What an intro for a show!!!Zappa ,it's freedom when he goes into a solo like this, he's somewhere else, his movements are almost mechanical, his gaze fixed, and the magic seems to flow from his guitar so easily... we understand why he called it air sculptures... Thanks for your reaction!

Not saying anything new here, but Zappa was a genius - musical and otherwise. A fearless nonconformist, satirist - a true virtuoso and philosopher. Left an incredible body of work, endlessly fascinating to hear, even better to see live. Grateful to be able to revisit so many of his performances. Countless hearts broke when he died in 1993, age 52. So young.
“Music is the only religion that delivers the goods.”― Frank Zappa
    Well, he delivered.

Let the mad energy and the density of your creativity flow thru your fingers, Frank. Effin awesome solo. I can't believe I never saw this before. This made my day, week, year, life.

Zappa was on fire that night. He did play a little different than usual, less fluid, a little rough. But he mastered it.

True, but this is my all-time favorite lead in for the solo. The first two measures are very unique and I've never heard another version where he plays it quite like this, but this is the version I compare all others to.

    Something else, isn't it.
Thank the cosmos he was able to carve a commercial niche for himself in the, sort of, chaos in the music industry of the late 50s to early 60s.
One of his geniuses was recognizing the then opportunity to get his avant-garde pan-genre works excepted and out there more mainstream. Adding a little "far out" lyrics, and, of course, Far Out guitar solos, at that particular period,🥴😵‍💫🥴😵‍💫🥴😵‍💫 sure didn't hurt either!
What other serious composer has his body of work, recorded and published.
