Enrique Martinez Music - Greeting Enrique I enjoy this video and learn a few tips. Do you have any tips for getting a wide dynamic velocity range when tapping pads on the Akai Mpc 4000. I am getting 127 velocity level even when I am not tapping the pads hard.
Hello Ricky My name KayGee, i got mpc 4000 need some help, i know no1 hAS BEEN ON HERE for quite sometime but if u are still working with it i need a lil help
I've been a MPC user for a long time but there's always little things that you miss in your own workflow, so I'm happy to pick up some things in these tutorials and see how others work. I have been considering changing machines to something more modern, like a Digitakt but your videos reminded what a good unit the 4K is.
Well done! Another tip for 4K users @5:50 hold the Active button while moving the left or right Q Link siders will move through the sample start & end points quickly also.
I absolutely love that all of this is pretty much applicable to any MPC, so although I have a 1000 with JJOS, I can still use the same techniques. Thanks for sharing! These kind of tutorials will never be outdated :)
I'm now encouraged to start using my 4000 again. I might even take the 60 out the loft!! Thanks for a clean concise tutorial. Have subscribed - Thanks @ Peace.
just got my 4k in the mail today, absolute beast, no idea what i'm doing yet and need to get some drum samples ready but i can't wait to dive into this nachine
The mpc4000 is the best mpc made period. I own 4 of them. The fact they are a sampler z8/z4 inside and you can load akai5000 samples as well as E-mu libraries and connect a USB midi controller to it directly and play everything. It's a power house.. absolute beast
So great to have people like you creating new video content on a rare gem like this. I love mine - had it since 2003 and written piles of music on it from house to hip hop to phillip glass style orchestral. Thanks Ricky and keep on making them - every tidbit of info helps when you are entrenched in a particular workflow.
I have a 4000. Great tutorial!! I've been looking on how to sample on the 4000 for the longest. Can you do a video on the onboard fx , filtering a sample and the q links. Thanks John

I've always thought the Roland MV-8800 was the MPC Killer. Since getting a MPC4000 six months ago, it's hard to decide which is better when I use the 4000 side by side with my 8800. I really like the both of them.
Hello Ricky, Very nice videos you have. I'm stuck at playing my samples in a track. I did chop my samples and added to Program but when I play in Main I don't hear these. I figured I have to save in different tracks or sequence these first?
HOW YOU DOING RICKY -- I JUST WANTED TO SAY THANKS FOR THE TUTORIAL -- WELL DONE -- IM A MPC FANATIC -- I HAVE EVERY SINGLE MPC THAT BEEN RELEASED -- I LOVE THEM AND HAD UPGRADED THEM ALL
Hey RT, thanks man. Nice video. How would the mpc 4000 be as a DAW? I've got a little Roland synth, guitar and other stuff I want to record different tracks and takes from. Along with some vocals, then "perform" a song on an MPC and record the performance, and then tweak the performance. If that's possible on an MPC. (Ableton just doesn't feel right for me, putting this all together.)
I currently use it as a DAW. And it works. But it’s a little tricky at times and you have to really think about the way you record things in and how you play them out. For example for the record a baseline you have to make sure you trigger that loop correctly in time. It’s really fun but it’s not like a traditional DAW where you have stems and you arrange them and what not you do technically have to sort of play them in
Hey man, awesome videos. Do u all think the MPC 4000 is a good choice today in this day and age? I grew up hardware and that's how my brain is wired. Been using Maschine for years now, but found a good deal locally for a 4000 or 5000 and I'm thinking of grabbing one.
Mr Automatech yo! For me personally, I’ve never had a piece of gear resonate with me so much. The 4000 is def the best of the MPCs when it comes to doing everything you would need in a DAW. if you can find one under $700ish I’d say grab it!
Enrique Martinez Thanks! Yea think I'm gonna grab the 4000 and get away from the computer a bit. It does seem to have a lot of features for when it was released. I slept on these units big time. Watching all ur videos now, much appreciated.
I just pulled my 4k out of my mother's basement after like 10+ years. It needed some repairs, which I managed to do myself, and now it's working well again (except for some lines across the screen, which I'll be replacing soonish). I'm psyched to get back into using this old friend. Do you have any video where you explain why you switched to the 3k?
Rickey Tinez I have somebody offering me a trade of their MPC 4000 for my MPC Live. Right now my MPC Live is worth more than the MPC 4000, but I'm not sure which will retain it's value better. Both units have their advantages and disadvantages... Portability and power across the board for the MPC Live (Plug-ins in a stand-alone MPC), and more midi control and a better sample engine for the MPC 4000. Both my MPC Live and his MPC 4000 are in excellent physical and working conditions. My question to you is would you make this trade if you were in my shoes? Does the behemoth size of the MPC 4000 make it less future proof since the future of technology is to make gear smaller for more studio space, and more portable, while at the same time being more powerful on paper???
