  • We used Home Depot’s Pacific knotty cedar planking tongue and groove on our outdoor patio ceiling. This was pretty easy and one of the more budget friendly options that helped completely transform our outdated patio.

To remove the bottom tongue, I just set my table saw to correctly and ran the boards through. Worked great. Much easier and faster than using the painter's tool.

O.M.G. I never thought of this. I've been working on 12 x 20 remodel for 3 days and only half way finished. This is genius! Thanks!

@@versatilemama2848 I got impatient with that painter's knife and made a guide for my skill saw. Clamped the boards down and ran it right over the edge at a strong 1/8" deep.

Any warping since you've installed this?
I'm just wondering if removing that tongue and groove might make it easier to warp.
I'm lining all of my closets, my pantry, and laundry room in this... it's a little frustrating getting them together sometimes for sure.

Thanks for the video. Are you face nailing or where are you nailing the pieces to the ceiling?

18 gauge brad nails with a brad nail gun, hope that helps!

I used 18 gauge with a nail gun too. Did you all use glue?

Do you think this could be used for flooring in a camper?

Do not do this. Overtime the boards will warp and crack.

Oh no, did this happen to you? We have had zero issues! There are a lot of factors that can play into this, climate/weather, where you place them and how you attach them etc.

Mine warped really bad. Trying to use staples now. I think I installed them too tight. I should have put them with a tiny gap instead of all the way in the groove. It's hard to do though since this stuff is not totally straight and it's nice to rely on the first board that was put in as a straight reference. Not going tight would lead to waviness. The better approach would to spend the extra money on 1/2" or 11/16 thick boards. For now, I'm hoping staples help keep them from pulling through the 18 gauge brad nails I used.
