No we have not given up Diesel. After the EV hype is over and in a while Dutch EV car owners will have to pay more car tax than petrol car owners due to the higher EV car weights. We will get back to petrol and diesel... :D
Well, before the gearbox they have pretty much torque...but then that goes through the longer gear ratios and guess what happens to the torque in the gearbox? The torque figure at the wheels is greatly reduced compared to how much ends up at the wheels of a gasoline engine car. The end result is that both are very equal actually...but the gasoline car can rev out and has more horsepower if you want to use it.
@@pistonburner6448the gearbox is the same of the gasoline cars, what is longer is the differential. The resultant torque may be the same, but the diesel can attain the same speed at a lower rpm, which makes for a quieter car at higher speeds.
@@gilsonrogeriolimaoliveira2807 That's a point I have never argued, nor are you correct. You are not correct, as diesels are more noisy overall and the difference in rpm is small. Also: as the diesels have a shorter rev range they run out of revs very much quicker so they need longer gear ratios...and their performance drops a lot at higher revs while with gasoline engines their performance increases and they rev a lot higher.