Good video... Bro, on the 4000, I have a beat in song mode. I can't for the life of me find out how to go convert the song to wav so I can listen to it in the ride......any help is appreciated.
I have 2 question: why is the 4000 your favorite? What makes it special over other MPCs? Second: do you think it’s a good machine for live as well, or is it really more intended for production? Asking because I saw one on Craigslist at a fair price and I’m. Wondering ...🤔
I think the 4000 is my favorite because it offers the most flexibility but it still has a bit of that old-school sound and old-school feel. I'm actually in the middle of setting it up for a live set and it's pretty tricky, but once you understand the way it works it's pretty simple. It's a beast in a studio and can easily run your entire setup. what is a fair price?
@@RickyTinez oh its cheap, I'm not telling you otherwise you'd drive down to SD and snatch it 😉😊😂... Kidding aside, it's at least 100 less than the next lowest price I've seen around, am 1/2 of the highest. It's not what I was looking to add next, but it almost seems like too good to pass
If anyone can answer this question for me it would be awesome. I understand what the 4K. Pretty much understand the different functionality between the MPCs. To the most extreme what makes the 4K extremely different? Then even say the newer MPC live.
Hi Ricky, I Couldn't audition a retail audio CD in the load sample page. Can I sample retail CD's from the internal CD drive ? Or is it strictly for sampling WAV files ?
Hey Enrique, loving your vids man.....you break stuff down so perfectly, brilliant tutorials! I've had a 4000 for a while now and was trying to figure out how to chop and program drums in the style of DJ Shadow and Amon Tobin......just finding it super hard to find any valid info out there on the web, it's beyond esoteric! I'm guessing Shadow programmed a lot of his drum hits without quantise.....but, on the 4000 this means your hits don't show up on the step editor, so you can't manipulate anything after you're done recording?! I don't know, maybe I've got something wrong....I really do love the MPC, but I'm finding it really frustrating to try and program drums that sound natural and flow like a real break... I've been trying to emulate Shadow's 'Lost & Found' by chopping up the U2 Bloody Sunday break, but I just keep scratching my head when I can't get it to work out. My attempts are always clumsy and don't line up right.....it's sooo annoying! Any pointers before I ditch the MPC and give up trying to write beats....?! Any info would be much appreciated........peace X
Dandroid5000 don’t ditch it!! I had that saaammeee issue. But check this, after you’ve recorded stuff into the sequencer unquantized, hit the time correct button and set it to anything (1/16 works well) and it should show you where your hits are A LOT easier. And once you’re lined up with the hit you want to correct, turn off time correction and it’ll be hovering near that note information. Make sense? After that highlight the black circle and select the move F1-6 button and adjust the numbers. They take a second to get used to but it’s not bad
Oh man, I can't thank you enough.......I'm gonna turn it on right now and have a play, ha!!! I don't spend nearly enough time sampling these days, just so busy....and the times that I do turn the sampler on I usually just end up getting so bummed out over my clumsy beats! Thanks Enrique, any time you feel like doing a few more vids on the 4000 I'll be front row with my popcorn.......cheers!

I can't seem to get the hang of this thing. I've had my 4000 for a couple of months, but I'm getting very frustrated with the menu diving. I downloaded the manual, but it's not very clear. Also my knowledge of the MPC is extremely limited. Can u help me please?
doing everything exactly like you're doing, literally word for word. When I get to the end I create the program go to main, select the program1 then check the pads and the samples did not transfer with me
Part 1 - “sample name” would be it. The samples get thrown into another program not program 1. So in my case they got put into “sample” highlight program 1 near the part selection and spin jog wheel

You’re name is my name too,(actually it’s my dads.) If you were to invest in any single MPC what would it be, which has your favorite workflow and what has the best longevity/maintenance? Is it this one?
Erin Ramona Martinez it’s a great name! If I had to choose just one it would definitely be the 4000. Just because it still has the classic MPC sound but it’s really easy to use and super flexible. Buuuuttt it’s massive haha, so if space is an issue I’d say get the 2500 it still sounds pretty good and isn’t too big, it does so much. And if space is really an issue get a 1000 and you’d be set! But of course these are all just opinions :)
Enrique... I all ready found my sound on my mpc4000,, i luv my beats and all,, but im struggle to find that master Just on output to a daw,,, i put on ozone five to get some preset but (sonny is missing) a cant get fat sound like i see around.. Is the only way is pass sound by sound to the daw?? Peace
Whats up Marcio. yea pretty much unless you want to install the 8output expansion card which is really easy. you'll only be stuck with sending a single sound over one at a time :/
Do I have to click "keep this recording" only when trying to edit it? When I clicked "Keeps and adds to program" and tried to trim the start and end of a sample it wouldn't play on the points on the "to/from" pads?
