- [6.08] Gunbreaker Time!!! Gunbreaker is like my third favorite tank, I enjoy the class a lot, I just think that the others are a bit better and more fun. Also this guide is a bit short but that's because Gunbreaker honestly doesn't have a lot. Hope you guys enjoy the video!

Sqall is not a GNB, his and Cifers Jobs are Knight who happen to use gunblades
@@zirilan3398 If you're going to adjust your glasses at people at least get your information right. SeeD members are not knights but mercenaries for hire. They are highly trained specialists that take government and civilian contracts. In FFXIV, the GNB job quests highlight this as well. Squall ended up being a SeeD commander. That still doesn't make him a knight.
How to play Gunbreaker: Just hit your 1-2-3 and then tap your other buttons as they light up. Put all the defensive abilities in a row and if your health goes down just pick one and hit it. Maybe hit two if you're spooked. That's like it basically lmao.

Nah but seriously, GNB is my tank of choice. It's fun, stylish, and easy to pick up. Plus you get a gunblade. The weapon so stupid, it circles back to being cool. Lmao
I heard its somehow complicated and you need lots of button mashing, is it true? Or it was true but its now streamlined?
@@Alen725 So it's a super easy tank to pick up, but for high-end gameplay it's extremely complicated. It has a huge opener, and you need some serious timing to min/max with it.
It's only as complicated as you want it to be, and I for one don't want my game to feel like an unpaid job XD

I'll be honest. I became a GNB before realizing Thancred was one. I mostly did it to avoid leveling a tank and have faster queues for when EW gonna drop in a month.
It's honestly super fun
I wanna be a Gunbreaker so bad. I've unlocked the job but I'm so nervous about getting into queue as a tank. At this point I've done a bunch of fates to understand my moves, so I plan to jump in later and give it a shot, but this is my first MMO with the Trinity system like this so I'm super anxious
@@tamerxero honestly, tanking is way easier than some people make it out to be. I used to be a DPS only guy for 3 whole expansions (that is ARR, HW, and StB) because I'm afraid of messing up as a healer/tank. Then I picked Paladin up because giant sword from the earth equals cool shit and I like cool shit. I found that early level dungeons set you up great to learn the basics.
I play Warrior in savage now.
Tl;dr: You should try tanking. Take it from a former DPS exclusive guy.
@@anjayana6150 I took your advice and I love it. I'm still nervous going into duty roulette, but I'm an anxious kinda guy. Leveling dark knight now in preparation for shadow bringers.
There is one thing, though. I haven't done any trials. Any advice for stance dancing? Is it just something I gotta feel out?
@@tamerxero stance dancing is an outdated mechanic. It used to be mandatory because you're taking damage debuff when tank stance is on; you don't, now. The only thing you need to make sure is to let your Main Tank (if you're not the main tank) cement his aggro first before you activate your stance. This means activating your tank stance after the first 10 or so seconds of the fight.

Heads up- the continuation thing doesn’t change the skill so much as gives you an extra button to press after pressing it. It’s just verbage but I only learned last night at level 90 that burst strike apparently has that same thing added on or something?
You're refering to Hyper Velocity, it's a upgrade to Continuation at I think lvl 86

@@SilverforceX I don't but it's barely noticeable in FF compared to other MMOs like ESO. I just notice it playing MCH and for some fast dodging mechanics chained

Just got GNB. I play on PS5, how do I use Savage Claw and Wicked Talon since they can’t be used on the hot bar? Do I hot bar Actions and traits and manually select them in the middle of battle? If so that’s insane.

I get super nervous about tanking but really wanted to pick up gunbreaker because they looked sick as hell, and this video is a life saver! Great way to introduce the class and its basics without being overwhelming! Thank you! 🙏
So I installed FFXIV. I am an old school fan of the franchise and Kain's my fave character in the series, so I main dragoon. But I saw a bunch of players with gunblades and heard about the Gunbreaker and thought, 'I wanna do that...' But FFXIV is my first trinity MMO, and while weskalber did a great hour long primer on tanking, it's an hour long...
So while this video made me go 'maybe I CAN do that!' I'm still very nervous about being the tank. Any advice you can give to help me go from 'maybe I can' to a real party-protector, decent-to-good -ish tank?
Personally, I'd say hold off on jumping into alt classes at least until post MSQ tbh, especially going from a Melee DPS such as Dragoon to a tank such as Gunbreaker. It's not that GNB is inherently "difficult" to understand really (there's a reason it's jokingly refered to as Three DPS in a blue trenchcoat), but it can be jarring jumping into the responsibility of a tank role at such a high level. So if you're dead set on it, I'd advise heading straight to any training dummy you can find, wailing on for a bit while you adjust and organize your hotbars, and then take it into any of the low level dungeons with either some friends/FC members, or even just randos (while being sure to warn them that you're new to tanking of course. Don't worry, people tend to be pretty chill with newbie tanks and healers)
Don't be nervous. In fact, get your practice in low level dungeons where the skills are limited anyway. Learn to pull, position, and don't save all your defensive cds for bosses. I tend to pay more attention to the healer when I tank just to gauge if they're struggling to keep me up. If it looks like a seasoned healer, I'll pull more. If they look like they're new or just trying out the class, I'll slow down and pull one pack at a time. Just have fun with it. I'm still fairly new to the game and it seems to me most people are pretty chill especially if you indicate that you're a new player or new to a class.

As a black mage main who is also a controller player, I’m having trouble finding a good button layout, I’d prefer no to split between 3 sets like I do with blm, any ideas?
Was playing on ps4. Had a hard time remembering the concealed/hidden X-bars. Much worse when multi-classing...
Now im settled with ext keyboard, i can make use of shared hotbars feature.
Thou i still miss the fluid movement using controller...
@@radity11 I actually found a solution, I’m using stacked cross hotbars now. I put my less used abilities on set 2 and all I have to do is double tap the trigger to access them
That’s how I do it. I shrunk them a bit and offset the top bars a bit to get them to fit better. The only class I struggled to fit into that configuration so far was Dragoon because of the multiple combos really bloated their button count.

Have you considered an idiots guide to tanking, I tried tanking once and basically got yelled at constantly because I didn't know what I was doing and had to go back to being a dps for a mental health break but have basically never tried tanking again because I don't want to be trouble for other players and I'd really like to try playing as a Gun Breaker or Dark Knight, but I just don't understand what I'm doing sometimes when I'm tanking
GNB felt too much like Paladin for me and since PLD is my go-to tank anyway I didn't feel the motivation to level GNB.
Still a cool-looking class though.
Gunbreaker is good fun, but optimisation is a real struggle in savage. The main problem being that you must reach your 60s No Mercy window with exactly 3 cartridges and activate it on cooldown. It's not too bad, but there are 7 total abilities that need timing with your 30/60/90 second windows, and messing any of them up is a massive DPS loss and an embarrassment in the raid.
Then we have warrior which is just 'Fell Cleave go brrrrr' with no worries at all about timing for nearly equivalent damage and great mitigation.

Gunbreaker is the off tank Tank because of how easily it can pop like a balloon and how all major mitigations can be tossed into a better tank

They squished a lot of the buttons down for EW, a nice little quality of life thing.
My hp doesn’t drop to 1 It drops to like 150

No seriously though Superbolide right at the last few seconds of a raid boss, right where everyone is mentally exhausted and resources are drained, it is a GOD SEND. Save up 3 cartridges and pop your aurora, absolutely unload and that last pixel of health is done for.
