🧡🧡🧡🧡👌👌👌👌✌️✌️✌️✌️
I KNEW they didn't play it! I was at the evening show and disappointed that they didn't play this track - my wife swore that they did - thank you for posting this, now I can prove to her that she's been wrong at least once... But now I'm upset that we didn't attend the sound check, didn't know they allowed people in for it.
@@nyko3424 They are still doing it; I have a ticket for an upcoming show next April (postponed twice due to Covid); it's called the 'ultimate fan experience' and includes show ticket for a seat in the 2 front rows, sound check, Q&A session and souvenir lanyard.
Had front row centre stage seats at the Sony Centre that 'Sunday nite . Amazing show. Made up for the one I missed at Massey Hall. Too bad the whole original band was not together doing the tour. Looking for ward for when the boys return to T.O.
Well thank you for posting this. I made a mistake with my camera and missed recording it. I think I was sitting a couple of rows behind you during the sound check and the show. This was an amazing night- I was in an aisle seat and danced all night.
@@nyko3424 The 40's vintage style I wear doesn't make me blend in very much either I have been told. That night was my gift to myself when I bought the ticket- the start to life single haha. I had more fun that night than I had in a very long time :) I wish I could see them again but in Europe, but that part of the tour is over.
@@nyko3424 thank you, i guess their is probably no opening band and then maybe a 20 minute mid break, usually most bands play 19 songs for a hour and a half so i guess simple minds probably play about 2 hours. i got 3 t shirts and a simple minds key chain on sale with only a extra$1.68 foreign country purchase surcharge. this version of love song sounds better and more electronic than the old pre 1983 version. i guess it costs more to go to the sound check what other sound check songs and can you remember any of the questions and answers thank you for your replies also do you know what the word cladagh from the heart is translateinto in english
I grew up listening to cfyn 102.1 the spirit of radio
Loved warming up the house
Love simple minds
How cool is that! That drummer is awesome!
What a way to do a performance!!! So in touch with your people!!! Very personal. And THAT'S THE DIFFERENCE...GREAT
High energy! Beautiful people, and stage presence.. thank YOU!! IM RELAXING AFRER MOTHERS DAY AT WORK.. 12 HOURS
Love the energy Cherise brings on drums
That was cool. I got into Simple Minds from listening to them on CFNY back in the day.....God I miss the 80s.........
The 80's definitely was a special time. When the 90's came, everything began going downhill music wise, at least that's my opinion.
Spirit of all radio
Great days
Warming up the house
Loved Alen cross shows
Seen these legends in Newcastle recently absolutely brilliant
omg i was here for this concert, so cool to see this posted!!!!

A recording of Mick's _Jupiter-4_ riffing on a Random Arpeggiator opens this song still...
cool trivia fact
Love how casual it is but still amazing. For me the more singing off each other Sara and Jim the better. That lady has a great voice.

The sound check was an extra feature you could buy when you bought your tickets. Very cool and worth every penny.

Kerr is still a magnetic front man. That drummer is bad-ass!
girl power on the drums.......i like her, she's very good :)
Not as bad ass as Mel... not the same Simple Minds without Andy and Mel
@@TLucas3411 Fair enough. Mel was awesome. But I think it is possible to like something new and not in any way diminish what came before.
Grandi musicisti sono sempre attuali bravi
He’s a nice guy Jim ,comes across as a genuine guy ,meeting him next month 🏴🙋♂️
How good was that ..❤
Really good. ;)
Still sounding GREAT! I always thought this track would be a great dance remix.
Agreed

Charlie Bs Guitar is Simple Minds!
I saw them in France on July 2014. A new Drummer ? I loved Mel Gaynor..
This song really showed Charlie Burchulls chops!
NICE GUITAR INTRO!!!
Wish Jim would sing it the same way as it was on the single.
Still a great sobg though!
i heard simple minds played two seperate sets each night, how long was the first full set and how long was the secound set please

About 45-50 minutes each. 25 songs on total the played.

Were soundcheck tix worth it? Was there a decent Q&A? Cheers.
Adrienne Webb Absolutely. They fielded questions and lots of personal interaction. Would do it again in a heart a beat. 100% worth it.
@@nyko3424 Thank you! Hull UK, here I come.
That drummer...i want married with her...👍💪
Where’s the bass? Turn it UP!
Jim, Charlie and some cousins
Without Derek, sorry, they sound like nothing... So, under the Simple Minds standards that, at least me, I was spoiled with!
Not digging the new line up sorry , get Mel and Derek back and they would come alive again .
Not the same without Andy and Mel.
Get Mel Back!