Man please help me I'm going crazy, I have a 4000 and I'm hitting myself like this, I made my drums track 1 = drum, track 2 snare and etc ... then when I'm going to use the slice for 16 slices they go in the place of battery in program 1 and part 1, I have tried several and do not maintain that asign one by one a help please and thanks. Sorry my english
Rick please help me, I'm having problems with my 4000, I put a bass on one of the pads and I use the 16 levels ok, only when I hit one pad and I go to the other one to stop ... any ideas for please thank you
yo idk what's wrong with my MPC 4000 but I'm sampling from my record player and there's a ridiculous amount of distortion. I have everything set to basically zero. any ideas
There’s a switch on the back to make sure you’re not going from line or tomato, and the other thing to check would be the sensitivity level. I always have mine on low for the most part.
Here is what I would do to save me tons of time: Instead of using this machine, I would record my loop or whatever sound into my DAW. Then edit everything about my loop in my DAW. Then get a sampler (many are free online for Windows), and put your finished and edited loop into each Sampler channel. That way I don't have to be following a long maze of menus in an old style machine like this one AND I would save a thousand dollars not having to buy this Akai MPC 4000.
ill buy your live, you can have your 4k this week... there all over, i have a man selling one here in memphis right now on craigslist which brought me here. Never knew much about the 4k
So note repeat is a weird one. It needs the MPC to be playing in order for it to work. Also make sure time correction is on. If time correction is set to 1/16, note repeat will play 1/16 while the sequencer is running. Make sense??
if this mpc4000 breaks were can u send it to get it fixed?? i mean akai doesnt make them anymore just like the company doesnt make the ASR-10 my mpc3000 went out and its crazy they dont have a company to fix them

I have a mpc 4000 and don’t have a wanted to sample a song could you help me with that?
❤❤❤❤❤thanks bro
Good video
Man please help me I'm going crazy, I have a 4000 and I'm hitting myself like this, I made my drums track 1 = drum, track 2 snare and etc ... then when I'm going to use the slice for 16 slices they go in the place of battery in program 1 and part 1, I have tried several and do not maintain that asign one by one a help please and thanks. Sorry my english
Rick please help me, I'm having problems with my 4000, I put a bass on one of the pads and I use the 16 levels ok, only when I hit one pad and I go to the other one to stop ... any ideas for please thank you
Change pad settings to note on instead of one shot.
yo idk what's wrong with my MPC 4000 but I'm sampling from my record player and there's a ridiculous amount of distortion. I have everything set to basically zero. any ideas
There’s a switch on the back to make sure you’re not going from line or tomato, and the other thing to check would be the sensitivity level. I always have mine on low for the most part.
Good video, thanks, if you speak Spanish can be make tutorials in that language, thanks.
How do you get rid of the pops off of the chops?
what is the best mpc to get from the mpc 500 to 5000
2000 , 2000xl , 2500, 3000 , 4000 all valid.
Why does my 4k skip the time field for recording?? i cant set my time limit for sampling
Anyone know why all my samples playing back are just white noise?
How come you didn't used the pause play buttons at the right hand lower side
?
Award.
nice to see people still enjoying this kinda lost art...but why sampling drumz and instrument at once ...?
Why hasn’t anyone talked about recycle the classic program
Here is what I would do to save me tons of time:
Instead of using this machine, I would record my loop or whatever sound into my DAW. Then edit everything about my loop in my DAW. Then get a sampler (many are free online for Windows), and put your finished and edited loop into each Sampler channel. That way I don't have to be following a long maze of menus in an old style machine like this one AND I would save a thousand dollars not having to buy this Akai MPC 4000.
have you ever used an MPC 1000 w/ JJOS?
man... i had it , dont compare it to the 4k please lol
@@MrJayperz not comparing it, I was just wondering cuz if he had cuz Enrique would make a sweet video about it
I have all the JJOS's and they all have their own characteristics.
I’m actually selling my MPC Live in order to grab a 4000. Why in the hell would I do that... because this thing seems like such a beast
ill buy your live, you can have your 4k this week... there all over, i have a man selling one here in memphis right now on craigslist which brought me here. Never knew much about the 4k
@@richardingersoll29 damn bro... I may have to take you up on that. lets talk private
@@seankelly4157 jacobstaton23@gmail.com
@@seankelly4157 there's a guy selling an MPC 4000 for 300$ here on Memphis
Hey new best friend
It's too big and heavy i prefer the X and 5000
Note repeat, having trouble with it
So note repeat is a weird one. It needs the MPC to be playing in order for it to work. Also make sure time correction is on. If time correction is set to 1/16, note repeat will play 1/16 while the sequencer is running. Make sense??
Good looking out chief
@@RickyTinez 2000/2000xl was also like that... akai change it with the 2500/1000!!! i think is weird too!!!!
if this mpc4000 breaks were can u send it to get it fixed?? i mean akai doesnt make them anymore just like the company doesnt make the ASR-10 my mpc3000 went out and its crazy they dont have a company to fix them
